Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church Stewardship Ministry Catalog Stepping Forward with Grateful Hearts Renewal 2015

Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church 5501 Monticello Road, Shawnee, KS 66226, 913.422.5700 Dear Sacred Heart Family: We are called to be a family of faith in Christ Jesus and by staying connected to each other we can deepen that connectedness and actually feel a part of the parish family, rather than just coming on Sunday to church and remaining on the sidelines. We live in an age of instant communication with email, texting, Facebook and Twitter, but there is nothing like a good old fashion phone call at times to stay connected. This Parish Ministry Directory provides a listing of all our parish ministries under the Four Pillars of Stewardship: Hospitality, Prayer, Formation and Service including the Ministry Lead name(s), phone Number(s) and email(s) for our Ministry Leads. This information will help us to discern how God is calling us to minister to our parish family and the local community by sharing our gifts with one or several of these ministries. This ministering to one another allows us to be connected to each other and to help us in our growth as family. God has placed each one of us in this place and time because He has good things He wants us to accomplish in the world in which we live. We, in imitation of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, are called to express our love by participating actively in the life of this parish family, and the local community, so that we may bear good fruit in His name. With a promise of prayer, Fr. Craig Maxim Pastor

Stewardship as a Way of Life As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God s varied grace. 1Peter 4:10 Stewardship is the response of each individual s call to discipleship, a lifelong way of life, whereby one responds to the mission and ministry of the local and universal Church, sharing the Gospel of the life, death and the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Stewardship recognizes that we, as individuals, are not the owners of our lives, our time, our talent, nor our treasure, but stewards or managers of these God given gifts. Stewardship is our time, talent and treasure given to God in thanksgiving and with increase for all that He has given us. Stewardship invites you to prayerfully consider your relationship with Jesus Christ. Do you set aside time to commit to Him alone? Stewardship invites you to prayerfully consider how you are called to share your talents within various ministries of our parish. How do you serve Him by serving others? Stewardship invites you to prayerfully consider how you are called to share your treasure in proportion to what you have received. Do you tithe by definition which is a 10th part of one s income consecrated to God. In general terms, these guidelines should be followed: 5% to parish offertory for ongoing expenses; 1% to the Archbishop s Call to Share; 4% to the charity of your choice, one of which we hope is the Sacred Heart Berkel Initiative. Stewardship

Parish Councils STEWARDSHIP COUNCIL The primary goal of our Stewardship Council is to help form Disciples in Christ. We recognize that we are all interconnected and dependent upon on each other to ultimately reach His kingdom, as we are all many parts of the one body in Christ. Disciples are formed in an atmosphere that provides hospitality, formation, prayer and service. Our primary role is to help create and maintain this atmosphere, but with the understanding that Christ links discipleship with action. Thus, our secondary role is to invite each parishioner to live Stewardship as a Way of life as they respond with their gifts of time, talent and treasure to Sacred Heart and the community at-large. BERKEL INITIATIVE In February, 2014, Sacred Heart was a beneficiary of a $1.5 million bequest from past parishioner Charles Berkel. This gift went directly toward the reduction of our mortgage debt held by the Archdiocese. After hearing the news of this most generous gift, a few parishioners wanted a way to not only honor Charles Berkel and his act of stewardship, but also a way for our parish to financially match his gift. Thus the Berkel Initiative was born. The Berkel Initiative is an opportunity for each parish family to give a portion of their 4% to assist Sacred Heart in matching the $1.5 million gift. All monies received from this Initiative go directly to paying down our mortgage debt. As a faithful Christian steward, please consider joining our parish family in making a pledge to the Berkel Initiative to help secure a better financial future for our parish. To learn more about this Initiative, please go to: http://shoj.org/berkel.asp FINANCE COUNCIL The Parish Finance Council is established in accord with Canon 537 to advise and assist the pastor in matters pertaining to parish finances and properties. The Finance Council assists the pastor in being good stewards of parish resources by overseeing and planning the financial aspects of our parish resources to spread the Gospel. The pastor appoints the members of Finance Council after consultation with the current council and/ or the Stewardship Council. Members are appointed for a three-year period renewable once. Registered parishioners who wish to be considered for appointment to the Finance Council should contact the pastor.
