FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME ON ENTREPRENEURSHIP AWARENESS AND DEVELOPMENT 22-26 FEBRUARY, 2016 Organized by
INTRODUCTION Entrepreneurship is a key driver of our economy. Wealth and a high majority of jobs are created by small businesses started by entrepreneurially minded individuals, many of whom go on to create big businesses. People exposed to entrepreneurship frequently express that they have more opportunity to exercise creative freedoms, higher self- esteem, and an overall greater sense of control over their own lives. Few until recently believed that entrepreneurs could be created through educational endeavours, or that Entrepreneurship could be a matter of teaching or training. Initially educational interventions in Entrepreneurship were given less importance but after a series of successful demonstrations, it was proved that entrepreneurs could be created through teaching, training and counseling interventions as well. As a result, today s educators believe that fostering a robust entrepreneurial culture will maximize economic and social success on a local, national, and global scale. The need of the hour, therefore, is to make Entrepreneurship Development more effective by imparting relevant education focusing on developing entrepreneurial competencies, skills in identifying a viable business opportunity & preparing business plan, knowledge on how to mobilize resources and manage an enterprise. There is a growing realization that by motivating young technical students to take up an entrepreneurial career, their creative talents can be converted into productive resources. In order to achieve this, it is essential that entrepreneurial values be inculcated in them along with regular academic inputs. The most crucial agents, however, in the process of developing young entrepreneurs are teachers and trainers with adequate knowledge, information and skills in the area of entrepreneurship. It is with this in mind that, Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad will be conducting a Faculty Development Programme in Entrepreneurship Awareness and Development to develop capabilities of teachers on entrepreneurship module and equip them to carry out Entrepreneurship Development activities independently.
