2 Early Childhood Education The first six year of a child s life have been recognized N as the most critical ones for optimal development Early Childhood Education and development (ECED) is an indispensable foundation for lifelong learning and development, as has critical impact on success at primary stage of education Need to universalize preschool education and advocacy Capacity building through hands-on training (Course) for Education and Parents Appropriate qualification and training of care-givers, teachers and educators Inadequate understanding of the concept of ECED, its philosophy and importance among all stakeholders especially parents and educators Addressing quality aspects of ECED has not yet received the required attention, while the focus continues to remain largely on achieving quantitative target figures Creating Model Centers for Demonstrating quality ECED
3 National Context India has million children in the 0-6 year age group (Censes 2011) ECCE services are delivered through public, private and non- governmental channels. Legal context No national policy High need for creating model for demonstrating universalization and quality pre- schooling High need in teachers training in the area of Early Childhood Education (ECE) Creating skilled human resource to work Need to create social entrepreneurship
4 About the Diploma Course The Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Development (ECED) is designed for people who wish to work as preschool teachers in existing preschool or start their preschool. This Diploma Programme aims to help them create awareness about the principles and the best practices in early childhood education and development and enable them to work more effectively. Objectives: To create understanding of the principles behind methods followed at the domain of Early Childhood Education and Development in the candidates. To help them master effectively in teaching- learning skills for teaching the Preschool level children. To generate trained human resource to work in area of early childhood education. To enhance and sharpen the entrepreneurial skills of the teachers Duration One Year (Two Semesters) Eligibility Minimum Age: 18 Year Education requirement: 10 th pass with 2 years practical experience/ 12 standard pass Course Title of the Course Semester- I ECE01 ECE02 ECE03 ECE04 Semester- II ECE05 ECE06 ECE07 ECE08 Concepts and Components of ECED Holistic Development of Children School Readiness Organization and Management of Preschool Centre Understanding National Curriculum Framework and Status of ECE in India Business Skills for Preschool Entrepreneurs Teaching of English of Preschool Project Work
5 Programme Delivery: Our Approach of Programme delivery is more learner- oriented and the learner is an active participant in teaching- learning process. Most of the instructions are imparted through distance education methodology and face to face mode as per the requirement. Programme Delivery Counseling Self-Study Things to do Evaluation Faculty Contact Sessions Residential/Non- Residential Camps Audio & Visual Material Study Material Project & Assignments Practicals, Field Work Continuous Evaluation Final Exams The study material for both theory and practical component of the programme will be provided which would.contain Audio & visual CDs produced by Pratham Counseling Sessions- The faculty and students will meet and interact at predecided periodic counseling sessions to ensure personal attention. Students can clarify their doubts in these sessions, thereby facilitating effective learning Teleconference would be organized during the period of certificate programme according to a pre decided schedule as well as in case of urgent requirement. Practicals/Project work- The main focus of this certificate programme is to provide hands-on training to the learner. Thus, a lot of practical s and project work would be provided Evaluation Continuous Evaluation (Attendance, Projcts, Practicals, Viva) 40% 60% Term End Examination (Written test, Projects, Practicals, Viva) Diploma
6 The candidate will be evaluated broadly through continuous evaluation (CE- 40%) which also includes self evaluation, and Term-End Examination (TEE-60%). The system of evaluation will be different from that of conventional system. This programme will have multitier system of evaluation i.e. self evaluation, continuous evaluation mainly through project & assignment, term-end examination, Practical etc. Instructional Package In order to maintain quality of training uniformly, instructional package and study material developed and made available.
