1-SE1-LE005-08378) Project Information Title: Project Number: Project Type: Year: 2011 Status: Marketing Text: Vocational Education for Decontamination And Sterilization of medical equipment a Northern European program for increased patient safety 2011-1-SE1-LE005-08378 Transfer of Innovation granted SE-Sweden The development of the health care system, globally and nationally has drastically changed over the last decades. The technical part of the work are much more advanced and complicated today and at the same time, the number of Healthcare Acquired Infections ( HAI) are increasing in large numbers each day. Infections acquired in health care settings are among the major causes of death and increased morbidity among hospitalized patients. To formally train health care workers in prevention actions are vital. With this project we have sought to increase patient safety through a sustainable and transparent education for staff working with decontamination and sterilization. By developing a shared framework for education this project will enable mobility and employability in this area of expertise. The project has also sought to enforce the laws and regulations on health and safety for those in the field of training and education of personnel Summary: The aim of the project was to enable a cohesive, post high school, Northern European education for Decontamination and CSSD staff (Central Sterile Supply Dept.)The objective was to establish a mutual syllabus and curriculum for a formal VET for Decontamination and CSSD staff. The consortium consisted of participants from the Sterilization Associations, Infection Control Departments and Educational Organizers in seven countries. Political support for the project was gathered from the Northern Dimension Partnership for Public health and Social wellbeing (NDPHS) and the European Commission of Health & Consumers Directorate. The tangible results of the project also contains the possibility of diffusion to colleagues in other countries, European and globally and by this, work towards an even wider understanding and solution of the situation Apart from the vital work with decontamination and sterilization of medical equipment, a VET qualification in this field also increases the status and will have influence upon the composition of the staff towards a more equalize working environment. Description: Themes: Sectors: Product Types: The seven work package groups were composed, so that they existed of members from different countries in order to transfer experience and skills between each other and with the aim that the outcome should be a good and professional mix from all countries. And since interaction with colleagues from the different northern countries, was a vital element for the attainment of good results, physical meetings were held all through the project. The work conducted was based on a scientific platform and development was seen as a vital factor in progression. *** Utilization and distribution of results *** Quality *** Lifelong learning *** Recognition, transparency, certification *** Equal opportunities ** Labor market ** Intercultural learning ** Sustainability ** Higher education *** Human Health and Social Work Activities *** Education program or curricula website 2

1-SE1-LE005-08378) Project Information Product information: Projecthomepage: The project delegates aimed to create a mutual syllabus, which could be the base for all sterile technician training. It should be transparent in order to enable work across borders and with an equal competence among future staff. The syllabus includes educational modules and methods, tutor criteria, student literature, validation and examination criteria. All document are, so far, in English. As an effect of the project and by having met the objectives the project has created enough momentum for the training to be adapted and made compulsory in our countries. The project came to a closure in Dec. 2013 and the result has been, and still is, spread within, and outside, Europe. The idea of a mutual transparent curriculum has met a vast interest within the bransch. www.vedas.se 3
