Server Hardware System Requirements 3 1. Server Hardware System Requirements Service RAM (GB) Disk (GB) CPU(s) EPC Server 4 20 1 x Dual Core Xeon or analogue MSSQL Server 8 100 1 x Dual Core Xeon or analogue Cognos Server 2 10 1 x Dual Core Xeon or analogue Total: 14 130 Note: A Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) link is recommended between the EPC server and the MSSQL server when they are not co-located. 1.1 Optional Connections to External Systems Connection to a server running Windows 2003, 2008, 2012 Active Directory (via LDAP protocol): It is possible to run the EPC Server on a network without Active Directory. Without a connection to Active Directory, you will not be able to import users. Instead you will have to create them individually using the EPC System Administration interface. Connection to a SMTP server: It is possible to run the EPC Server on a network without a connection to an e-mail server. Without such a connection, EPC password and subscription notification will not be available, and you will be unable to e-mail Discussion Forum messages. EPC Server supports non-authenticated connections or connections authenticated with a basic authentication type to SMTP Server.
EPC Server Software Requirements 4 2. EPC Server Software Requirements 2.1 Compatible Operating System and Relational Database Management Systems Microsoft SQL Server 2005 with the latest Service Pack installed Standard Edition (32bits/64bits) Enterprise Edition (32 bits/64bits) Microsoft Windows Server 2008 (including R2) with the latest Service Pack installed Standard Edition (64bits) Enterprise Edition (64bits) Microsoft SQL Server 2008 (including R2) with the latest Service Pack installed Standard Edition (32bits/64bits) Enterprise Edition (32 bits/64bits) Microsoft Windows Server 2012 (including R2) Standard Edition (64bits) Enterprise Edition (64bits) Microsoft SQL Server 2012 (including R2) Standard Edition (32bits/64bits) Enterprise Edition (32 bits/64bits) NOTE: The following programs must be installed on the EPC Server hosts when MSSQL is not co-located with it. Microsoft SQL Server Native Client Microsoft SQL Server Command Line Query Utility The programs are free downloads and can found at the following locations: For Microsoft SQL Server 2005: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=d09c1d60-a13c-4479-9b91-9e8b9d835cdc&displaylang=en For Microsoft SQL Server 2008: http://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/download/details.aspx?id=6375 2.2 EPC Server host firewall configuration - incoming connections to EPC Server host The following TCP ports must be open for incoming connections on the EPC Server host or the network firewall: For EPC Server: The port set during the Installation of EPC Server (default: 80 or 443 for SSL encrypted traffic)
IBM Cognos Server Requirements 5 3. IBM Cognos Server Requirements Operating system: Windows Server 2008 64 bit (including R2), Windows Server 2012 64 bit (including R2), IIS v 7.X Minimum RAM: 2 GB Disk space: A minimum of 4 GB of free space is required to install the software and 1 GB of free space on the drive that contains the temporary directory used by Cognos components. Web server: IIS Web server must be installed and started. Database: Cognos Content Database can be installed and configured as the default content store database (recommended for testing). For production deployment, use MSSQL database Microsoft SQL Server TCP/IP connectivity to Microsoft SQL Server Database tools installed on Cognos Server host (Cognos Server Host is different from Database Host): MSSQL 2008/2012 Native Client MSSQL 2008/2012 SQLCMD Command Line Utility Web browser: For all web browsers, enable the following: cookies JavaScript For Microsoft Internet Explorer only, enable the following: Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting Active scripting Allow META REFRESH If users want to email reports, they can use a SMTP server. 3.1 Firewall Requirements for incoming connections: The following TCP ports must be open for incoming connections on the Cognos Server host or the network firewall: For IBM Cognos Server: The port set during the configuration of IIS Site for IBM Cognos Server (default: 80 or 443 for SSL encrypted traffic) Note: The port set on IIS server should not conflict with the port set for EPC Server if both are running on the same server host.
EPC Workflow Server Requirements 6 4. EPC Workflow Server Requirements Operating system: Windows Server 2003 (R2) Standard or Enterprise, Windows Server 2008 Standard or Enterprise (including R2), Windows Server 2012 Standard or Enterprise (including R2) Minimum RAM: 2 GB Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Standard or Enterprise Edition SP2 Disk space: Recommended: 20 GB of free space during runtime (at least 1 GB must be available in the /tmp directory) (Please refer the calculation method below) Workflow installation: 200 MB + eform storing space. Log file space: Depends on the number of active users. As a rule of thumb, with the default log level, calculate 5 KB for each user logging in. For example, if 1000 users log in per day, the log file increases by 5 MB per day. eforms space: Depends on the number of process instances instantiated multiplied by total size of eforms used by Process Definition. The total size of the eforms might be bigger per instance if digital signatures are used (every signature will save a copy of the eform inside the pdf itself to retain the pdf form fields at signature point of time). For a medium size process the size of the eform folder for one instance is about 5MB. Database space: As a rule of thumb, 1000 instances of a process definition with 10 nodes require about 5 MB. During Workflow Server runtime, the processing of work items, history entries in the database, etc., require additional space besides the initial database size. This additional space depends on 1) the number of process instances 2) the number of active nodes 3) the number of users who are assigned to work items. System Requirements For example, if you have 1000 instances of a process with 10 nodes, 50% of the nodes require parallel processing (e.g. OR nodes), 10 users are accessing the process instances; you need the following disk space at runtime: 1500 active nodes multiplied with 10 users: 15,000 KB or 15 MB Web browser: Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 (on Windows 7) Microsoft Internet Explorer 8.0, 9.0, 10.0, 11.0 in document compatible mode Quirks or IE7 Others Adobe Flash Player version 19 or newer (for Web based Process Editing) 4.1 Firewall Requirements for incoming connections: The following TCP ports must be open for incoming connections on EPC Workflow Server host or the network firewall: For EPC Workflow Server: The port 49950
