Below document contains tips and pictures for your clothing and styling selection in the modelling category. Attire (Kids) Clothing Children may wear patterns on their tops and bottoms like plaids, stripes, florals, etc. Tops and bottoms may NOT have large emblems, logos or numbers (i.e. Polo logo, football number etc.). No name brands with visible logo (i.e. Abercrombie). Stay logo free (model yourself). NO suits or business wear. Absolutely NO dressy dresses/evening wear! Cocktail, Evening Dresses are NOT allowed: This includes any with sequins, shiny materials, chiffon, sparkles, lace, velvet Nothing Dressy. Casual/Daytime only. See photo examples below for acceptable children s dresses. No tucked in dress shirts, dress pants, ties, khakis, dress shoes, suits or any business attire. Dress casually and age appropriately. Outerwear is acceptable, but may not be taken off (i.e. coat, hat, etc.) If coats or hats are removed, they become carried accessories. Accessories & Shoes Any type of shoes or boots are acceptable. But- NO dress shoes. Ballerina flats, Mary Jane s, Converse, Van or non-athletic flat is recommended. Child models (ages 12 and under) may NOT wear heels higher than 2.5cm. No carry-on accessories are allowed; Examples: purses, sunglasses, umbrellas, etc. Accessories worn when entering the stage may not be removed, as they are then considered carried accessories. Examples: jacket, hat, scarf, etc. Hair & Makeup NO Makeup on children. Translucent powder or Lip Ice (lip balm) only. NO Up do s or pageant hair. Hair should look like an everyday kid style (i.e. braids, pigtails, down & natural). Hair should be simple & unaffected. No visible hair product (i.e. crunchy gel, sprayed prom up do s, stiff sprayed hair, greasy or overly shiny). Remember to keep hair from hanging in face. Natural (up or down) is always best.
Stay Tasteful Child models may NOT curtsy, wink, blow a kiss, salute, wave, etc. in a pre-planned, pageant-like gimmick. Yes, children will do the darndest things. Spontaneous expressions of excitement or emotion can and will happen. However, AMTC does not allow pageant gimmicks. Attire (Females Teen & Adult) Clothing You are allowed ONE item with a print, pattern, multi coloured (i.e. stripes, plaid). Top, Bottom OR Dress (choose 1). The rest should remain solid coloured. NO tube tops. Bottoms may be a skirt, jeans, shorts. Day (NON evening) dresses are ok. Please see photos below of acceptable styles. Note- Belts are NOT considered an accessory. No large or distracting earrings. No bling. Keep your accessories subtle. No hats allowed. No carry-on accessories are allowed; Examples: purses, sunglasses, briefcases, umbrellas, cigars, cigarettes in holders, etc. Accessories worn when entering the stage
may not be removed, as they are then considered carried accessories. Examples: hat, scarf, etc. Any type of shoes, boots, tights, or socks are acceptable. Models should be cautious of strappy or sparkly sandals, as they can make an outfit too dressy. If models choose to wear heels, they should make sure their walk as comfortable and natural. As an alternative, stylish flats or sneakers are the New York City norm. Important- Performers are modelling themselves NOT an outfit & definitely not accessories. Less is more. Stay Tasteful Midriffs & cleavage may not be deliberately shown. Please be conservative. Appropriate undergarments (including bras) must be worn by female teens and adults. White or sheer tops become translucent under the intense lights of the stage. Agents do not want to see skirts or shorts too short. Judges are looking up at a threefoot elevation. Skirts and shorts must be at least 10.2cm below the buttocks. Shorts must completely cover the buttocks no cheeks showing. Agents do not want to see sexy clothing and unanimously dislike it.
