1. Cloud infrastructure challenges faced by carriers To achieve lower TCO and enhance operational efficiency, carriers and enterprises are migrating existing IT infrastructure and applications into virtualized clouds. Besides the TCO savings of the internal IT, carriers are benefiting a lot from the new business opportunities via multi-tenant public cloud. Cloud being adopted in VAS/BSS/OSS systems effectively shortens the service deployment cycle and simplifies infrastructure planning and management. The migration into cloud also creates some key challenges: 1. Commercial and technical challenges for building and managing a distributed, multi-vendor infrastructure Typically, infrastructure is purchased and deployed layer by layer, with different vendors for facilities, for hardware and for virtualization. This allows carriers to avoid the problem of vendor-lock-in, but the resulting mix of vendors creates its own set of challenges. Having multiple vendors for servers, storage, network and security hardware, with various UNIX, Linux and Windows operating systems greatly increases the difficulties in building and delivering a successful cloud platform and services. 2. Smooth migration to cloud data center without impact on existing service Building a new data center based on cloud computing concepts is easy, but converting an existing data center is difficult and prone to errors which can cause service interruptions. It is a key challenge for smooth migration of existing services to a cloud environment without disruptions. 3. Different application scenarios require different infrastructure resources Many carriers provide IT service not only for themselves but also enterprises and end users. Large enterprise, branch offices and SMEs have different demands for infrastructure resources. Different applications, such as daily office use and missioncritical applications also vary in requirements on infrastructure capabilities like storage capacity and performance, network bandwidth, backup and HA solutions. 4. Supporting both fixed access and mobile access challenges cloud services The requirement for access to cloud services anytime, from anywhere is being driven by the popularization of smartphones and tablet, including BYOD devices. Cloud services can bring real value only if users can be effectively and seamlessly connected to the cloud. Ensuring the user experience and service consistency in this type of complicated environment will be a key prerequisite for efficient interaction between users and cloud applications. 1

3. The architecture and the values of Huawei FusionCloud Solution 3.1 FusionSphere: agile and efficient cloud OS compatible with OpenStack Huawei FusionSphere cloud operating system is compatible with de-facto standard OpenStack API, support multi-vendor hardware including server, storage, network and security hardware, integration with third-party virtualization, storage virtualization, network virtualization and security virtualization. In addition to being compatible with OpenStack, Huawei FusionSphere supports more sophisticated features, which are mostly beyond the capabilities of available version of open source OpenStack. These additional features are required by carriers and enterprises for applications demanding higher performance and more reliability. Huawei FusionSphere can significantly enhance scheduling and management efficiency of IT infrastructure with full re-usage of existing data center resources. As part of critical cloud service layer offering, Huawei FusionSphere provides backup and disaster recovery, live migration, flexible resource scheduling across data centers, SLA-based resource scheduling, intelligent bandwidth scheduling, distributed storage and physical resource pools. Huawei FusionSphere can be easily connected to the OpenStack resource management and scheduling framework; making it a perfect solution for cloud transformation of legacy data centers, as well as providing the IT infrastructure for new systems and can be operated seamlessly within the OpenStack compatible architecture. Huawei FusionSphere ensures sustainable development of data centers while avoiding the problem of vendor-lock-in. FusionCompute provides the tuned high- 3

performance and high reliabilities in VM instance provisioning, clustered resource pool management, and intelligent HA/FT scheduling. Huawei FusionManager is responsible for enabling fully automated application image deployment, automated infrastructure provisioning and configuration. With FusionManager carriers can flexibly define VM CPU/Memory size, storage space and performance, L2/L3 network address, network bandwidth and security rules, as well as the network topology and dependency between distributed VM instances. FusionManager is also responsible for collecting OAM FCAPS information from both physical and virtualized resources of Huawei and other mainstream vendors, and provides unified portal for resource health monitoring and timely troubleshooting. Huawei FusionSphere also supports data center level storage virtualization and "storage as a service" capability, which is called FusionStorage, thus enables standalone SAN/NAS storage systems from multiple vendors to be consolidated as a unified logical storage pool. The overall storage space utilization rate is improved dramatically, and the storage migration across different SAN/NAS systems is minimized. FusionNetwork based on SDN architecture is composed of user plane packet forwarding part realized by vswitch software over X86 server platform, and VXLAN gateways for protocol encapsulation and decapsulation within each host. So that the network resource provisioning and configuration of the edge network with direct connection to VMs can be easily orchestrated with deployment of computing, storage and even upper layer applications. Network traffic flow can be easily transferred across multiple data centers. Carriers can reduce network management costs greatly and enabled features like and cross-data center redundancy without manual network configuration for VM migration across data centers. 3.1.1 Cloud service and API layer of FusionSphere Huawei FusionSphere creates a single unified logical resource pool covering the entire physical and virtualized infrastructure. It is capable of constructing an ultra-large-scale logical cloud data center across physically distributed data center sites. It provides optimal data center resource utilization and high energy efficiency by fine-grained, cross-data center resource scheduling and uses SDN-based virtualized network traffic engineering technologies, guaranteeing SLAs for different applications and the lowest TCO for carriers. For performance-sensitive critical applications or applications with special needs for hardware platform RAS features in telecom and enterprise clouds, FusionSphere supports direct scheduling and management of heterogeneous physical resources, and provides related cloud services interfaces for cloud tenants and developers. Service-independent active-active disaster recovery, active-standby disaster recovery and backup are the key requirements to guarantee telecommunications service and critical IT applications. With adequate bandwidth and network QoS, data center disaster recovery can rely on storage snapshot or synchronous host replication function based on Huawei FusionSphere. If a site fails, the recovery site in the pool can immediately take over the workload of the failed site. For geographically separated data center site where adequate bandwidth is not available (usually a transmission distance greater than 100KM), the asynchronous disaster recovery mode and backup mode can be used. Both HA (High Availability) and multi-vcpu FT (Fault Tolerance) can be used to implement an active-standby disaster recovery system. 4

3.1.2 FusionStorage: Software-defined storage systems with innovative scaleout engine greatly improve storage utilization and decouple application deployment with complicated storage configuration Currently, there are a variety of storage systems in the data center; typically the storage systems and the applications are strongly bound; the HDD and SSD drives are not virtualized and are not part of the global resource scheduling. Storage often lacks unified management and has a low utilization rate. Huawei FusionSphere innovatively uses a distributed storage engine FusionStorage to unite internal SSD and HDD drives, along with external heterogeneous SAN / NAS storage systems in a virtualized scale-out storage pool. This pool has unified management and can provide scheduling based on SLA. This software-defined storage system can improve the storage resource utilization significantly and protect the existing storage system investment. Compared to typical data center implementations, FusionStorage can increase utilization by 60%. Huawei FusionStorage supports extensive storage features, including virtual SSD pool, tiered storage, intelligent cache, thin provisioning and deduplication. It automatically links network configuration management, virtual machines and application deployment to create a very large layer 2 network across the data centers. This simplifies application deployment and allows flexible resource scheduling. SDN (Software Defined Network) includes virtual switch, a VSG (Virtual Service Gateway) with virtual firewall and VPN capabilities and a centralized SDN controller cluster. Huawei FusionNetwork can be decoupled from the physical network equipment, supporting L2 ~ L7 network functions, VDC, VM live migration and HA. FusionNetwork can adjust the bandwidth and routing policies of the WAN dynamically based on the upper-layer services' demand. This can provide 60% -70% average bandwidth costs reduction across the data centers. 3.2 FusionCube: superior-performance "cloud in a box" converged infrastructure Rapid deployment and expansion, along with unified management are highest priority concerns of customers who want to quickly build enterprise private and hybrid clouds, from data centers of branch offices all the way up to IT Hosting centers offered by service providers or carriers. To support quickly and efficiently building these platforms, Huawei offers the Huawei FusionCube converged infrastructure, reducing implementation from weeks to hours. Based on a state-of-the-art distributed FusionStorage storage engine, Huawei FusionCube significantly enhances the performance of applications, typically more than four times better price-performance compared to other offerings. Huawei FusionCube is a converged infrastructure which provides a single plug & play hardware package integrating computing, storage and networking. It also includes an integrated software system by implementing the industry's first scale-out computing, storage, network converged architecture, effectively eliminating the bandwidth 6

bottleneck between storage and computing. The result is optimized for IO-sensitive enterprise applications, as well as for high-performance data warehouse scenarios. Huawei FusionCube has also been validated and optimized for 3rd party middleware and applications software. Unified and automatic management, rapid deployment, efficient operation and maintenance are other important highlights of FusionCube. Compared to other converged systems, FusionCube performance is better by a factor of two, is more cost-effective by 4 times and reduces TCO by 50%. Typically, the preinstallation time is just 130 minutes (46% saving compared with other converged systems). 3 rd Party Cloud Product 3 rd Party Cloud Product Unified Operation OpenStack APIs Unified Maintenance FusionSphere FusionSphere 3 rd Party Cloud Product FusionCube FusionCube 10 GE/FC/FCoE/IB GPU/FPGA/DSP Compute Network Storage SSD Accelerator inic Compression Accelerator Hardware Accelerator Figure 5 Huawei FusionCube Converged Infrastructure FusionCube creates a simple, powerful infrastructure and fully supports the OpenStack open APIs and northbound management interfaces. OpenStack elastic computing, object storage, virtual network, security, authentication, billing mode and image management are supported, among others. This support of open interfaces means that there is no vendor-lock-in and FusionCube can be connected to other cloud platforms via standard OpenStack APIs. The converged cloud from different vendors can be managed by a unified cloud OS management system or data center management system which meets with the operational requirements of the carriers. The integrated, modular FusionCube becomes the basic unit of data center one-stop procurement and construction. It is especially suitable for urgent customer demand, with short construction periods, such as for providing IT Hosting services by carriers. Huawei FusionCube converged infrastructure is a compelling choice for new data centers, expansion of existing data centers and even for branch office infrastructure construction. 3.3 FusionAccess: seamless access to cloud services The total number of smart devices in 2016 will reach 10 billion, far more than the number of PC devices. The rise of smartphone, mobile broadband and BYOD has blurred the boundaries between PCs and mobile phones, also blurring the boundaries between personal equipment and business equipment. Many customers now require access to a wide variety of cloud applications dealing with both business and personal affairs through different terminals from anywhere. This is a huge opportunity for both carriers and enterprises. 7

In order to meet the needs of users, they must be provided with not only exceptional access to company resources while at the office, but also the same seamless access wherever they are. Today, "seamless access" is best provided by fixed mobile convergence to cloud-based desktop solutions. Users have access through any form of network pipe to cloud applications anytime from anyplace, and expect to get the required SLA levels. Huawei FusionAccess solution builds high-quality, low-latency intelligent channels between end-users and cloud applications, especially under unstable wireless access environment. So whether it is a desktop PC, notebook or other enterprises fixed terminal, or Smartphone/Tablet, the device can achieve anytime, anywhere access to various types of telecommunications value-added services. They can also access IT desktop applications, other software applications and even BSS/OSS portals of data centers, thus removing the last mile restrictions for end-user consumption of cloud services. Huawei has a full range of ICT product line covering cloud-pipe-terminal. With the deep understanding of carriers, enterprises and customer experience, Huawei provides the leading FusionAccess solution which supports access to cloud applications and service safely and seamlessly anytime, anywhere through any terminal.
