To prevent serious injury: Before using the Power Steering Pump Puller Kit, turn off the vehicle s engine and allow it to completely cool. Also make sure the vehicle s emergency brake is set. Note: For additional information regarding the parts listed in the following pages, refer to the Assembly Diagram near the end of this manual. IMPORTANT: Power steering pulley removal will differ greatly depending on the engine type. Therefore, the following steps give only a general overview on how a power steering pulley is removed, using the Power Steering Pump Pulley Kit. Do not attempt to remove a power steering pulley until you read and understand the instructions as outlined in the vehicle manufacturer s service manual. To Remove A Pulley: 3. 4. Assemble the various parts of the Power Steering Pump Pulley Kit required to remove a pulley from a specific engine. (See Parts List and Assembly Diagram at the end of this manual to determine the proper selection and assembly of parts.) The power steering pulley is attached to the pump shaft with a press fit. Insert the threaded portion of the Jackscrew (2) assembly into the hole of the pump shaft. (See Assy. Diagram.) Once the Jackscrew (2) assembly is in place, slide the two Jaws (8) around the shoulder of the pulley shaft. (See Assy. Diagram.) SKU 66412 For technical questions, please call 1-800-444-3353. Page 4
5. 6. 7. 8. Slide the Steel Sleeve (5) over the two Jaws (8). (See Assy. Diagram.) Hold the lower part of the Jackscrew (2) assembly and screw the upper section into the pulley until you feel resistance. (See Assy. Diagram.) Place a wrench (not included) on the Puller Body (3) and a ratchet (not included) at the top of the Jackscrew (2) assembly. Screw the top portion of the Jackscrew assembly into the lower threaded portion of the Puller Body. As you do, the Jackscrew assembly will slide the pulley off of the pump shaft. (See Assy. Diagram.) Once the pulley has been extracted from the pump, remove the Jackscrew (2) assembly and Puller Body (3) from the pulley. (See Assy. Diagram.) To Install A Pulley: 3. 4. Assemble the various parts of the Power Steering Pump Pulley Kit required to install a pulley on a specific engine. (See Parts List and Assembly Diagram at the end of this manual to determine the proper selection and assembly of parts.) The Bolt portion of the Installer Screw (9, 10) has two different diameters and both are threaded. The threads at the end of the Bolt must match the diameter and thread pitch that is tapped into the pump shaft. (See Assy. Diagram.) To install the pulley, place it on the pump shaft and thread the Installer Screw (9, 10) all the way into the pump shaft. (See Assy. Diagram.) Tighten the Nut on the Installer Body (1) while holding the pulley in place. 5. Doing so will draw the pulley into the pump shaft. (See Assy. Diagram.) Continue tightening the Installer Body (1) until the pulley is flush with the pump shaft. Then remove the Installer Screw (9, 10) and Installer Body (1) from the pulley assembly. (See Assy. Diagram.)
