Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents. b. Do not operate power tools in ex- plosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes. c. Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control. Electrical safety a. Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with grounded power tools. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock. g. When operating a power tool out- doors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock. Personal safety a. Keep proper foot- ing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations. e. Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewelry or long hair can be caught in moving parts. f. Only use safety equipment that has been approved by an appropriate standards agency. Unapproved safety equipment may not provide adequate protection. Eye protection must be ANSI-approved and breathing protection must be NIOSH-approved for the specific hazards in the work area. Power tool use and care Do not force the power tool. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally. d. Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users. e. Maintain power tools. Check for mis- alignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool s operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools. f. Use the power tool in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation. Service a. Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts. 7 To prevent serious injury from accidental operation: Unplug the Pump from its electrical outlet before assembling or making any adjustments to the tool. Note: For additional information regarding the parts listed in the following pages, refer to the Assembly Diagram near the end of this manual Set the Pump on a level, solid foundation in the lowest area of the tank, sump, or receptacle where liquid level is no less than 3 above the suction inlet of the Pump. Never operate the Pump on earth, clay, sand, or gravel surfaces. (See Figure A, next page.) Avoid installation in areas of extreme heat or cold. IMPORTANT: Never suspend the Pump from its Power Cord (1) or discharge hose. You may firmly attach a rope to the Carrying Handle of the Pump. (See Figure A.) Connect a 2 diameter hose (not included) firmly onto the 90 Elbow (32) of the Pump. (See Figure A.) Route the hose to the desired discharge area. The hose should be kept as short as possible with a minimum number of turns. Additional plastic 90 elbows should be used if necessary to prevent hose kinking. NOTE: The maximum delivery height of the Pump is 32 feet. 6. If the hose you install runs in excess of ten feet, it is recommended you use a check valve (not included) to prevent back flow, which could lead to rapid cycling. To avoid air locks in the Pump, drill a 3/16 diameter hole in the hose, between the check valve and the Pump. (See Figure A.) If you choose to assemble and use the Pump in a continuous run mode (without the Float Switch (20) attached) the Pump will turn on immediately when its Power Cord (1) is plugged into a 115 volt, grounded, electrical outlet. To turn off the Pump, unplug its Power Cord from its electrical outlet. Do not allow the Pump to run dry. (See Figure A.) If you choose to assemble and use the Pump in an automatic on/off mode (with the Float Switch (20) attached), the Pump will turn on only when the level of waste water reaches the height - adjustable Float Switch. When the level of waste water drops below the Float Switch, the Pump will automatically shut off. (See Figure A.) Plug the Power Cord (1) of the Pump into the nearest 115 volt outlet fitted with a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) to turn on the unit. (See Figure A.) 10. If running the Pump in the continuous mode, Unplug the Power Cord (1) from its GFCI electrical outlet to turn off the Pump. (See Figure A.) 1 If running the Pump with the Float Switch (20) connected, the Float Switch will automatically turn off the Pump when the level of waste water drops below the Switch. (See Figure A.) Check for loose screws, misalignment or binding of moving parts, cracked or broken parts, damaged electrical wiring, damaged discharge hose, and any other condition that may affect its safe operation. BEFORE EACH USE, Check to make sure the Base (35) is free of dirt, rocks, and debris. (See Assy. Diagram.) Maintenance And Servicing Procedures not specifically explained in this manual must be performed only by a qualified technician. To prevent serious injury from accidental operation: Unplug the Pump from its electrical outlet before performing any inspection, maintenance, or cleaning procedures.
