GENERAL BIOLOGY LAB Course Syllabus Course Code: BIO 102L Course Type: 45 Hours /4 Months (120 Days) A. COURSE DESCRIPTION This General Biology Lab works in conjunction with introductory Biology concepts by providing a series of real world, hands-on experiments. This course requires students to complete at home experiments, track and document results, and submit lab assessments. This course starts with an introduction into science, developing a hypothesis, and presenting data. Lab safety concepts are covered, as well as proper ways to handle emergencies. Other topics covered in this Lab are: cell structure and function, photosynthesis, mitosis, mendelian genetics, population genetics, ecology of organisms, and meiosis. B. METHOD OF INSTRUCTION This course is self-paced, independent study, in an online environment. It takes a lot more discipline than an in person class. You are responsible for scheduling your study time and sticking to it regularly. This course will take approximately 45 hours to complete. Each of your modules consists of lab links, learning activities, assignments, and a module quiz. Your module assignments and quizzes determine your grade in the course. E. GRADING RUBRIC We use a percentage system for grading quizzes. Our module quizzes are not timed and we allow you to take your quizzes a maximum of 3 times. A minimum 70% cumulative score in the course is required to pass the course. This means you can fail a quiz, but still pass the course if you achieve a 70% cumulative score.
