Overview ZAMNET interfaces into Wananchi Telecoms, our upstream provider s network, through a Gigabit Interface to their router housed at ZESCO s Arcades Substation. The Substation is connected via an STM-1 fibre link up to Dar-es-Salaam where three routes to the Internet are available. The routes to the Internet are through EaSSY, SEACOM, and TEAMS on the East coast of Africa. ZAMNET also maintains a link through CEC-Liquid Telecoms for backup and routes through South Africa on SAT-3 and SEACOM marine cables. This provides redundancy and low latency to networks in South Africa.

There is no third party carrier involved to accomplish Internet connectivity. Dial-up Service This is the oldest but persistent service requiring a customer to have a computer, a modem, and a telephone line to set up the Internet connection. Features offered on the dial-up service include extra mailboxes, concurrent logins, and web-mail interface; this provides access to ZAMNET e-mail anywhere in the world. Satellite Internet Service ZAMNET provides Internet services to remote areas, which are outside wireless coverage and where telephone services are either of poor quality or completely not available. The VSAT service is an alternative access solution where ZAMNET is not able to provide service through the existing terrestrial links.
