2. Preface Service Packs and Updates of Third-Party Software Across only supports environments in which the latest service packs and patches are regularly applied. End-of-Support Announcements Please note the end-of-support information in the appendix to this document. 3. Across Language Server 3.1. Preface As an enterprise application, Across can be scaled virtually without any limitation. If necessary, the application server components can be installed on dedicated machines for better performance. Such complex scenarios require special considerations with respect to the infrastructure concept and sizing. The hardware specifications in this document apply to small and medium-size installations. 3.2. Application Server 3.2.1. Hardware Requirements Minimum Recommended RAM 4 GB 8 GB CPU Modern multicore architecture Modern multicore architecture Available hard disk space for Across 25 GB 25 GB Screen resolution 1024x768 pixels 1280x800 pixels or more 3.2.2. Software Requirements Supported Operating Systems, Editions MS Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1: Standard, Enterprise, Datacenter Please make sure to observe the end-of-support information regarding this operating system. MS Windows Small Business Server 2011 is explicitly not supported. MS Windows Server 2012 / MS Windows Server 2012 R2: Standard, Datacenter MS Windows Server 2012 (R2) Foundation and Essentials are explicitly not supported. Version 1.04 Revision: April 29, 2015 4
Configuration The Across Server should be used for Across-related applications only. Especially simultaneous use of the application server as domain controller is not supported. Server roles - Web Server (IIS) with role services: Application Development: ASP.NET 4.5 + all required related role services (checked automatically) Static Content IIS 6 Metabase Compatibility + IIS 6 Management Console IIS Management Console Features -.NET Framework 4.5 ASP.NET 4.5 + all required related role services (checked automatically) - WCF Services HTTP Activation - Message Queuing: Directory Service Integration HTTP Support + all required related role services (checked automatically) Multicasting Support Message Queuing Server Additional Components (If Not Already Included in OS) MS.NET 4.5 (included in the installation packages) - Handling of localization files from other.net versions requires installation of the respective framework. Database Server If a database server is not run on dedicated hardware, all software and hardware requirements apply cumulatively. The storage capacity required for Across databases largely depends on the amount of data you handle with Across and legacy data accumulated over time. Database server settings can also have a certain influence on the space required. The required space may vary from 10 GB to several 100 GB. 3.3.1. Hardware Requirements Minimum Recommended RAM 4 GB 8 GB CPU Modern multicore architecture Modern multicore architecture Screen resolution 1024x768 pixels 1280x800 pixels or more Version 1.04 Revision: April 29, 2015 5
3.3.2. Software Requirements As a matter of principle, the prerequisites and configuration aspects of MS SQL Server must be fulfilled. Supported Database Management Systems, Editions MS SQL Server 2008 / MS SQL Server 2008 R2: Standard, Enterprise, Datacenter Please make sure to observe the end-of-support information regarding these database management systems. MS SQL Server 2012: Standard, Enterprise MS SQL Server 2014: Standard, Enterprise MS SQL Express Edition does not fulfill the performance and database size requirements of production server installations. It can only be used for testing purposes with small volumes. MS SQL databases must not be included in file compression measurements. Doing so will result in inoperability of MS SQL Server. Configuration Shared Components MS SQL Database Engine - MS SQL Server Reporting Services - For Across Data Cube (optional): MS SQL Analysis Services Settings - Mixed mode: enabled - Collation: Latin1_General_CI_AS 3.4. Across crossvpn Proxy Server (Optional) Software requirements are the same as those for the Across Application Server. 3.4.1. Connectivity 5.1. Bandwidth 5.1.1. Server Components The application server and the database server must be able to communicate with each other at gigabit speed or faster. For the connection between crossvpn Proxy and Across Server, 100 Mbit is sufficient. 5.1.2. Client Connections Across Windows clients must be able to communicate with the server components at LAN speeds (100 Mbit or faster). Browser-based clients must be able to communicate with the server environment via broadband connection. 5.2. Special Firewall Configurations From Windows clients to Across Application Server From Windows clients to database server From Across Application Server to database server From Across Application Server to External License Server at Across Systems (https://licenses.across.net) To use the Across Language Server, the various product components must usually be able to communicate with each other through the firewall. The following image illustrates the required firewall rules for a sample installation. The specified ports are the default ports that are predefined by Across. These ports can be changed if necessary. Version 1.04 Revision: April 29, 2015 8
6. Virtualization Across supports the virtualization platforms Microsoft Hyper-V and VMware. Apart from the resources that a host system needs, sufficient CPU capacity, RAM, and storage space need to be allocated to the virtual machine. Due to the virtualization overhead, the performance of Across and MS SQL Server on a virtual machine is usually weaker than on physical hardware. Please note that the migration of a virtual computer to another host is similar to the migration of the Across Language Server to another Server. The migration may render your Customer Product Key invalid. To maintain the validity of you license, deactivate your Customer Product Key before the migration and reactivated it afterwards. Instructions on transferring the Customer Product Key are available in the administrator manual of the Across Language Server. Version 1.04 Revision: April 29, 2015 9
