The Trenton Campus of Mercer County Community College, a modernized educational facility serving as the educational hub for downtown Trenton, encompasses James Kerney Hall, Trenton Hall, and the TC Career Center. Opened in Fall 2012, the new Trenton Hall houses a fashion design sewing laboratory, art and design studio, and Mac PC design laboratory. Placement Testing A placement test measuring English and mathematics skills is a requirement in the MCCC admissions process to determine student eligibility for certain courses and programs. The exam does not affect admission to the college. Completed in approximately two and a half hours, the test includes a timed essay followed by untimed multiple choice questions. Prospective students are encouraged to thoroughly review the sample essays and practice questions found in the placement testing section of the MCCC website. Exemptions from Testing 540 on the SAT critical reading exempts students from the English testing; 530 on the SAT mathematics exempts students from the basic math testing, but qualifies students for college-level math placement testing; 21 on Math ACT and 21 on Reading ACT exempts students from the English and basic math testing and qualifies students for the college-level math placement testing; A degree from an accredited U.S. college or university (transcript required); Evidence (college transcript) of collegelevel English or mathematics courses. All documentation of scores and transcripts should be submitted to the Enrollment Services Office upon application to the college. 25 Paying for Your Education Community colleges charge the lowest tuition and fees of all higher education institutions. Mercer County Community College receives significant support from Mercer County and the State of New Jersey, but courses are not free. Students are required to pay for a portion of their education. To determine the cost of a course, consider tuition and college fees, special course fees, books and supplies. Tuition and Fees Tuition and college fees are calculated on a per-credit basis. The table on page 24 will help you determine how much you owe based upon the total number of credits you are taking and your residency. Besides regular tuition and college charges, some courses carry an additional fee. Books and Supplies Students must purchase their own textbooks and supplies. The Mercer Bookstore (see page 21 for hours and locations, or order online at www.mccc.bkstr.com) guarantees the availability of these for any course offered at MCCC. Costs range from $1 to more than $150, with the average course costing $100. Acceptable methods of payment include cash, credit card, and financial aid (checks not accepted). Textbooks can also be rented; please see website for details. Monthly Payment Plan Students may apply online for interest-free payments. Enrollment for automatic monthly payments is required. Click on Enroll in a plan for the first time (even if you have enrolled in prior terms) Payments Due: A $50 non-refundable fee plus the first payment is due upon enrolling in the payment plan.
