MBA Overview/Description The MBA is designed for professionals aspiring to general or divisional management or chief executive positions. It is for those wanting to transform their careers and be at the forefront of business leadership. This qualification aims to produce graduates who make an impact and add immediate value to an organisation; graduates equipped to lead and manage organisations in the challenging global business environment. The MBA is a practical, hands-on qualification. It draws on your current professional experience and real industry examples. Graduates are equipped with a toolbox of functional management skills, models and techniques that cover the core functions of management. In particular, the MBA provides a link to professional practice, enabling the development of those wanting to gain and apply advanced management skills via the Business Strategy capstone papers and Applied Business Project. Candidates may be required to complete an aptitude test and/or attend an interview. Applicants for whom English is a second language must have an IELTS (academic) score of 6.5 overall and a minimum of 6.0 in each band. Applicants who have completed their tertiary study or work experience overseas may be required to obtain a satisfactory result in the GMAT. Duration The MBA is a 180-point qualification usually completed within 18 months of full-time study, or two to four years of part-time study. You may be able to fast-track and complete the qualification in one year. Each paper involves six weeks of class learning, with one three-hour class per paper per week. This is followed by an examination week, which is then followed by a one-week preparation period for the following term. You may start your study at any one of the six terms as listed in the schedule below. The qualification is designed to accommodate students who choose to work full-time while studying part-time. You may vary the number of papers taken in any given term to fit around your work demands and personal life, provided the qualification is completed within the required time period of four years. MBA papers cover three components The Knowing Component: Facts, frameworks and theories of what we teach The Being Component: Values, attitudes and beliefs that form managers The Doing Component: Skills, capabilities and techniques that lie at the heart of the practice of management Structure To graduate with a MBA, you must successfully complete 180 points, which is made up of core and elective papers. You can choose to specialise in a particular discipline and extend your studies in that field. Progression to the MBA Postgraduate Certificate in Business Administration Students may progress from the Postgraduate Certificate in Business Administration to the Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration by completing a further 60 points of papers.
