CYBER Scholars Application The UMBC Cyber Scholars Program is dedicated to preparing the next generation of cybersecurity professionals in an increasingly digital age while increasing the participation of women and other underrepresented groups in this growing field. Scholars are supported financially and incorporated into a scholars community that includes special on-campus housing, unique courses, mentoring, and the chance to take part in cybersecurity research and internships early in their academic careers. This program is dually housed under the Center for Women in Technology and the Center for Cybersecurity. Read all directions carefully. You will need to send your completed application packet by: January 15 Recommended deadline for incoming freshmen and priority consideration. OR February 14 Recommended deadline for transfer and continuing students. 2. Complete the Cyber Scholars Application. 3. If you have already applied to UMBC, please note this on your Cyber Scholars Application. If you have not applied to UMBC, please complete the UMBC Undergraduate Admission Application no later than January 15. Incoming freshmen should apply to UMBC by November 1 or as soon after as possible. 4. Submit two letters of recommendation. Recommendations should be from a science or technology teacher and one from someone familiar with your academic work and leadership qualities. 5. Cyber Scholars may choose to apply to the Honors College (see the Honors College website at www.umbc.edu/honors for a description of that program). Your decision to apply or not apply for the Honors College will have no effect on your review for the Cyber Scholars Program. Admissions decisions for the Honors College are determined by a separate committee. For consideration, applicants should have a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale in a strong college preparatory curriculum that includes honors, Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate coursework.
