Demonstration Exploring Power View 11
Exploring PowerPivot 2012 PowerPivot empowers end users to create self-service BI solutions in Excel 2010 Facilitates the sharing and collaboration of PowerPivot solutions in SharePoint Server 2010 These capabilities are achieved by two add-ins: SQL Server PowerPivot for Excel Add-in SQL Server PowerPivot for SharePoint Add-in The Excel add-in is available for download from Microsoft at no cost New modeling and designer features, and new DAX functions that build upon the SQL Server 2008 R2 offering will be available in the next release 12
New Modeling Features New features include: Diagram view Calculation area Active/inactive relationships Marking date tables and columns Sorting a column by a different column Multi-level hierarchies Binary columns (useful for images) DistinctCount measure aggregation Column and measure format properties Table, column and measure descriptions Key Performance Indicators Perspectives Reporting properties 13
New Designer Features The new PowerPivot Window includes: Diagram View Calculation Area Advanced Mode o Configure Perspectives o Configure Reporting Properties 14
New DAX Functions 41 new functions have been added to extend DAX s usefulness: Filter functions o HASONEVALUE(), USERELATIONSHIP() Information functions o LOOKUPVALUE() Parent-child functions o PATH(), PATHITEM() Logical functions o SWITCH() Statistical functions o DISTINCTCOUNT(), RANKX(), TOPN(), and Standard Deviation and Variance functions 15
Demonstration Creating a PowerPivot Workbook 1. Importing Data and Creating Relationships 2. Enhancing the Model Interface 3. Defining Measures and a KPI 4. Defining a Perspective 5. Analyzing the Model in the Excel Workbook 6. Publishing the Model 7. Optimizing the Model for Power View 16
