DS1006 Processor Board with 2.6 GHz Processor Clock Valid for DS1006 (2.6 GHz) in conjunction with dspace Release 4.2 New Features These new features are not reflected in the dspace documentation up to dspace Release 4.2: The clock rate of the processor has been increased to 2.6 GHz. The local memory has been upgraded to DDR-400 SDRAM modules. Processor Upgrade DS1006 boards with a 2.2 GHz processor can be upgraded with the new 2.6 GHz processor by dspace. Note that the local memory is not upgraded in this case. Contact dspace (local representative) to inquire about price and have the upgrade done. Compatibility with dspace Releases The DS1006 (2.6 GHz) is fully compatible with dspace Release 4.2 and later. If you want to use the DS1006 (2.6 GHz) in conjunction with dspace Release 4.1, contact support@dspace.de for compatibility information. Compatibility with 2.2 GHz Boards Using dspace Release 4.2 or later: Programs or models that were prepared and compiled for the DS1006 (2.2 GHz) do not need to be recompiled for the DS1006 (2.6 GHz). Programs or models that were prepared and compiled for the DS1006 (2.6 GHz) run on 2.2 GHz boards without changes. Applications that exploit the complete computing power of the DS1006 (2.6 GHz) cause an overrun situation on 2.2 GHz boards. ds

DS1006 Processor Board with 2.6 GHz Processor Clock Installation Notes Before you install the DS1006 (2.6 GHz) in your expansion box, you have to install a software patch. The patch contains the necessary boot firmware (Version 1.2.1) for the DS1006 (2.6 GHz). No damage is caused by using the patch in combination with a 2.2 GHz board. You will find the patch on two disks which come with the board and on the dspace Web site (www.dspace.de/goto?ds1006-2.6ghz). Preconditions dspace Release 4.2 must be installed on your host PC. The dspace installation which you want to patch must be active. If there is more than one dspace installation on your host PC, it may be necessary to activate the desired one. For details, refer to Managing Installations With the dspace Installation Manager in the Software Installation and Management Guide. N Possible Methods The software patch patches only the active installation. There are two ways to install the patch, depending on the medium you use: If you want to install the patch from the floppy disk, refer to Method 1. If you want to install the patch from the dspace Web site, refer to Method 2. Method 1 To install the required patch from the floppy disk: 1 Insert disk 1 into the floppy-disk drive. 2 Choose the floppy-disk drive and run setup.exe. 3 Follow the instructions given by the installation program. Method 2 To install the required patch from the dspace Web site: 1 Go to http://www.dspace.de/goto?ds1006-2.6ghz. 2 Click Download. 3 Start the installation program. 4 Follow the instructions given by the installation program. 2

To use the DS1006 with a second/further dspace installation on the same PC, you have to repeat the installation procedure after activating the desired installation. 3

DS1006 Processor Board with 2.6 GHz Processor Clock DS1006 Data Sheet The following table shows the complete data sheet of the new DS1006 Processor Board with 2.6 GHz processor clock. Changes to 2.2 GHz boards are in bold print. Program execution is interrupted and the processor is set to power save mode. Note: Only operating in the stated ambient temperature range ensures that the board works correctly. Memory 256 MB DDR-400 SDRAM local memory for the application and dynamic application data 128 MB SDRAM global memory for host data exchange 2 MB on-board boot flash memory Application flash memory on CompactFlash card (accessable via ControlDesk). The capacity depends on the card. Timer 3 general-purpose timers Synchronous Time Base Unit (STBU) for multiprocessor systems Interrupt controller Interrupt controller for handling 20 different interrupt sources of the DS1006 devices CompactFlash card It is recommended to use specially prepared CompactFlash cards provided by dspace for compliance with EMC specifications (SanDisk SDCFB-128-101-00 with special shield applied and preformatted). If you use your own CompactFlash card, note the following points: A SanDisk SDCFB-128-101-00 CompactFlash card is recommended. The CompactFlash card must be DOS-formatted (FAT16) before use. Serial interface RS232 interface with standard UART allowing transfer rates of up to 115.2 kbaud 4

This change does not affect the board revision number. 2) The PX10/PX20 Expansion Boxes need special power supplies and connectors to support a DS1006-based modular system.
