Telfer students Ajay Bhalla (MBA 2008) and Rachel Kubacki (MBA 2008)

It starts here: the Telfer MBA at the University of Ottawa As a manager focused on creating value and generating results, you want management training that reflects your commitment to performance. As a rising executive, you want knowledge and skills that enable you to accelerate your career. As an ambitious professional eager to assume a leadership position in a high-performance organization, you want the Telfer MBA. Why the Telfer School of Management The Telfer MBA is a flagship program of the Telfer School of Management. Located in Canada s capital where the country s most powerful political and business forces converge the Telfer School is a rich learning environment that provides students with the leadership training and global perspective required to excel in the changing and competitive worlds of business, technology, healthcare, government and industry associations. One of only three business schools in Canada accredited by both the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business and the Association of MBAs, the Telfer School is recognized by The Princeton Review as one of the world s best 290 business schools and has been ranked by the Financial Times as a top 150 business school for the last three years. The Telfer MBA for leaders of high performance organizations At the Telfer School, we believe that an MBA education should prepare managers and leaders to focus on results, value and outcomes with discipline and adaptability. To that end, we offer an intensive and integrated program that features small classes, high interaction and peer learning all conducted in world-class facilities. All business schools face the challenge of integrating curriculum in a way that is relevant and practical. We believe that leadership of high-performance organizations provides us with an integration theme that has several unique advantages. This theme: works well to advance the careers of our graduates; goes to the heart of strategic leadership and creating value and results a leading-edge way of dealing with complexity and ensuring organizational focus; ensures students gain hands-on, practical and transferable skills through the use and support of specific tools and applications; and applies to all sectors and industries and is therefore highly relevant to all students. The theme of performance management is also reflected in the Performance Management Fundamentals course, the Applied Performance Management course (new in 2008), related integrative casework in key courses such as Marketing and Accounting, and the International Trip. In addition, the Telfer MBA provides you with opportunities to work directly with business-intelligence software and closely examine methods and processes used by organizations to create integrated performance-management systems.

Components of the Telfer MBA MBA core curriculum The Telfer MBA s integrated curriculum helps position you to lead people, take charge of organizations, allocate resources effectively and articulate strategic vision fundamental skills of high-performance managers. Organized in six-week blocks, the curriculum covers the fundamental skills needed by leaders to achieve high performance in any industry or sector. The program kicks off with an intensive orientation period that focuses on team building and The World of the General Manager course. This course puts students in the position of a general manager who must set strategic direction, motivate personnel, allocate resources and integrate various parts of an organization in the face of uncertainty. Performance Management is the integrative platform for a substantial portion of the core curriculum. Casework that integrates Performance Management across core courses, such as Strategic Marketing Management, Operations Management, and Managerial Accounting for Information and Decisions, ensures the development of transferable skills and critical thinking. Consulting project Students learn and apply best practices in management consulting by working with executives of local organizations and tackling problems faced by these professionals. Conducted under the supervision of Telfer School professors and the mentorship of professionally certified members of the Canadian Association of Management Consultants (CAMC), the consulting project is a unique opportunity for students to tackle real-life business challenges. It also accelerates professional accreditation with the CAMC. International trip Students gain a global perspective of the changing face of international management via a mandatory trip to a key international business centre. In 2008, for example, the one-week international trip is entitled Doing Business in Europe for High-Performance Firms and is hosted by the Vlerick Leuven Gent Management School in Belgium. Electives Telfer MBA participants customize the remainder of their programs by choosing electives that suit individual interests and career goals specializations such as marketing, finance, entrepreneurship, public policy and international management.
