Overview - The Retail Blade from DigiPoS Systems The first truly migrate-able Hardware Solution based on Sever Blade Technology The Retail Blade from DigiPoS Systems Inc, is based on server blade technology. DigiPoS has integrated this technology in a patented design to produce the first truly scalable and migrate-able hardware platform for mission critical applications such as point-of-sale and in-store servers. The use of Blade technology has proven results in producing significant reductions in the total cost of ownership while optimizing the return on capital invested. The Retail Blade delivers superior flexibility and migration path options that allow configurations to be easily changed without significant reinvestment in hardware or related implementation services. Upgrading a system, as well as replacement of failed components, is simply performed by exchanging the Retail Blade (motherboard), which can be performed by non-technical store personnel in virtually minutes and without any tools. A passive back plane incorporated in the Retail Blade Host (enclosure) allows peripherals and networking to remain connected during the upgrade process, reducing implementation time, cost and labor. The Retail Blade also includes a secure but easily accessible swappable hard drive that further simplifies system upgrade or replacement in the event of failure. Retail Blade Host Retail Blade The simplicity and ease of replacement of the Retail Blade technology presents unique serviceability options. DigiPoS also markets a First Aid kit that includes a replacement Retail Blade, hard drive and external power supply for the Retail Blade Host. The First Aid kit provides retailers with the option to swap out failed components when they occur and restore service quickly, eliminating wait time for the technician to arrive. Blade Exchange The Blade contains a liquid cooled chip set, which improves performance and reliability by preventing internal heat build up - a major cause of system failure. A wide variety of interface options are available to optimize system connectivity. Four serial ports and four powered USB 2.0 ports supply electrical power to connected peripheral devices eliminating the need for individual power supplies to reduce cost and cabling issues. Additional system

connectivity is supported by another two USB ports, plus parallel, cash drawer, keyboard and mouse ports as well as an integrated 100/1000 Ethernet LAN port. The Retail Blade is based on industry standards to ensure compatibility with virtually any operating system and support open standards for point-of-sale such as OPOS, JPOS, Windows and Linux. The Retail Blade includes a three year warranty and the Blade Host includes an unprecedented 10-year warranty. The Retail Blade prevents premature technology obsolescence extending the life cycle and use of system hardware. Migrating to new technologies has never been easier or more cost-effective, states Mark Leaper, President of DigiPoS Systems. With the Retail Blade upgrading hardware is as simple as sliding out today s technology and replacing it with the next generation at a fraction of the cost required to upgrade systems today. It produces quantifiable hard savings that will far exceed other alternatives. Robert Marano of the Advance Technology Group at PricewaterhouseCoopers supports this perspective by adding, In retail, it s all about getting more for less. Retail Blade genuinely represents the kind of thinking that drives cost of ownership down while extending the life of user s hardware investments. It s about time that clients got more options, more flexibility and the benefits of blade technology that reach beyond the data center.

In a market dominated by general computer manufacturers and PC brands, DigiPoS Retail Blade represents a retail-driven design that sets an entirely new standard in electronic point of sale systems. Small Footprint: Fast Swap Hard Disk Drive: Cable Management: External Power Supply: 4-Stage Cooling System: With retail space at a premium, it is increasingly important that available space be used to its full potential. The Retail Blade systems enable retailers to deploy a retail purpose built open platform that requires a minimum of space. At 11" x 13" x 5", the DigiPoS system is ideal for freeing up under counter space. The system hard drive is typically the second most common failure point in a POS system. To ease the replacement or upgrade of the existing hard disk, they have been mounted on a removable tray to facilitate fast and easy replaced. Powered serial ports eliminate the need for external power supplies. Taking it a step further, DigiPoS Systems has created cable sets that allow for more reduction in cabling and better identification of the cables that are required. For example, a typical receipt printer requires a power cable, an interface cable and a cash drawer kick cable. DigiPoS Systems has developed a single cable that houses all three functions. Removing the power supply from the system lowers the operating temperature of the processor and increases lifespan. In the event of failure, the supply can be replaced without opening the system. A positive locking mechanism on the connector prevents accidental business interruption. In addition by removing the power supply from the system chassis, the size of the processor is significantly smaller. It is a fact that Pentium 4 processors run hot, and if not properly cooled, the core temperature can result in damage to the CPU. The Retail Blade has a dual (push-pull) 4- stage fan mechanism that controls the speed based upon the CPU temperature. Under normal conditions the fan will operate at 25% of rated speed to minimize noise and maintain system temperatures. The temperature and fan speed are indicated on LEDS on the front panel.

1 866 847 2767 www.digipos-systems.com DigiPoS Retail Blade Purpose-built Retail POS Technology Diagnostics Year Warranty Liquid Cooled Chipsets: Intelligent Power Management: Fuse Matrix: DigiPoS Diagnostics: 3-Year and 10-year Warranty: Manufacturing Life-Cycle: In creating a retail specific terminal, it is extremely important to understand the possible environments where the unit will be required to function. POS base units are often installed in poorly ventilated areas or have otherwise obstructed airflow to and from the unit. This fact, along with the increased heat generated by newer CPU chipsets can produce overheating problems with standard PC cooling technology. DigiPoS' unique liquid cooling technology radiates heat away from the CPU and graphics chipsets, keeping them far cooler than a traditional cooling fan approach. The main drawback of using a standard PC / Cash drawer configuration is that each peripheral device requires its own external power supply. The Retail Blade systems provide four powered serial ports and four powered USB that allow power to be provided to each connected device through the existing interface cable. This feature eliminates the need for multiple individual power supplies and cuts the number of cables at the point of sale in half. This provides a more efficient configuration it will result better reliability by eliminating many cables and power supplies. Power spikes, brownouts and static electricity are all unavoidable hazards. The consequences of power related problems on computer equipment are significant and sometimes costly since inevitably it is the motherboard that is affected by the event. The Retail Blade system employ a bank of poly fuses built into the board to minimize the impact of such events. Should a power surge or static discharge hit the DigiPoS, one of the internal fuses will blow before damage to the motherboard or other internal circuitry can occur. The poly fuse will then automatically reset. Embedded on the compact flash drive is a diagnostic utility that will provide significant information about the Retail Blade base unit and peripheral devices. Because it boots directly from the Compact Flash, this utility can eliminate software/hardware finger pointing by determining if a peripheral device is operating properly external to the application and operating system. In addition, this feature is extremely useful for improving service levels and depot repairs because it allows the right component or part to arrive at the store after a simple phone call. Confidence in the DigiPoS product and its ability to withstand the unique challenges of the retail environment has allowed DigiPoS Systems to offer a warranty package that is second to none in the industry. Each DigiPoS system (base unit and at least 3 other peripheral devices) ships with a standard 3- year return to depot warranty. In addition, the Retail Blade Host system comes with a standard 10-year depot warranty. Our components are selected to ensure that our clients receive consistent hardware, that over time will reduce administrative and maintenance cost that are associated with changing hardware and BIOS revisions. Using the extended availability Intel 865GV Embedded Chip set as a part of our design ensure you can roll out the same hardware today and 5 years from today.. Available in Pentium 4 and Celeron models ranging from 2.0GHz to 2.8GHz we offer state of the art scalability.
