iopac I/O Starter Kit Hardware Usage Guide First Edition, February 2014 2014 Moxa Inc. All rights reserved. P/N: 18020000000B0

Overview The iopac I/O Starter Kit (IOSK) is used for simulating different types of industrial input and output signals. Using this starter kit, you may generate test signals for iopac products and better familiarize yourself with I/O, wiring, deployment and troubleshooting. The iopac I/O Starter Kit Control Panel A H G B C D E F A Power connector, mini USB & terminal block E Digital output, locking push switch for PNP (source) or NPN (sink) output B Analog output, variable resistor F Digital input, LED indicator C Analog input, LED indicator G Box header D Digital output, push button sink/pulse H Terminal block output Powering Up the iopac I/O Starter Kit There are two ways of powering the starter kit; via: 1. a 2-wire terminal, 9 to 36 volts DC 2. a Mini USB Cable, 5 volts DC 2 1 2 Wire Terminal 1. The terminal accepts a 9 to 36 volt DC power supply. Wiring is shown at right. Mini USB Connector You may also use a 5V adapter or PC with a mini USB connector to power the starter kit. Powering up the iopac I/O Starter Kit To turn on the starter kit, use the ON/OFF switch shown in region A of the iopac I/O Starter Kit Control Panel diagram, above. The LED will light up to indicate when the demo kit is powered up. Using the Starter Kit to Simulate I/O Signals Analog Output At right, you see the analog output section of the starter kit, labeled B in the iopac I/O Starter Kit Control Panel diagram, above. There are 4 different types of analog output you can simulate shown in the diagram on the console, just above the DIP switches. Toggle the switches to set the desired output; upwards is ON, downwards is OFF. To decrease the output signal, turn the associated knob to the left; to increase it, turn it right. Analog Input At right, you see the analog input section of the starter kit, labeled C in the iopac I/O Starter Kit Control Panel diagram, above. You can simulate 2 different types of analog input. To select the type of input you need, simply set the appropriate DIP switch to OFF (down) or ON (up), according to the table shown just above the output selector. The LED will indicate how much output the device is transmitting. Digital Output, Sink/Pulse At right, outlined in red, you see the digital output section of the starter kit, labeled D in the iopac I/O Starter Kit Control Panel diagram, above. In total, the starter kit has 4 digital output simulation channels. The section highlighted at right (DO_0 & DO_1) provides pushbuttons to simulate sink and pulse outputs. Set the DIP switches for the associated channel for either sink or pulse, as shown in the table labeled DO mode. NOTE Pulse output delivers a 6.74Hz signal. - 3 -

Digital Output, PNP/NPN At right, outlined in red, you see the digital output section of the starter kit, labeled E in the iopac I/O Starter Kit Control Panel diagram, above. DO_2 delivers a PNP (source) sensor s output DO_3 delivers an NPN (sink) output The output channels are OFF when the toggle is not depressed. Digital Input At right you see the digital input section of the starter kit, labeled F in the iopac I/O Starter Kit Control Panel diagram, above. The starter kit provides 4 channels of simulated digital input. You may set the input channels for source or sink using the DIP switches located just above the input LEDs. These settings indicate the type of output module being connected. Each DIP switch controls two digital inputs. You should take care you connect your device to the correct channel. When the source input is triggered, the red LED will light up. When the sink input is triggered, the green LED will light up. Refer to the table (shown at right) just above the DIP switches to see how to set the input channels for sink or source types. I/O Wiring Terminal: At right, you see the wiring terminal for the starter kit, labeled G in the iopac I/O Starter Kit Control Panel diagram, above. This terminal is where you connect I/O modules to the starter kit. Each hole is labeled with the appropriate input/output information. For instance, is the negative terminal lead for analog input 1, while is the positive terminal lead for analog input 1. ATTENTION For more detailed explanations of how the iopac I/O Starter Kit may be used including hands-on examples you may download the I/O Starter Kit Hands-On package, at this link: https://moxaftp.box.com/s/b7iljitxi4bzzbudg5f7-4 -

Connecting I/O Modules to the Starter Kit NOTE +V: 10V output : the ground for the voltage output (+V) Generating Digital Output for Digital Input Modules RM-1602-T (iopac 8020) Because the RM-1602-T does not support dry contact outputs, DO_0 & DO_1 cannot be used. iopac 5542 Dry contact: Device DI0 to term DO_0, device GND to term 0V(GND) NPN Output: Device DI0 to terminal DO_3, device COM0 to terminal +V, device GND to terminal 0V(GND) PNP Output: Device DI0 to terminal DO_2, device COM0 & GND to terminal 0V(GND) Dry Contact PNP NPN RM-2600-T (iopac 8020) and 85M-2600-T (iopac 8500) Since both the RM-2600-T (iopac 8020) and 85M-2600-T (iopac 8500) are sink-type outputs, set the DIP switch to DI SINK position. The green LED should light up whenever the module sends an output (ON) signal. Wiring RM-2600-T Output: Device DO0 to terminal DI_0, device GND to terminal 0V(GND) 85M-2600-T Output: Device DO0 to terminal DI_0, device GND to terminal 0V(GND) iopac 8020 RM-2600-T iopac 8500 85M-2600-T - 6 -

iopac 5542 Output First, configure the digital I/O channel to carry DO. Then, wire the output as shown at right: Device DIO-0 to terminal DI_0, device GND to terminal 0V (GND). Generating Analog Output for Analog Input Modules Wiring Output for Current Mode To set the starter kit s analog outputs for current mode, turn the DIP switch to the position shown at right. Wiring & Relevant Modules For all modules across all iopac models, the wiring setup for analog output generation is the same: iopac 5542 RM-3802-T (iopac 8020), 85M-3800 (iopac 8500) 85M-3801-T (iopac 8500) For all models, to connect analog output from the starter kit to analog input on the device, wire the device AI0+ to terminal AO_0+, and device AI0- to terminal AO_0- This wiring schematic may be used on the following modules: iopac 8020 RM-3802-T (4 to 20mA) iopac 8500 85M-3800-T iopac 8500 85M-3801-T (40KHz) iopac 5542-7 -

Wiring Output for Voltage Mode To set the analog outputs for voltage mode, first turn the DIP switch to following position. Wiring & Relevant Modules For all modules across all iopac models, the wiring setup for analog output generation is the same: iopac 5542 RM-3810 (iopac 8020), 85M-3810-T (iopac 8500) 85M-3811-T (iopac 8500) For all models, to connect analog output from the starter kit to analog input on the device, wire the device AI0+ to terminal AO_0+, and device AI0- to terminal AO_0- Full Wiring Instructions for iopac 8020 Modules The iopac 8020 only supports sinking digital output.
