ACCEPTING Georgian s OFFER of Admission How do I accept my offer of Admission? You may view and accept your offers of admission online at ontariocolleges.ca. What is the deadline? The deadline is specified in your acceptance letter and is also available online at ontariocolleges.ca. What if I change my mind? You may accept only one offer of admission at a time. After you have accepted an offer, you may change your decision and accept a different offer after one business day. This action will cancel the previous acceptance and other colleges will be informed that you chose Georgian College. What if I applied by telephone? Please call the ontariocolleges.ca Customer Contact Centre at 1.888.892-2228 (toll free within Canada) or 519.763.4725 to accept your offer by phone. When you call ontariocolleges.ca, you will need your: Offer of admission from Georgian College OCAS application number The acceptance deadline will still apply, so be sure to call as soon as possible to avoid busy phone lines. What if I received a conditional acceptance? If your offer is conditional, you must ensure that all outstanding requirements are met prior to the start of classes. Possible requirements include: passing your courses, maintaining your course grades, maintaining your GPA, completing your high school diploma (if under 19 years of age), and graduating from college/university if you applied to graduate certificate programs. Please check the web self-service for all outstanding conditions at http://sis.georgianc.on.ca. What if I need help? Help is available online at ontariocolleges.ca or you can call the ontariocolleges.ca Customer Contact Centre at 1.888.892.2228 (toll free within Canada) or 519.763.4725. You can also call your Admissions Officer at Georgian College, whose contact information is on your offer letter. You can also receive instructions on how to accept your offer online at ontariocolleges.ca. Important notes about deadlines Check to ensure you can log in to ontariocolleges.ca. Do this prior to the acceptance deadline to avoid delays. Be sure to accept by the deadlines indicated at ontariocolleges.ca. You may accept only one offer of admission at a time. If you change your program choice, you may do so after one business day. Once you ve accepted the offer, a confirmation page will be displayed at ontariocolleges.ca. Your acceptance to our offer will be sent to Georgian College the next business day. You will not be able to see the acceptance on the college s website until the following business day. Still have questions? Please feel free to contact your Admissions Officer via email Monday to Friday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. You were provided with their contact information when you applied and it is included in your acceptance letter. COLLEGE computer access/accounts College computer account A computer account is created for all full-time and part-time students. Any time you use a computer on campus, you must log in using this account. Your username for your computer and email account is your Georgian student number The initial password is your birth date (YYMMDD). Blackboard is an application that allows students to participate in courses in an online environment. Through Blackboard, students can view course documents, assignments, communicate with other students and faculty and participate in online discussions, provided they have access to an internet connection and an internet browser. Have questions? For further information regarding the student email system and other system logins: Blackboard, Perfect Copy, Dell Learning System, Webdesign2, Print Credits, etc, please go to georgiancollege.ca/current and follow the links. Your computer and email accounts are a privilege. Please refer to the Information Technology Acceptable Use Procedure at georgianc.on.ca/it/2-117-acceptable-use.php. Your computer account expires shortly after your course/program ends. College alerts: Georgian text messaging Georgian has acquired software that can send text messages to your cell phone. Once you ve confirmed your offer, you will be able to register for this feature. This will ensure that the college can get a message to you in case of emergency situations or to advise you of other important announcements from college departments. THE IMPORTANCE OF Email Email is the primary method of communication between you and Georgian College, so please ensure that the email address you provide is active and that you check your email account often. Once registered: Your college email and login procedures All students are assigned a Georgian email address upon course registration. After registering, the email address assigned to a student is the only email address used by Georgian College and the University Partnership Centre for communicating with students for academic and administrative purposes. Students are responsible for checking their email account regularly in order to receive current administrative and academic notifications. It is the student s responsibility to ensure that time-critical email is accessed, read and acted upon in a timely fashion. Please follow the instructions listed below for proper computer and email set-up and access. College student email account Microsoft Outlook is the official student email system. You can access Outlook through a web browser both on and off campus. Microsoft Internet Explorer (version 8.0 or higher) is preferred, but Firefox and Safari also work. Set your browser to georgiancollege.ca/current and click the student mail link. georgiancollege.ca/current 4

GETTING FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE What is the Financial Aid office? We recognize that postsecondary education is an investment in your future and that paying for your education can be costly, stressful and can lead to less time spent on your studies. Your success matters to us. We offer a variety of services to help you meet your financial responsibilities, including information about financial assistance, bursaries and budget. What can I do to prepare for the cost of my education? Saving for your education is your key to success. How you fund your education is a decision that needs to be made early. The more money you can save for your education, the less debt you will face after graduation. Some options include: Financial institution/bank loan. If you are applying for a private student line of credit at a bank or financial institution, different rules and procedures may apply. Check with your bank or financial institution for their procedures and deadlines. OSAP Summer employment or part-time jobs Scholarships and bursaries (refer to page 15) As a contingency, plan to have sufficient funds available to you for the first two weeks of classes if you are relying on student assistance programs. What is the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP)? Need help paying for school? Check out the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP). OSAP provides assistance through loans and grants based on your calculated financial need. The purpose of OSAP is to supplement, not to replace, the financial resources the student is expected to contribute. For complete OSAP information and application, please visit www.osap.gov.on.ca Step 1: Apply online for OSAP (www.osap.gov.on.ca) Full-time students You will need your Ontario Access Number (OAN) and OSAP password to access the application. If you are a new user, you will need to register to get your OAN and create a password. If you have lost or forgotten your OAN or password, take your social insurance card (SIN) and government-issued photo identification to a Financial Aid office at any postsecondary institution in Ontario with OSAP access to have your password reset. Georgian College campuses that offer this service are Barrie, Orillia and Owen Sound. We recommend that you complete your online application and submit all necessary documents a minimum of eight weeks prior to your start date. Application deadlines can be found on the OSAP website. Step 2: Submit your MSFAA The application requires you to print, complete and sign a Master Student Financial Assistance Agreement (MSFAA). You must print, complete and sign the MSFAA, and take it to a designated Canada Post Outlet. You will need to present your SIN card and Canadian government-issued photo ID or other acceptable ID when you do so. Step 3: Monitor and follow through After you submit your application and your MSFAA to a designated Canada Post Outlet, it is important to check your status through the OSAP website. Once you see confirmation of enrolment, your file is complete. Step 4: Getting your funding The Financial Aid office will electronically confirm that you are enrolled as a full time student. The earliest your enrolment can be confirmed is the start of the study period (i.e., first day of classes). It is your responsibility to ensure that by this time, you have fully registered in your courses for your study period. Refer to page 6 for information on the registration process. Once your application has been fully processed, and the school has confirmed that you are registered into your full-time courses, your funding can be released by the National Student Loans Service Centre. The funding release date can be found on your online OSAP account. The earliest date for release is generally the first day of your study period. Please note that it may take seven to 10 business days from the release date before the funds are in your bank account. Do I need to make a fee payment for my program if I have applied for OSAP? Yes! Please refer to page 7 of this booklet for fee deferral and payment deadline information. georgiancollege.ca/financial osap.gov.on.ca 5

GETTING FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE (cont d) 6 The OSAP application gives you the option to allow the Ministry to use a portion of your OSAP funding to pay your account balance, including tuition and compulsory fees, on your behalf. Remember, this is done after your initial deposit is made. Whether or not you choose this option, it remains your responsibility to monitor your student account to ensure that all fees owing are received by the payment deadline date. What is the 30% Off Ontario Tuition Grant? The 30 % Off Ontario Tuition Grant is a grant to help make postsecondary education more affordable for full-time undergraduate university and college students. For more information and how to apply, please visit www.ontario.ca/30off. Please note: OSAP applicants do not need to submit a separate OTG application. GETTING MY TIMETABLE, BOOKLIST AND STUDENT CARD How do I get my timetable? Once you have paid your fees, here are your next steps: Four weeks prior to classes starting, check your date and time to register. Go to sis.georgianc.on.ca and select Login to Banner. Select Registration from the menu and then Registration status. Not all programs register on the same day. On your program s registration day and time, go to sis.georgianc.on.ca and select Login to Banner. Select Registration and then Register for courses. Follow the instructions to pick your courses and build your timetable. To log in: Go to sis.georgianc.on.ca and select Login to Banner. You will need to use your Georgian student number for your username and your Personal Identification Number (PIN). (Hint: this is the same PIN that you ve used to access Web for Admissions). If you haven t logged in to Web for Admissions, your PIN is your date of birth (YYMMDD). Note: If you are in a program with a co-op/internship component, please register for your co-op hour on Banner. For assistance, contact your co-op consultant or academic area. What if I haven t paid my fees? It is important that you pay your fees on time so you can register. Please refer to page 7 in this document or georgiancollege.ca/admissions/apply. If you are a sponsored student and your sponsorship letter has not yet been received by the Office of the Registrar (Barrie), contact your sponsoring agency to ensure your letter is sent to secure payment of your fees. How do I get my booklist? Once you ve registered you will be able to view a personalized booklist based on your course selections. In Banner, go to https://sis-ssb.georgianc.on.ca/geor/twbkwbis.p_wwwlogin and log in using your User ID and PIN. After registering select View booklist and select your term. The required textbooks for your courses will be displayed. You will be able to purchase your textbooks directly through this link by selecting Buy Books. This will link you to the Georgian Stores website www.georgianstores.com and will display your complete list of course materials and what option they re available in (New, Used, E-book or Rental). Another option would be, after you have registered for your timetable in Banner you can go to www.georgianstores.com and enter your nine-digit student number and select your campus. Your booklist will be displayed to print or to purchase. Students at all campuses including sponsored and part-time students can purchase course materials online. You can also purchase your course materials in store at the Barrie, Orillia or Owen Sound Bear Essentials locations. You will require your web order number and student card/photo id if you choose to pick up your course materials from one of our depots. If you are a sponsored student visit the following link for ordering instructions http://www.georgianstores.com/georgian/site_sponsored_ student.asp. If we have not received your sponsorship letter, your account will not be set up to allow you to make your purchase either in store or online. Please allow 24 hours from the time your letter is received before purchasing your course materials. How do I get my Georgian College student card? You must have your photograph taken for your student ID card (including University Partnership Centre students). If you are on campus for Spring Preview or Fall Open House, looking for housing, taking a tour or writing your CPA, please drop in to the Office of the Registrar to have your photograph taken. You must have valid government-issued photo ID in order to have your photograph taken (for identity check). Acceptable forms of ID include: passport, health card and driver s licence. Once you ve paid your fees you can pick up your student card. georgiancollege.ca/admissions/register

PAYING MY FEES I ve accepted Georgian s offer of admission. Now what do I do? Once you have accepted our offer, you must pay a deposit or full fees by the deadline in order to hold your place in the program. Georgian assesses fees on a per-term basis (fall, winter, summer) so you will be paying fees each term. Once you pay your deposit/fees you will be able to register into your courses. What are the fee deadlines? Fall term fees are due June 25, 2014 Winter term fees are due Oct. 15, 2014 Summer term fees are due March 19, 2015 Note: If you choose to pay a tuition deposit, the balance of your fees is due by the following deadlines. A late charge will be added to your account if not paid by the deadline. Fall term fees are due by September 30 Winter term fees are due by January 30 Summer term fees are due by May 30 What if I miss the deadline, or receive an offer after the deadline? Some programs may still have spots, however Georgian reserves the right to refuse payments made after the deadline if the program is full. In addition, a late fee may apply. If you receive an offer after the fee deadlines listed above, refer to the offer letter for your fee deadline. If you do not pay a deposit or all of your fees by that date, you will forfeit your place in the program. Please refer to georgiancollege.ca/admissions/apply for details on payments and payment plans. How do I pay my fees? 1) Through your financial institution. This includes telephone and online banking or in person at your branch. Please note that the payee is Georgian College TUITION and your account number is your nine digit student number. Bank payments will be processed within three business days so please pay prior to the deadline. 2) Pay in person. You may pay by debit, certified cheque, cash or money order. We are unable to accept post-dated and personal cheques. Be sure to write your student number on the back of your certified cheque or money order. If paying by debit, please check your daily limit as many banks set limits of $500 per day. Georgian is unable to accept credit card payments. Please refer to georgiancollege.ca/admissions/apply I applied for a student financial aid program (OSAP). Do I still pay a deposit? Yes, all students, including OSAP recipients, must pay a deposit to secure their spot in the program and to register. For more information, please refer to Getting Financial Assistance on page 5. I will be a sponsored student. Do I need to pay the deposit? Students who are sponsored by a government agency, WSIB, employer or some other organization that is providing fees directly to Georgian College must provide a supporting letter prior to the fees due date. The letter must verify such sponsorship and provide an explanation as to how and when fees will be paid to Georgian, the amount being sponsored and for what duration. Your records will be updated to allow you to register in courses. Some fees may not be covered under your sponsorship (i.e., parking, bus pass, etc.). Check with your sponsorship agency to see if you are covered for such additional costs. These must be stated on your sponsorship letter. If you are a sponsored student with a point of contact on campus (i.e., a Student Success advisor), be sure to contact this person upon acceptance into your program. Contact information is available through your sponsorship agency or Georgian College. I will be a Second Career (SCS) sponsored student. Do I need to pay the deposit? Yes, students who are sponsored through the SCS program must pay a deposit to secure their spot in the program and to register. Once the college receives the SCS approval, the deferral charge will be waived. What if I need to withdraw from my program? Is there a financial penalty? In order to withdraw without financial penalty (having to pay all fees), you must withdraw in writing by the deadlines stated below, or complete the form which is available at georgiancollege.ca/admissions/forms. You are not officially withdrawn just by not showing up for class or verbally notifying your teacher, registration staff, counsellors or any other college staff or by declining your offer at ontariocolleges.ca. Withdrawal deadlines for most programs: Withdrawal deadlines after these dates full fees are payable. Sept. 15, 2014, for fall term Jan. 16, 2015, for winter term May 15, 2015, for summer term All fee descriptions are available online. COMMUNICATION PLACEMENT ASSESSMENT (CPA) What is a Communication Placement Assessment (CPA)? The CPA is an assessment of your literacy skills. We recommended you complete the CPA to determine the collegelevel communications course most appropriate to your language level. The CPA does not decrease the total number of communications courses needed to fulfill your program requirements. Please review program graduation requirements. Who needs to write the CPA? All students in college-level programs need to write the CPA. Students in college degree, graduate certificate or university programs do not need to write the CPA. What is expected of me during the session? Students will write two communications assessments, one in reading comprehension and another in sentence skills, including punctuation and grammar. The assessments are completed on computers and are multiple choice. Will the assessment results affect my admission status? No, except when the assessment is required to meet admission requirements, often for a mature student applicant or by specific programs for selection purposes. If you are a mature student applicant, please notify your admissions representative as soon as you have completed the assessment. When do I write the CPA? Students are encouraged to complete the CPA as soon as they have been accepted and have decided to attend Georgian. If you choose not to complete the CPA or you do not achieve the required CPA scores (90/120 in both Sentence Skills and Reading Comprehension), you must take Communication Essentials (COMM1016). If you achieve the required CPA scores, you can choose communications courses to meet your graduation requirements. Who should I contact? Please call the Centre for Access and Disability Services at a campus closest to you. What should I bring to the CPA session? STUDENT INSURANCE PLAN 2014 2015 What is student insurance? Your Students Administrative Council (SAC) administers the health and dental insurance program. 2014 2015 rates are yet to be determined. Visit mystudentplan.ca for rates. This insurance is mandatory for all full-time students. An opt-out provision is provided for students with proof of coverage elsewhere. The student insurance includes: prescriptions (under the Ontario Formulary), dental (under the Ontario fee guide), vision, extended health (i.e., chiropractor, physiotherapy, massage therapy, etc.) and accidental death and dismemberment. More details can be obtained from the office at your campus or at mystudentplan.ca select Georgian College from the drop down menu. Family coverage is also available. If you re interested in family coverage, application forms and a list of premiums will be available in the offices listed below. How do I submit a claim? Claim submission forms will be available online at mystudentplan.ca and in the offices at your campus. Already have coverage? Both plans feature an opt-out provision whereby you pay for coverage with your tuition fees but then get reimbursed. To opt-out you must have proof of coverage under another plan (for example, coverage with a spouse or parent). Go to mystudentplan.ca, choose Georgian College as your institution and complete the information requested. Once you have completed the form online, you will immediately receive a confirmation number. Please remember to keep this number safe it is your confirmation and only way of knowing that you did opt out. The insurance carrier will reimburse you by cheque or direct deposit. Cheques will be available for pick up at the office at your campus approximately 60 days after the semester start. Note: Other coverage means another plan other than your provincial health plan. Do I need to pay the insurance amount with my tuition fees? Because the insurance premium is billed with your tuition, it is paid when your tuition is paid.
