Trading beaver furs 5. Who did Henry Hudson sail for? What was he searching for? The Dutch (the Netherlands) New water routes to Asia (the Northwest Passage) 6. What was the most important Dutch colony in North America? Why was its location important? New Amsterdam The Dutch could control all trade on the Hudson River 7. What helped the colony of New Amsterdam to grow? They encouraged people from many countries to settle in New Amsterdam.
