APPLICATION NOTE Raven Electronics Corporation Specialized Communication Solutions Since 1968 M4x Vision over IP The power of the new M4x VoIP interface provides Raven and our partners a new level of flexibility in specialized mobile radio applications. M4x VoIP Applications Remote Monitoring and Control with VoIP Backhaul SIP Endpoint with 2 or 4-wire Analog Gateway Leased Line Elimination VoIP Backhaul Digital Voting System Troubleshooting Based on a field-proven VoIP engine, our VoIP solution provides a new dimension in power for the M4x product line. It s not just another VoIP product it s a digital control mechanism for voice and data services that is integrated with our entire line of M4x module products including radio, telephone, I/O, and serial modules. VoIP is not just a voice technology, but a Vision technology. Providing real-time information of all kinds of voice and data services requires technology vision and creativity. VoIP does not have to be simply for voice applications. It can be extended to any kind of service that requires real-time delivery. In today s mobile radio landscape, users are looking for non-proprietary ways to solve complex problems that exist in mobile radio applications. From digital voting schemes, voice capture and playback, interoperability, and dispatch operations the new M4x VoIP digital interface can and will address most needs of mobile and fixed radio users needs. Initially, Raven s VoIP interface will address most of the basic needs of the consumer including VoIP backhaul and leased-line elimination as well as SIP endpoint support and Radio over IP (RoIP) protocols. From there, our intention is to then provide a technology or set of LEGOs for communications engineers that may actually drive communications technology in the future. Further, our objective is to provide true digital interoperability in both our voting configurations as well as our radio control station configurations. Imagine simultaneous TRBO and NEXEDGE systems seamlessly interoperating with VHF conventional systems with Raven M4x VoIP this is becoming a reality. A Word About RoIP Our RoIP philosophy is to reduce proprietary limitations of other systems and provide both endpoint and source radio control without impacting existing dispatch or radio operations. With our extremely fast-attack VOX and digital voice activation technology (VAD) we have a capability of augmenting existing VoIP implementations without system redesign. Radios key without proprietary protocol support from other vendors and do so at the right time and without errant transmissions. M4x/VoIP Applications The flexibility and power of our M4x VoIP capabilities can be seen in the following applications. Keep in mind the next time you have a great idea that the following examples came from the creative minds of professionals in the radio communications field. Give us a call to discuss your specific application.
Realtime Digital Remote Monitoring and Control Remote monitoring and control was never considered a true real-time endeavor. Now, with VoIP concepts in play, M4x has the ability to monitor remote systems and their supporting infrastructures in a real-time manner without polling remote devices. Specialized Applications Raven has never insisted that a customer change their operational requirements based on our inability to provide a solution. Our M4x platform is designed to allow the customer to define their own business process and we will design our product to fit their need. As one example, here is a concept of remote :over-the-air notification of status using M4x VoIP technologies. www.ravencomm.com Phone 775.858.2400 Fax 775.858.2410 400 Edison Way Reno, Nevada 89502
Digital Voting With the advent of DMR, many mobile radio users are upgrading conventional analog voting systems with new digital technologies. Previously there was no easy answer to digital talk-in voting for simulcast systems now there is. With the help of radio manufacturers like Kenwood, M4x has a flexible method of voting digital radio signals without sacrificing their audio quality or rich feature set. Bridging the Gap (NEXEDGE recording) Mobile users are starting to deploy digital mobile radio (DMR) technologies from major radio manufactures in order to capitalize on the voice quality and features they offer. In doing so, some voice recording vendors are requiring gateways to allow this voice recording without first deploying and implementing expensive VOCODER technologies. M4x provides a means to bridge the gap between new technologies and existing infrastructure. Recording solution does not currently support decoding NEXEDGE digital voice frames. Solution: Using M4x as a gateway we can capture recovered voice audio from NXR receiver, copy digital headers from NXTR VoIP frame into new g.711 packets and forward to a TCP port on a recording device such as Eventide. SIP Radio Gateway Imagine your radio infrastructure becoming as versatile as a true digital keying system or PBX. Endpoints become phone numbers and conferencing capabilities turn your radio infrastructure into a new kind of trunked radio network without the cost of ownership. Simple Leased Line Elimination With public telephone lines being replaced by digital microwave and other technologies, VoIP is becoming the most popular manner in backhauling voice resources from radio receivers. These resources can be from any M4x supported module. M4x provides a means to do just that while offering backup options and subscriber control of these backhaul methodologies. A single blade supports multiple endpoints, depending on bandwidth requirements. IP Network Dispatch
