U S C U P S TAT E A D M I S S I O N I N F O R M AT I O N ADMISSION PROCEDURES Admission the University of South Carolina Upstate is based on past academic achievement and a demonstrated aptitude for college-level work. All required credentials must be received before a final decision can be made. Please carefully follow guidelines. FRESHMAN ADMISSION Applicants who have attempted no formal coursework beyond high school are classified as freshmen. Freshman applicants must submit the following: Completed application and nonrefundable $40 application fee. Official high school transcript or official General Educational Development (GED) score report. SAT or ACT scores, if under the age of 22. SAT or ACT writing score if graduation date is 2006 or after. TRANSFER ADMISSION A transfer applicant is a person who has graduated from high school or has received a GED certificate and who has attempted coursework at a college, university or technical institution. Transfer applicants must submit the following: Completed application and nonrefundable $40 application fee. Official final transcripts from all schools attended. Transcripts must be mailed or sent electronically the Office of Admissions by the institution. Our school code is 00695100 for electronic transcripts. NOTE: Official transcripts received by USC Upstate cannot be returned students or forwarded other institutions. Official high school transcript or official General Educational Development (GED) score report if fewer than 30 semester hours have been attempted. SAT or ACT scores if under the age of 22 and fewer than 30 semester hours have been attempted. INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS Applicants who are citizens of other countries are considered international students and must submit a completed application form and a completed international student packet. Contact the Office of Admissions for further details. READMISSION OF FORMER DEGREE-SEEKING STUDENTS Persons previously enrolled at USC Upstate who have missed either a spring or a fall semester must submit an application for readmission the institution. Applicants who have attempted coursework at another college or technical school since last attending USC Upstate must meet admission requirements as listed under transfer admission. Submit credentials as listed under transfer admissions. NOTIFICATION OF ADMISSION The USC Upstate Office of Admissions will provide: During the same week an application is received by the Office of Admissions, the applicant will be sent notification of receipt. Thirty days after all required credentials are received from an applicant, he or she will be mailed notification of the admission decision. ADVISEMENT TESTS Advisement tests will be administered all newly accepted freshmen. Accepted transfer students will be notified if testing is required. Test results are used by academic advisors for scheduling appropriate courses. ORIENTATION AND REGISTRATION Students should plan attend an orientation program prior beginning classes. During the program students will take advisement tests, meet with their academic advisors, register for classes and discover opportunities available at USC Upstate. Orientation dates will be sent after an applicant is admitted the University. RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS USC Upstate assesses tuition and fees upon the basis of state residency. South Carolina law defines residents as persons who have been domiciled in South Carolina for a period of no less than twelve months with an intention of making a permanent home therein. The initial resident status determination is made at the time of admission and prevails until such time that a student establishes a proper claim residency as defined by the laws of South Carolina. Any student who is discovered have been improperly classified as a South Carolina resident will be reclassified as a nonresident and will be required pay differences in fees. Persons having questions about residency are encouraged obtain a Residency Application Package from the Office of Admissions or visit the USC Upstate Web site. An appointment with the admissions staff discuss residency requirements may be arranged. IMMUNIZATION All students born after December 31, 1956, are required provide proof of immunity measles (rubeola) and German measles (rubella) before attending orientation and registration. A form will be sent all students following admission. The form with supporting documentation must be returned health services at USC Upstate. Students may send a copy of immunization records on file at a previous college, university or high school. DISABILITY SERVICES Students with disabilities are assisted through the Office of Disability Services. The staff works ward accessibility for all university programs, services and activities in compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act. Services offered include priority registration, test procring, classroom adaption, sign language interpreter, reader and note taker.
