Welcome to your FREE Sophos Antivirus Software Please take some time to download and install this software on your personal computers. This software is exactly the same antivirus software used on the Town and School computers to ensure the integrity of your data. Installing this software on your home computer will ensure any documents transferred between home and school will also be virus free. * Before installing Sophos, confirm there is no other existing anti-virus software on the computer. Installing multiple/competing anti-virus software may cause problems. How to download and install the software: Apple Macintosh OS 10.2 and OS 10.4+ ---------------------------------------------- NOTE: YOU MUST BE LOGGED IN AS AN ADMINISTRATOR TO INSTALL THIS SOFTWARE. Typically you are an administrator on your home computer. ---------------------------------------------- 1. Click on the Apple folder icon to locate the Mac OS 10.2 savosx49sa.dmg or the Mac OS 10.4 savosx70sa.dmg installation file. 2. Click once on the file. The Download Manager will start to download the.dmg file to your desktop. 3. NOTE: This is a VERY large file it will take some time to download. Please be patient.
4. After the.dmg installer file has downloaded, it will open automatically or you may need to double click the file. An installer window will open. 5. Double-click the Sophos Installer file (Sophos Anti-Virus.mpkg) 6. The installer program will launch. Select "Continue" in the first window that appears.
7. Confirm the program installation by selecting "Continue" from the Welcome screen. 8. Select "Continue" from the Important Information screen. 9. In the next step, select the hard drive as the destination for the files that will be unpacked.
10. Select "Continue." 11. Select "Install." 12. A prompt for User ID and password will appear. This is NOT your Franklin username and password. This is a separate User ID and password combination needed to install material on the computer (Your home Admin username and password). This account would have been created when the computer was first configured. Enter the information and select "OK."
13. The installation will now begin. There will be a progress bar reporting the status. 14. When the installation is complete, Select "Close" in the bottom right corner of the window. The installation is now complete and a new shield icon has been added to the right side of the menu bar.
15. To set Sophos to download updates automatically, the default setting must be changed. Select the "Sophos" icon. 16. Select "Open Preferences..." from the pop-up menu. 17. Select the "AutoUpdate" tab near the top of the window.
18. Select the small lock icon on the bottom left of the window. 19. Insert the computer user name and password as done in step 12. 20. Confirm "Company web server" is selected. AutoUpdate Window: This is where you will enter your personal logon information to be used to update the virus software when needed. You will need to know your Computer logon ID that you use at Work/School and the password associated with this username.
21. In the URL Address box type the following EXACTLY: For MAC 10.2: http://franklin.ma.us:8085/esosx/ For MAC 10.4+ http://franklin.ma.us:8085/escosx/ NOTE: For Mac OS 10.4+ you will see the window below.
22. In the Username box enter your computer logon username followed by @fpsma.net Example: If your username is DOEJ then you would enter DOEJ@fpsma.net 23. In the Password box enter your computer logon password 24. Select the "Set" toward the bottom right of the window. 25. Select the small lock icon to prevent further changes. 26. Close the window by selecting the red dot at the top left. 27. To ensure Sophos is running correctly, select "Sophos" icon (upper right corner in the menu bar) 28. Select "Update Now" from the pop-up menu. The first time this is done the program may download numerous files. When completed Sophos will be updated. 29. Select "Close." It is not necessary to configure Sophos beyond its default settings, but it is possible.
Appendix A: How to Uninstall Sophos Anti-Virus 1. Navigate to the Sophos uninstaller. On your hard drive, open the Library folder, then the Application Support folder, then the Sophos Anti-Virus folder. The uninstaller is called Remove Sophos Anti-Virus.pkg. 2. Double-click the Remove Sophos Anti-Virus.pkg file. 3. In the welcome window, click Continue. 4. In the Select a Destination window, make sure the drive on which Sophos is installed is selected. Then click Continue.
5. In the Easy Install window, click Install. 6. You will be prompted for a name and password to authorize the installation of software on your machine. Use a Macintosh administrator user name and password the same name and password you use when you install any software on your Macintosh computer. You must have administrator privileges on your computer to authorize installation of software.
7. The uninstaller will run. 8. You will see conformation that the uninstaller has run successfully. Click the Close button. Sophos will no longer be installed on your computer.
