About RAM Editions Addresses different usage patterns Publisher: search, view, comment, download, submit, modify, review Collaborator: search, view, comment, download Anonymous User search for public assets Provide flexible deployment approaches Standard Edition (SE) Enterprise Edition (EE) Licensing models for SE Authorized User (AU) Licensing models for EE Authorized User (AU) Floating User (FL) Fixed Term Licenses (TERM) Tokens (NEW! As of RAM V7.5) 2

RAM V7.5 packaging overview RAM Standard Edition (SE) Authorized User Simple license type Out of the box lifecycles Publisher Floating / Fixed Term / Token Collaborator Floating / Fixed Term / Token RAM Enterprise Edition (EE) Publisher Authorized User Server clustering (when used with WAS ND) Add additional lifecycle workflows Supports Floating, Fixed Term and Token licenses RAM EE Server (Install with 3 AU) is withdrawn as of Sept 21, 2010 Server license is no longer required Replaced with 3 x Publisher Authorized User at renewal time Token licenses are a new option in RAM EE 7.5 3

Q: How does license key enforcement work? Administrators assign users to AU licenses: Collaborator or Publisher The RAM Web UI provides a tool to map users to AU licenses SE license cannot be used in an EE server, and vice versa Audit report can be generated to show license usage Floating license is consumed by users not assigned an AU license Collaborator license is consumed initially until a publisher feature is invoked then license consumption switches to publisher 30 minutes of inactivity, or logging out, releases the license (Floating) 4

more on Floating license enforcement: When a user searches and browses without authenticating then no floating license is used This is considered an "Anonymous" user Anonymous users are limited to searching and browsing for "public" assets When an anonymous user displays a public asset details, then an available collaborator floating license is checked out When an authenticated user displays an asset, then a Collaborator license is checked out Unless they already had a Publisher license from a previous action When an authenticated user modifies or submits an asset, then a Publisher license is checked out (and if a Collaborator license was checked out, then it is check in). When an authenticated user logs out, then the license is returned; for either Collaborator or Publisher Unless the user had other sessions 5

more on Authorized User license enforcement: A user is assigned an authorized user license For EE: each authorized user license is of one access type: Collaborator or Publisher For SE: there is only one type called Authorized User If the authorized user license is of type Collaborator, and the user attempts to modify or submit an asset, then an available floating Publisher license is checked out 6

Q: How do I reconcile the different editions & license types? License Standard Edition Enterprise Edition Publisher Enterprise Edition Collaborator Authorized User All functionality Use the product daily Asset reviewers Repository or community administrator Program integrations Submit & update assets Search & use assets Use the product daily Only search & download assets No need to modify, update or review assets Floating User Use product less than 1x per month / day Asset reviewers Submit & update assets Search & use assets Use product less than 1x per month / day Only search & download assets No need to modify, update or review assets 7

Q: Why do Floating licenses cost so much more than Authorized User licenses? Floating licenses are designed to be shared by many occasional users An occasional user is one who accesses the system less than once a day If more frequent access is needed, use Authorized User license for that user The following table is a model of how the Floating licenses may be used: Users Total Pub. Total Collabor. # Servers # Users a single Pub Floating Covers # Users a single Collabor. Floating Covers 15 90% 10% 1 5 5 50 80% 20% 1 5 5 250 60% 40% 1 8 15 500 30% 70% 1 8 25 1000 20% 80% 1 8 50 2500 10% 90% 2 8 75 5000 10% 90% 2 8 100 25000 5% 95% 4 8 120 8

Q: Isn t there a lot of administrative overhead for Authorized User licenses? No - Simply load your AU licenses into the license server, just like Floating Authorized User licenses in RAM are the same as Floating licenses with one difference: You will map a user to a license to authorize them This mapping can be changed at any time to accommodate permanent reassignment of users 9

Q: What can an anonymous user do? An unauthenticated user (Anonymous) can search for public assets without consuming a license To view asset details or perform other asset functions like update, review, comment or download, you must have a Publisher or Collaborator License. NOTE! browsing asset details without a login (anonymously) will consume an available floating license Anonymous access is available using the Web Client and Eclipse Client. 10
