Introduction This program gives Fletcher students the opportunity to take courses that simultaneously satisfy requirements for both the Fletcher Associate of General Studies degree and a baccalaureate program at Nicholls State University. While working on the 60 credit hours required for the A.G.S. degree students may, by selecting the appropriate courses, begin the pursuit of a bachelor s degree. The guides provided in this document are designed to assist both advisors and students in course selection for the various four-year degree programs offered at Nicholls. You will notice that most programs require that Fletcher students cross enroll in courses at Nicholls. In those cases, rather than completing all 60 hours at Fletcher, through this agreement, students will cross enroll at Nicholls to take courses that apply to both the A.G.S. degree at Fletcher and a selected baccalaureate degree at Nicholls. Students may cross enroll in up to six hours each semester. (See Appendix A for further policies regarding cross enrollment.) It should be noted that for some programs students may not be able to complete the 60 hours taken at Nicholls within a two-year period. Application Process Students wishing to participate in this program should complete the Intent to Participate Form at the time of their registration at Fletcher (Appendix B). Students must complete their A.G.S. within 5 years of the date specified on the Intent to Participate Form and must enroll at Nicholls the semester (fall or spring) immediately following the conclusion of the Fletcher A.G.S. degree. Students must complete an application for admission and submit all necessary fees, transcripts, and other documents as required. Students must follow all cross enrollment policies and procedures each semester (Appendix A). Program Guides The subsequent pages contain advising guides for the various programs offered through this agreement. Advisors and students should consult the current Nicholls State University catalog for specific program entrance, grade, and minor requirements. A table of Fletcher-to-Nicholls course equivalencies is included in this document (Appendix C) to assist with the selection of elective courses. Advisors and students should be aware of the following: Each Nicholls program requires that a student complete o six hours of English composition. o a minimum of six hours of non-developmental, non-technical mathematics (designated as nondev MATH courses). Developmental mathematics courses will not apply to any four year degree. o a minimum of nine hours of natural science courses including courses in both the biological and physical sciences. Six hours shall be earned in a single biological or physical science. Three hours must be earned in a natural science area other than that selected to fulfill the six-hour requirement. If a student completes six hours in the biological sciences, say BIOL 1010 and 1140, then the student s third science course must be a physical science, for example, GEOL 1010. Please note that if a student completes six hours in the physical sciences, those six hours must be in the same science; for example, six hours of CHEM courses, six hours of GEOL courses, six hours of PHSC courses, etc. 4
o a minimum of nine hours of humanities courses including three hours of English literature that transfers to Nicholls as a 200-level course. o a minimum of six hours of social sciences courses. o a minimum of three hours of fine arts courses. o a minimum of two hours designated to fulfill the computer literacy requirement.* o a one hour UNIV course.* *Upon transfer the one hour UNIV course requirement is waived for all transfer students with 30 or more earned credits. For those programs with a 2-hour computer literacy requirement, Fletcher students may fulfill the 2 hour computer literacy requirement and earn the 1 credit hour lost in the waiver of the UNIV requirement by completing Fletcher s three hour computer literacy course, CPTR 1100 or the LCTCS Online course, CIS 105. Free elective courses may be selected from any academic, non-vocational/technical courses. Advisors and students should check the table of course equivalencies (Appendix C) for transferable courses. All courses listed in the program guides are three credits unless otherwise indicated. [e.g., MATH 165(5), BIOL 155(4), etc.] Courses with three digit numbers listed in the Courses to be Taken at Fletcher column are courses offered through LCTCS Online (http://online.lctcs.edu/). These courses are typically listed in parentheses behind equivalent Fletcher courses [For example, ENGL 1010 (101), HIST 2010 (201), CPTR 1100 (CIS 105), etc.] 2013-2014 Programs The table below identifies Nicholls academic programs and the number of credit hours for which Fletcher students must cross enroll. Students may be required to take from 0 to 24 hours through cross enrollment depending upon the program. Note that some guides list courses necessary to satisfy A.G.S. requirements that do not apply to the associated baccalaureate program. Also, some baccalaureate programs require more than 120 credit hours. In each case, more than 60 hours are required upon transfer to Nicholls. Appendix C: Course Equivalencies 53
Nicholls State University Table of Course Equivalents for Fletcher Technical Community College All courses appearing on this list transfer to Nicholls State University. Some of the courses are equivalent to current Nicholls courses and some are not. Course abbreviations and numbers that include Xs represent courses that do not transfer as specific Nicholls courses. For example, an ARTS course taken at FTCC may receive an ART 1XX or ART 2XX designation. This means that the course content does not match sufficiently with any art course offered at Nicholls. In this case the student will receive credit for an ART course at the 100 or 200 level. A course receiving an XXXX designation indicates that the course does not match with any at Nicholls; however, credit is still granted for the course. The determination as to whether the courses described here or the courses listed below will satisfy any requirement of a particular degree program is made by the department and the college of the major. Developmental (remedial) courses ( ) are not considered college-level courses and therefore will not apply to any degree program. Vocational/technical courses will not transfer to Nicholls.
