FIRM PROFILE Geosciences Testing and Research, Inc. (GTR) was founded in 1995 as a geotechnical engineering construction consulting company and along with our New York Company Foundation Engineering Services DPC. (FES) we are able to serve our clients from Maine to Southern New Jersey. Along with this region we have completed multiple projects as far West as Hawaii, as far South as Florida and internationally in Jamaica, Africa, Europe and the Middle East. GTR provides foundation engineering and geotechnical consulting services and specializes in design, instrumentation, testing, soil structure interaction and research of foundations. Our services have been utilized during the design, construction, and post construction phases of geotechnical projects for both public and private agencies. GTR is currently involved in or has recently completed some of the largest federally supported public work projects in the USA. The majority of our work comes from long-term relationships with our repeat clients and referrals. GTR and FES has developed a group of niche geotechnical engineering services and capabilities that are in demand by our clients. Our continued mastery of these services and understanding of our client s needs are what sets GTR apart from its competitors. Our 24 hour 7 day approach to our testing services provides timely results which allow the contractor to proceed without delay to the project schedule. GEOTECHNICAL SERVICES GTR and FES provides geotechnical engineering services on public and private projects throughout the design process from preliminary studies that assist in site selection/permitting to designing the most cost efficient/constructible foundation system. Our projects include schools, hospitals, commercial developments, residential buildings, utility infrastructure and transportation projects. GTR has written NCHRP Reports 507 and 651 on Load Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) for Deep and Shallow Foundations. These reports serve as the backbone of the current LRFD AASHTO codes. Design Phase Services Geotechnical Subsurface Investigations Boring inspection and soil/rock classification Performance/energy monitoring of SPT during drilling Shallow and deep foundation feasibility and design Static pile capacity analysis and loadsettlement evaluation Foundation heave/settlement analysis Soil/Ground improvement Slope Stability analyses In-situ and testing services Wave equation analysis (WEAP) and drivability studies to evaluate pile-soil-driving system compatibility Foundation/earth support, and instrumentation plans GTR has performed design phase deep foundation test programs to optimize the driven and drilled pile solutions for axial, lateral and tension capacities. CONSTRUCTION SERVICES GTR and FES provides and specializes in a broad range of construction observation, testing and quality control services to our general contractor, subcontractor, architect, engineer and public agencies client base. Our 24 hour 7 day approach to our testing services provides timely results which allow the contractor to proceed without delay to the project schedule. GTR has provided excavation support and temporary structure/trestle design for building, bridge, highway, railway, and marine projects. GTR personnel are PDA certified and have highly specialized training to perform Non-Destructive Testing (CSL, Sonic Echo, Impulse Echo, Parallel Seismic, Ultra Seismic and Thermal Integrity) of concrete structures in accordance with the applicable ASTM Standards. GTR is actively developing software, hardware, and instrumentation for improving the design and reducing the costs of foundation construction. Construction Phase Services Field monitoring of excavation and foundation installation inspection Dynamic pile testing using the pile driving analyzer (PDA), including the Case and Energy Approach methods for driven and cast-in-place foundations Non destructive testing of foundations, including small strain sonic integrity testing, Crosshole Sonic Logging (CSL) CSL Tomography (CT), Sonic Echo (SE), Impact Echo (IE), Ultra Seismic (US), Parallel Seismic (PS) and Single Hole Sonic Logging (SSL) methods Static load test monitoring and interpretation of all types of deep foundations systems Design and Instrumentation of foundations and earth support systems Vibration/blast monitoring with Call Home features Down the hole camera and Mini-SID Inspection Dewatering Design and Submittals Pre Construction Surveys Drilled Shaft Thermal Integrity Testing (TIP) Foundation Engineering Services DPC. POST CONSTRUCTION SERVICES Just because the project ends does not mean our clients needs end. We perform multiple post construction services to fully serve our clients from start to finish. Post Construction Phase Services Post Construction Surveys Drilled shaft remediation and repair plans Assessment of pile capacity variation with time Settlement Evaluation Foundation damage analysis Expert Witnesses Construction Claim Review Existing deep foundation system integrity, testing and capacity analysis GTR not only provides quality drilled shaft integrity testing, we have helped developed the testing equipment and continue to perform research into the application of these methods. Highlighted Projects Q-Bridge/Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge Construction phase testing services (CSL and PDA) for precast driven pile foundations and 6 to 8 feet diameter drilled shafts. GTR also provided Mini SID inspection of the bottom of the large diameter shafts. Challenging aspects of the project involved assessing time dependent changes in pile capacity for the PPC piles and investigating the concrete placement techniques for the large diameter shafts. Provided remediation procedures for a defect in a drilled shaft which included hydro demolition, pressure grouting and CSL Tomography. Sakonnet River Bridge Design, load testing and construction phase consulting for complex pile foundations of a multi span 2850 feet long river crossing. The bridge was the first significant LRFD designed structures in the New England area. The design phase program involved static and dynamic load testing on H-piles and large diameter pipe piles with capacities in excess of 6000 kips. An innovative solution was developed by GTR for the large diameter pipe piles that forced plugging and increase pile capacity, and hence, significantly reducing pile lengths compared to originally designed open pipe piles. The innovative design, its verification in load-test and construction had resulted in a very large cost savings. The construction phase services including testing on every large diameter pipe pile over various stages of installation, modeling and acceptance evaluation. Steamship Authority Terminal Reconstruction Design and construction phase services to test and develop driven Spin Fin pile foundations. The project was the first permanent use of Spin Fin piles in the East Coast of the U.S. The Spin Fin piles were used to reduce pile lengths for end bearing and uplift loading conditions as compared to significantly longer traditional pipe pile foundations. I195/I95 Improvements/ Providence River Bridge Deep foundation design and pile load test program services. Testing involved tensile, lateral, compressive, PDA, and vibration monitoring of numerous pile types driven in the difficult Providence Varved Silts. The results of the test program have been and are currently being used as the benchmark reference for future foundations in the Providence area. GTR also performed large scale instrumentation of the Providence River Bridge to measure strains and assess loads on the bridge arch and beam structures during various phases of bridge construction. The results of the instrumentation program were used to calibrate the bridge model to determine the cable tensioning requirements. The Data Acquisition System included 14 different multiplexers connected via wireless data loggers.
