The following 10 banks were picked based on what s happening in the news, which banks are the most profitable, and which ones have truly innovative business models and marketing strategies. 1. CBR became the first bank to ever collect and save a cord blood sample, setting the stage for cord blood banking around the world. The first cord blood sample ever saved by a family belonged to the son of CBR's Scientific Director. 20 years later, CBR has become the largest stem cell bank, banking over 400,000 children s stem cells.
2. This bank has led the way in global partnerships to expand their cord blood banking practices around the world. Their South American operating division in Argentina generated an increase in revenue for the company by 35% in 2012, and provided what the company believes to be the annuity streams of tomorrow. While the US operations are growing at a steady rate of 10%.
3. Cyro Cell International Cyro Cell International became a global leader in cord blood banking by being one of the first to offer cord tissue banking and the first to offer menstrual stem cell banking, as well as the traditional cord blood banking service. Cryo-Cell is on the forefront of medical research and development with globally-renowned menstrual stem cell research partnerships, including part-ownership of biomedical research firm Saneron CCEL Therapeutics, Inc.
4. Viacord gets great recognition for their partnership with the Children s Hospital of Oakland CA and for having released over 250 stem cell collections for use in treatment and clinical trials to date. Nearly 90% of the medical treatments that utilized cord blood stem cells prepared by ViaCord have been successful - the highest rate shared by any family bank.
5. CordVida is most known for being South America s largest cord blood bank and for leading the way in alternative uses for cord blood banks, as larger biobanking facilities. CordVida was the first to offer the complete storage of blood stem cells and stem cells from umbilical cord tissue. CordVida also uses a method of cell isolation free of animal hormones, for the processing of stem cells of the umbilical tissue. This allows for cells to be readily available in its natural state without interference from external agents.
6. Cyro-Save is the largest family cord blood bank in Europe and a leading international stem cell storage company. The company also released a new freezing procedure which increases availability of cord blood stem cells for transplants in patients. In the current study Dr. Ivanovic and co-workers (Etablissement Français du Sang Aquitaine- Limousin) and a team of Cryo-Save researchers have demonstrated that these cultured stem cells can be frozen and thawed without negatively affecting the quality of the stem cells. An important step towards successful stem cell transplants in patients for whom too few stem cells are available.
7. The NCBP is the world's oldest and largest public cord blood bank. NCBP was the first cord blood bank to received IND exemption from the FDA in 1996. This program makes cord blood available under an Investigational New Drug (IND) exemption from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for children and adults who face a life-threatening illness and need "stem cell" transplants from unrelated donors. NCBP was also the first public cord blood bank in the world to receive NetCord- FACT accreditation.
8. Cryobanks International Inc (or Lifeforce Cryobanks) is recognized for setting up the first cord blood bank in India. Cryobanks International also is one of few cord blood banks that provide the choice of donation, either through their Private Cord Blood Storage Program for expecting families that wish to privately store their baby's precious stem cells and a Public Cord Blood Donation Program for those who prefer to donate. Cryobanks International India, became the first cord blood stem cell bank to be set up in India. The bank also has its own international ventures, with the creation of CryoViva Thailand and Africare Africa.
9. China Cord Blood Corporation, the largest cord blood banking operator in China, helped create the highly recognized non-profit organization - AsiaCORD (Asia Cord Blood Bank) Organization. China Cord Blood Corporation Group won the "Deloitte Technology Fast 50 China" and "Deloitte Technology Fast 500 Asia Pacific" awards where top 50 fastest growing technology companies in China and top 500 fastest growing technology companies in Asia Pacific were selected based on their revenue growth over the past three years.
10. VHB most notably known for the founder, billionaire Richard Branson, is also the fist cord blood bank to have a facility in Qatar. Richard Branson made a personal commitment that all proceeds from Virgin Health Bank to the Virgin Group will be donated to initiatives that are helping to fully realize the potential of cord blood stem cells and for that, get s great recognition.
