6 bioarchive 2013 Speakers: DR. ETIENNE BAUDOUX Dr. Baudoux started working in the apheresis unit of the local blood transfusion centre ( ), where connections with the haematology Department began. He actively contributed to BM harvests, BM processing, and later became involved with peripheral stem cell collections. He has been involved in the beginning of the Bone Marrow Donor Program-Belgium (MDP-B). In , he was involved with medical co-operation with South Africa as a part of German integrated experts program (and did medicine, pediatrics, O and G, and general surgery in a rural hospital). In 1999 he was offered a position with the University Hospital of Liège where he was in charge creation of a brand new cleanroom facility aimed at hosting the HSC bank, the CB bank, and cell processing activities. He is currently the head of the Liege Cord Blood Bank which has been awarded FACT accreditation and the HSC transplant program is about to apply for JACIE accreditation. He is a trained FACT and JACIE inspector for CB banks Dr. Baudoux also is the current President of the NetCord Foundation and the Secretary Europe & Africa for WMDA.

7 FRANCESC de HARO Francesc de Haro. Founder of BLOOD BANK SOLUTIONS which is a consultancy firm, specialized on proposing Solutions to the Blood, Cord Blood and Regenerative Medicine Centers, which give customers new business opportunities, achieving the highest levels of effectiveness and efficiency in their operations. Business management expert, with experience in different operational and strategic business areas. Holds a PDD from the IESE Business School (Barcelona) and Post-graduate degree from the University of Barcelona. LYDIA FOEKEN Lydia Foeken is Chief Operating Officer of the World Marrow Donor Association (WMDA). In her role she combines knowledge from the field of unrelated stem cell donation (cord blood banking, volunteer unrelated donation) with international collaboration.

8 NICK GRECO Ph.D. Nicholas (Nick) Greco, Ph.D. Obtained a PhD in Physiological Biochemistry with platelet and neutrophil-derived prostaglandins and leukotrienes, served as staff scientist at the American Red Cross focusing on characterizing and cloning platelet receptors, has conducted basic and translational hematology and regenerative medicine research supporting clinical trials with bone marrow (cardiology focused) and cord blood (hematology/oncology focused)- derived cells, and a co-developer of the non-profit public Cleveland Cord Blood Center. He is currently an adjunct Assistant Professor, National Center for Regenerative Medicine, Case Western Reserve University, and a consultant (business, regulatory, technical development) for non-profit and for-profit organizations in the areas of cord blood, cellular therapy, wound healing, and a manufacturer of cgmp reagents for clinical trials.

9 DR. OLIVIER GIET Olivier Giet has been the quality coordinator of the Liege Cord Blood Bank/ Laboratory of Cellular and Gene Therapy (since January 2002) and of the ULICE Program (University of Liege- Cellular Therapy Center) (since May 2005) of the University Hospital of Liege (Belgium). He holds a Bachelor of Sciences in Biology, a European Master in Biotechnology, a PhD in Biomedical Sciences and a Certificate of Specialized Studies in Quality Assurance. Olivier Giet has been heavily involved in obtaining legal licenses as well as NETCORD/FACT accreditation for Liege CBB. He is the author or co-author of several peer reviewed articles in the fields of hematopoietic stem cells and Clean room & controlled environment management, published in international scientific journals.

10 DR. VINCENT KINDLER Vincent Kindler, PhD, PD. Obtained his PhD from the Geneva Science Faculty in 1987 working on murine hematopoiesis. Worked then for 1.5 years for a Glaxo Pharmaceuticals on various preclinical projects involving recombinant interleukin- 2 and GM-CSF. Returned to the academic world in 1990 following a research activity on immunology and hematopoiesis. Obtained his private-docent (PD) thesis in In charge of the graft-processing laboratory of the hematology Service of Geneva University Hospital and head of the Geneva cord blood bank since DR. SERGIO QUEROL Dr. Querol is the Medical Director of Barcelona Cord Blood Bank- Banc de Sang I Teixits Consultant to Anthony Nolan Cord Blood Bank- Nottingham, UK He currently is an active member of NetCord and has served as a past president.
