7 Probability of Use 1999 Today It has been estimated that the use of autologous cord blood is 1:20,000 collections. (Annas. NEJM. 1999) CIBMTR data indicate that in the U.S the lifetime probabilities are 1:400 and 1:200 respectively for undergoing allogenic HSCT or either autologous or allogenic HSCT. (Nietfield, Pasquini. American Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation 2008) Almost 1 in 3 individuals could potentially benefit over their lifetime from regenerative medicine (Harris BJH 2009)
