Sep 2015 Aug 2016 Graduate Research Assistant, Dept. of Civil & Environmental Eng. Jan 2010 Aug 2015 Ph.D. Student, Developed a fully-coupled axisymmetric numerical model to examine the behavior of confined geological reservoirs during injection operations, incorporating seal rock behavior/interactions. 06 2015 Kamelia Atefi Curriculum Vitae 1
Performed detailed analysis on numerical results to optimize injection operations, enhance adopted monitoring techniques, identify potential failure zones, and locate possible leakage areas. Derived a 3D weakly-coupled poro-elasto-plastic analytical solution for fluid injection in confined unconsolidated reservoirs, which also gives propagation of the extreme damaged zone. Derived a 3D fully-coupled analytical solution to describe the time-dependent poro-elastic behavior of confined geological reservoirs during injection, incorporating seal rock characteristics. Graduate Research Assistant, Dept. of Civil & Environmental Eng. Sep 2007 Dec 2009 M.A.Sc. Student, Developed an inverse numerical model for indirect monitoring of subsurface pressures using surface deformation measurements, via a novel implementation of a new regularization technique. Developed a numerical model to compute surface deformation metrics using subsurface sources of volumetric changes. Demonstrated via sensitivity analysis, impacts of surface deformation monitoring strategies on accuracy of indirect subsurface monitoring, determining that: o Ground tilt is a more suitable metric versus commonly used vertical displacements. o Increase in data collection accuracy notably reduces required number of benchmarks. o A threshold exists after which increasing number of benchmarks has minimal impact on simulation accuracy.
