1. RSM s Double Degree programme Introduction Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University has a Double Degree programme, which combines a master at RSM with a master abroad. The Double Master s Degree in Management (DM²) programme is the result of a unique collaboration between RSM and four other leading European institutions: * ESADE (Barcelona, Spain) : www.esade.es * University of St. Gallen (Switzerland) : www.unisg.ch * Università Commerciale Luigi Bocconi (Milan, Italy) : www.uni-bocconi.it Please note that one university has left the Double Degree programme. Per 2013-2014 RSM students can no longer choose HEC Paris for the Double Degree programme. Lasting for approximately 2½ years including one year spent at another DM² partner school the programme has been designed specifically for students who want to add a second Master s degree to the one in Rotterdam. In doing so they will hold two degrees from renowned business schools, significantly increasing their value to potential employers. Only bachelor students from RSM Erasmus University are eligible to apply for the DM² Programme. One of the following RSM master programmes will have to be done during the master year in Rotterdam: - MSc in Entrepreneurship & New Business Venturing - MSc in Finance & Investments - MSc in Marketing Management - MSc in Strategic Management - MSc in Supply Chain Management Every year, around 10-12 RSM students can be selected to participate in this programme. Only qualified and motivated students are eligible for participation. Good study results, study progress, language skills and a solid motivation are important selection criteria. Please read the concerning chapter for more information. The DM² study programme DM² students from RSM participate in a study programme with a time span of approximately 2 ½ years, depending on the programme of the partner university. As a DM² student you will follow the same Master Programme courses as every other MSc student in Rotterdam (in one of the above mentioned programmes). During your Master year abroad you have to pass at least 40 ECTS in courses which can be combined with your Master Programme at RSM. Specific requirements differ between the participating schools and between Master Programmes, so inform yourself well. At the end of the programme, students must have gained 120 ECTS in credits. The combined Master Thesis at the end of the programme will be supervised both by the home and the host university. Degree After completing the Double Degree programme, you will obtain a degree from RSM and a degree from the partner university. For the RSM master programmes Marketing Management, Strategic Management and Entrepreneurship the degree is Master of Science in Business Administration. For the other two masters you will either get the degree MSc in Supply Chain Management or MSc in Finance & Investments. Tuition fee During the whole DM² period you will stay registered at RSM. You keep paying tuition fee to the Erasmus University during your time abroad and are exempted from tuition fee payment to the host university. Most universities however require you to pay an administration or graduation fee. 2

Changes in tuition fees Be aware that the government is currently installing fines or higher tuition fees for students who study longer ( langstudeerderboete ) or who do 2 master studies. Concerning the higher tuition fee for students who do 2 masters. When a student has already completed one subsidised master study and wishes to pursue a second master, the government will no longer finance the second degree programme. The consequence is that students wishing to pursue a second master, after already having completed one subsidised programme, will then have to pay a higher tuition fee. This rule only concerns subsidised masters done in the Netherlands. The Double Degree programme exists out of 2 components; the 1-year home degree and a 1 year abroad. The Dutch government does not look at studies done abroad. So this new legislation will not be applicable for the Double Degree programme. Concerning the longer duration of study ( langstudeerdersboete ) Students will be entitled to a limited time to complete their studies at the subsidised low tuition fee of 1,713. This entitlement is the nominal duration plus one year. If you study longer you will be fined with a supplement of 3,000 per year in addition to your tuition fee. The Double Degree programme is not registered with the Dutch government as a 2-year programme. It consists of 2 complete separate masters, that will lead to 2 different degrees. During the whole time you will be registered at the Erasmus University. When that registration exceeds 2 years (the nominal 1 year + 1 year), students will be subject to the fine. At the time this brochure was made, it was unclear how and when these rules will be applied. Inform yourself well, the ESSC will have more information. Visa & Insurance Before and during your stay abroad you are responsible for your own visa arrangements, if applicable. You are also responsible for e.g. third-party and medical insurances. Academic workload The minimum workload of the DM² is 120 ECTS. In all cases, the study package should contain enough credits to comprise a full workload equivalent to both DM² university requirements in order to obtain two fully recognised Master degrees. No credits will be given for language or culture courses taken abroad. Some degrees require an internship, inform yourself well by the partner school about the criteria (duration, location, timing, level of internship). Individual Study Programme Proposal All DM² students will have to make their own individual study plan. Therefore, no general DM² study programme overview can be given. All applicants should carefully investigate which 2 master programmes (at RSM and the partner school) they would like to choose. Most Master combinations are possible, though some programmes or courses do not fit content wise. In the application, each student should motivate why he/she chooses a certain combination. It is NOT possible to combine similar programmes, for instance Marketing Management at RSM Erasmus University and the Marketing master at ESADE. This proposal should be handed in at the Programme Manager with their application. The selection committee of RSM decides whether the chosen Master course combination is possible. The partner university will need to approve the study programme proposal as well. Note: Be aware that you can apply for only one of these programmes during one academic year: Master Exchange Programme MSc International Management/CEMS Double Master s Degree in Management programme 3

3. Application and selection procedure Selection criteria When preparing your application for the Double Degree programme for 2013-2015, make sure you have the latest version of this brochure. You can find the release date of this version on the cover page of these guidelines. At starting time of DM2 programme (September 2013): Completed the full bachelor programme, including the minor and the bachelor thesis. 2. Study results and progress Both RSM Erasmus University and its partners require the best qualified students. You are eligible to apply for the DM² Programme when your minimum average weighted Bachelor grade is 7.0. Another important factor is the pace at which you have gone through your studies. 3. Master programme Only students who start with Entrepreneurship, Marketing Management, Strategic Management, MSc in Finance & Investments or MSc in Supply Chain Management in September 2013 are eligible for the DM² Programme. 4. Language proficiency All applicants for the DM² Programme must show proof of the required language level. Check for the required level the chapter with information about each partner school. The language levels are according to the Common European Framework. Language certificates should be no older than 2 years at the time of application. On the application form, you are asked to fill in a partner school, and also a second choice partner school. If you are not selected for your first school and want to be considered for the second school, you must meet the language requirements of the second school at the time of application. You are exempted from an English, German, Spanish or Italian test if: - the language concerned is your native language; - the language concerned was your first language of secondary education; - you are a student from International Business Administration (concerning English) 5. Motivation Your letter of application (max 1 page) should comprise: - Motivation for applying for DM2 and the preferred DM² partner school; - Why we should select you for this programme and send you to that particular DM² partner school and not somebody else; - Explanation on how the two Master Programmes match; - Your thoughts about a possible thesis subject related to the DM² programme; 6. Individual study plan The individual study plan describes the chosen master at RSM, the master at the partner school, why it is a good combination and a possible topic for the combined thesis. 7. Other important criteria - Sidelines: important and responsible job(s) and/or student association activities, voluntary jobs, activities in sports clubs, debating societies, and so on. - Profile: are you mature, independent, can you adapt yourself easily, do you show responsibility? - International orientation: are you open-minded and internationally orientated? 9

Selection procedure The application and selection procedure consists of the following steps: 1. Preparation before Application - Read this brochure carefully; - Consult the Student Adviser if you are not sure whether participation is feasible to you; - Go through the websites of the DM² partner schools for information on the schools, the study programmes and courses on offer; - Visit the Reading Room for hard copies of study programmes of each partner school as well as for study reports of former RSM exchange students; 2. Available Double Degree slots - RSM Erasmus University offers around 15 MSc students from RSM Erasmus University the possibility to obtain two Master Degrees; - Each DM² partner school has a maximum number of RSM students they can admit, check the concerning chapter. 3. Application & Deadline - Submit an application form with the required attachments in duplicate. Download the form here: http://www.rsm.nl/rsm-international-new/rsm-outgoing/double-master-degree-in-management/ - Deadline for application is 31 January 2013, at the Programme Manager in room T5-15. - Fill in the school of your first choice, and the master programme. Indicate an alternative master programme at this school. We also ask for an alternative school, just in case the school of your first choice has got too many applicants. Be aware that if you want to be eligible for this second school, you will have to meet the language requirements at the time of application. 4. Selection on paper - The initial selection is based on your application. Candidates who do not make it to the selection interviews are notified by email in February 2013. 5. Selection interviews - The remaining candidates are invited for personal interviews of around 20 minutes with the Selection Committee in February 2013 (in week 6 and 7). The committee consists of the Executive Director MSc Programmes and the Programme Manager of DM². - A maximum of 20 interviews will be conducted. If there are more than 20 candidates, the 20 students with the highest GPA will be invited. - The students are notified at their student e-mail address about the date and time of the interview. Topic of conversation will be your motivation for the preferred partner university, your interest in the destination, the chosen master programmes and the individual DM² study programme proposal. 6. Announcement - The selection committee will decide which students she deems fit for the Double Degree programme. A very important factor is the GPA, in addition to extracurricular activities and the motivation shown during the interview. Within 3 weeks after the last interview the Programme Manager will inform all applicants about the outcome and which students have been selected for what destination. - If selected, conditions could still be established for affirmative selections, (completion of the bachelor programme, supplementary language courses/exams, GRE scores, etc). 7. Selected Candidates - Applicants who have been selected for the Double Degree programme, will be contacted per email. After the RSM selection round, the files of the selected students will be send to the partner universities. After the confirmation of the partner schools, students are officially Double Degree students. - Applicants who are not selected for the Double Degree programme will be able to sign up for the 2 nd selection round of the regular International Exchange Programme. Students, however, who are selected to the programme but decline the offer, can no longer participate in the regular International Exchange Programme. 10

4. Before departure Nomination at host university As soon as you have confirmed your participation through the Statement of Acceptance in the DM² Programme, the Programme Manager sends out your nomination to the partner university. The partner university has a final saying in your acceptance. They will have a look at your application and hopefully confirm your admission. From that moment on you can send all your questions directly to the contact person of that university. Completion of application forms, taking care of accommodation, sticking to the deadlines, etc is your own responsibility. Update your student file - Until the programme abroad starts all selected students should update their personal student file (at the Programme Manager) with grades and language test results obtained after the selection round. - One month prior to your departure the Programme Manager checks your file and checks whether you have fulfilled all selection criteria. - Not completing your Bachelor programme or missing language tests/courses will lead to the cancellation of your participation. Cancellation of exchange: cancellation fee! Being selected for an academic period abroad means that a student is aware of his/her rights and duties which participation in the DM² Programme implies. Report any cancellation to Programme Manager! It can happen that due to illness, poor study results or unforeseen circumstances a student cannot participate in the DM² Programme any longer. If such situation occurs, please inform (both in word and writing) the Programme Manager DM² at RSM at the earliest possible moment. If you are already present at the partner university for your time abroad, also contact the coordinator there. Cancellation fee The exchange of students is an expensive affair and time-consuming process at both the home and host university. A student will be charged with a cancellation fee of 250 if he/she cancels the participation in the DM² Programme after the acceptance of the programme offer. Students who cancel their exchange period less than one month before the start of the programme are also deemed liable for any other financial consequences for RSM Erasmus University, except in cases when it is a question of demonstrable unforeseen circumstances. Erasmus Student Services Centre The Erasmus Students Service Centre (ESSC) can be of help to you when: - subletting your room during your exchange; - applying for scholarships, grants or funds; - getting a reimbursement for your OV student card; - registering for a language test or course; - you need information on practical matters concerning an academic period abroad. Check here for more information: www.eur.nl/english/essc Reducing costs of exchange A study period abroad always involves additional costs. The following information may be of help to you in reducing your extra costs. Subletting your room during your exchange A successful solution to reduce your costs is to sublet your room during your exchange period abroad. Forms to sublet your room in Rotterdam to an international student (preferably a visiting student for our programmes) are available at the Erasmus Student Services Centre (ESSC, hall of E-building). Student grants and loans & Reimbursement of OV student card Dutch students continue to receive student grants and loans while abroad. Students who receive a student grant from the IB-Group and who take components of their Dutch university studies abroad 11

are entitled to receive money instead of their OV student card, approximately 80 per month. Travelling before or after your exchange programme is not calculated in this period. To receive timely reimbursement you should submit your request to the IB-Group two months before departure. Request forms are available at the ESSC. http://www.ib-groep.nl/particulier, and click for Studiefinanciering in het buitenland (only Dutch). Life Long Learning Programme (former Socrates/Erasmus programme) Please inform yourself about eligibility for the LLL grant. A.A. van Beek Fund scholarship All students who have been enrolled at the Erasmus University Rotterdam for at least 2 years can apply for this scholarship. All information on this scholarship is posted on: http://www.eur.nl/eur/fondsen/vanbeek_fonds The Programme Manager s letter of confirmation, which is sent to you after selection, can serve as proof that your exchange period counts towards your degree at RSM Erasmus University. Find more grants and scholarships (Nuffic) The websites www.nuffic.nl/nederlandse-studenten/studiebeurs and www.beursopener.nl of the Nuffic (Netherlands organisation for international cooperation in higher education) is meant for students, researchers and staff who are looking for grants, scholarships and funds for a study, work placement or research abroad. The International Student Identity Card The ISIC is the International Student Identity Card, which is the only internationally recognised proof of identity for full-time students. It gives you access to more than 28.000 worldwide benefit and discounts on for example plane and railway tickets and museums. The ISIC can be bought at the ESSC for 10; you need a copy of your identity card (driver s license, passport), a copy of your student card or proof of registration as full-time student and a passport photo with your name at the back. It takes about 3 to 4 working days before you can pick up the card at the ESSC. 12
