1 Entrance Requirements for the RSM master programme Finance & Investments as of September 2015 MSc Programme Management Version: 21 October 2014 This information is relevant for internal RSM students only RSM s MSc in Finance & Investments (MScFI) is selective for internal 1 students since September Students need to have a completed bachelor degree or pre-master as well as a weighted grade point average (GPA) of 7,0 or higher OR a GMAT score of 600 or higher. Please note that pre-master students will qualify by definition, as a GMAT of 600 or higher is a compulsory part of the MSc admissions requirements for pre-master students. This step is part of a comprehensive RSM strategy to increase the quality of its MSc portfolio. The selection of students is one element in this strategy. An increasing number of talented students with bachelors obtained outside RSM are applying for our MSc programmes. We select these external students, who come from all over the world, on the basis of BOTH their GPA (7,0 or higher) and the GMAT (600 or higher). In the future we aim to create a level playing field between internal and external students for all our MSc programmes and in order to achieve that aim we begin with a selective MScFI. Students will need to apply for the MScFI before 1 May 2015 and this day will also be the reference day for determining the GPA. We shall use all results for successfully completed courses from the bachelor curriculum which are registered in Osiris by 1 May The results from the trimester 9 and any resits after 1 May will not be included in the GPA calculation. We ve set this deadline relatively early to allow for processing the applications, but also to be able to provide students with early guarantees about access and to allow for time to apply for alternative programmes. In addition there will be time to study for the GMAT test in case students do not qualify on the basis of GPA. 2 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS SELECTIVE PROGRAMME Why is the MSc Finance & Investments becoming selective? The MScFI is becoming selective as part of a comprehensive strategy to increase the quality of our MSc portfolio. Selection of the most qualified students is one element in this strategy. Our MSc programmes are attracting increasing numbers of students from all over the world. We currently select external students who must qualify with BOTH a GPA 7,0 or higher and a GMAT of 600 or higher. Internal students, on the other hand, currently only need a completed bachelor degree without further requirements. We want to move towards the creation of a level playing field between external and internal students. The MScFI is a logical place to start as it is a very popular programme that attracts many external and internal students. Will other MSc programmes become selective too? Not in September 2015, but it is likely that in the future other MSc programmes will also become selective. There is yet no timeline established for this, nor have any decisions been taken. You are advised to be prepared for this scenario. Please note that the MSc International Management CEMS already uses selective criteria and will continue to do so. REQUIREMENTS What do I need in order to qualify for the MScFI? You need a completed BScBA, BScIBA or premaster (before 1 September 2015). In addition you need a GPA of 7,0 or higher for the results which are registered in Osiris by 1 May 2015 based on a minimum of 140 ECTS. The results from the trimester 9 and any resits after 1 May will not be included in the GPA calculation. If you do not meet this GPA criterion you may submit a GMAT score of 600 or higher. So you need either a GPA of 7,0 or higher OR GMAT of 600 or higher If you took a gap year please refer to the FAQ section Students with a gap year. I am a pre-master student. Do I have to meet the same requirements as RSM bachelor students? Yes, you do. However, as part of your pre-master programme, you will need to obtain a GMAT of 600 or higher in order to be granted admission to the RSM MSc programmes. Thus, by finishing your premaster curriculum requirements and meeting the MSc admissions requirements (the MSc compulsory course for the MScFI which is Corporate Finance, GMAT score of 600 or higher, and proof of English proficiency for students from the Dutch-language pre-master programme), you automatically qualify for entry into the MScFI.

3 Is there a maximum number of internal students that can be admitted? No, when you meet the criteria you automatically will be accepted into the programme. There is only a maximum number of places for external students. What options do I have if I fail to meet the criteria? There are a number of options if you do not qualify: - Choose one of 10 other MSc programmes at RSM; - Choose a finance master at another university in The Netherlands or abroad; - Take a gap year and obtain a GMAT of 600 or greater during that year. Can I also enter the programme in January? No, the January intake for the MScFI is abolished. Two intake moments are difficult to harmonize with a selection process. In addition, external students have never had the opportunity to start in January. It is also better for students to begin with core courses rather than electives. For these reasons the MSc in Finance & Investments will only accept students in September, at the start of the Academic Year. REGISTRATION FOR THE MSC FINANCE & INVESTMENTS When & where can I register for the MSc Finance & Investments programme? All bachelor and pre-master students who wish to begin the MScFI per 1 September 2015 will have to register via SIN-Online. The registration will take place on the SIN-Online channel Enrollment MSc Finance & Investments. Please note that you must complete all the following steps to register for the MScFI: Action Deadline 1) Subscribe to the 'Enrollment MSc Finance & 20 October 2014 through 30 April 2015 Investments' channel on SIN-Online 2) Go to My Registrations, choose MSc Finance & 1 March 8:30hrs until 30 April 23:59hrs Investments and click on Save Changes (CET) You will receive a confirmation of your registration. 3) Enrol for the MScFI via Studielink By 31 August 2015 What if I forgot to register via SIN-Online by 1 May 2015, can I still apply? Yes, you can still register for the MScFI by sending an to msc.fi@rsm.nl by 10 July However, please note that if you register after 1 May 2015 you cannot be admitted on the basis of your GPA. You must do the GMAT test in order to qualify. For more information about the GMAT test, please refer to the FAQ section GMAT test.

4 GPA When will you calculate my GPA? Your GPA on 1 May 2015 will determine whether or not you qualify for entry into the MScFI (only for bachelor students, not for pre-master students). In order to calculate this GPA you need to have obtained a minimum of 140 ECTS on 1 May. The reason for not using your final GPA is that your final GPA becomes available too late to be able to process your application in a timely fashion. In addition we would like to provide students with certainty about admission at a relatively early stage so alternative programmes can be considered and applied for and, if necessary, students can take a GMAT test. What if I have a GPA of 6.95 on 1 May? Will it be registered as a 7.0? Yes, the GPA is rounded to one decimal place. If your GPA is 6.95 it will be registered as a 7.0 in Osiris. Please note that 6.94 will be registered as a 6.9 and is not sufficient to be admitted to the MScFI programme. What if I have more than 140 ECTS on 1 May? May I choose which results to be counted for GPA? No, if you have more than 140 ECTS on 1 May all results which are registered in Osiris will be counted for your GPA. Does internship or minor count for the required amount of 140 ECTS and GPA? It depends from your activities for the Bachelor 3 elective area. 1) If you did an internship/minor and you did not participate in an exchange programme, then these credits do count for the required amount of 140 ECTS and GPA. 2) If you did an internship/minor and exchange as well, then only the exchange credits will count for the required amount of 140 ECTS. In this case the results of the internship or minor will be registered as other results and will not be taken into account for GPA calculations. Does the results from my exchange programme count for the required amount of 140 ECTS and GPA? Yes, the results from the international exchange programme count for the required amount of ECTS. As these results are registered as Pass or Fail, they have no influence on your GPA. What if I do not have 140 ECTS on 1 May? You cannot be admitted on the basis of your GPA. You must do the GMAT test in order to qualify.

5 What if I achieve a GPA of 7,0 or greater after 1 May 2015? Can I start the MScFI? Yes, but only with a sufficient GMAT result. We cannot admit you on the basis of your GPA. The reference date is 1 May 2015 when GPA is calculated based on the results registered by this date. You may choose to do a GMAT test before 15 July. If you achieve a GMAT result of 600 or higher, you may start the MScFI. Or, you may opt to come back the year after, in which case your GPA on 1 May of that year will be your final GPA. Will I receive a confirmation about my GPA? Once your GPA result is registered you will receive an from the Examination Board confirming your GPA and whether your result is sufficient for entry to the MScFI programme. Please note that in addition to a sufficient GPA (7.0 or higher) you must have a completed the BScBA, BScIBA or premaster before 1 September to be admitted to the MScFI programme. You will be informed by the Examination Board by 15 May GMAT TEST What is the GMAT test? GMAT stands for Graduate Management Admission Test. This standardized computer-based test is developed by and for business schools through the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC). It is designed specifically to test the capabilities of students pursuing graduate education in business or management. The test can be taken at test centres all over the world, throughout the year. In The Netherlands there are test centres in Amsterdam and Utrecht. The test costs USD 250. There is an abundance of preparation material available, both online, offline and course based. Please visit for further information. Which parts of the GMAT should I do? The GMAT test consists of four parts: a quantitative section, a verbal section, an integrated reasoning section and an analytical writing section. Although you will need to sit through all sections, we will only count your scores on the quantitative section and the verbal section. Be sure to do the GMAT test before 15 July Where do I have to submit the GMAT score? After the GMAT test you will receive a provisional test result. Be sure to inform the Examination Board via about your result.

6 STUDENTS WITH A GAP YEAR I am taking or will take a gap year after my bachelor. How will this affect me? You will have to meet the same admission criteria as all other internal students. If you already have a completed bachelor degree on 1 May, we shall be able to use your final bachelor GPA. If your GPA is insufficient you may opt to do a GMAT test.
