Applications of COASOL TM in coatings COASOL TM is used as coalescing agent in water based coatings. Characteristic criteria for the use of COASOL TM are: COASOL TM is used in floor lacquers, coatings for concrete surfaces and other coatings where high performance is needed. The amount used is normally 2 5 % of the binder calculated as solid. Non VOC (Vapour pressure < 0.01 kpa at 20 C) Low odour Meets Ecolabel regulation Extended open time Hydrolytically stable Better scrub resistance due to more complete coalescence of hard polymers and less affinity to water than other coalescence agents Better water resistance of the dried coating Lower MFFT with VA polymers Typical paint formulation % w/w Water 27 Acrylic dispersion ( 50 % acrylic) 44 Pigment / TiO 2 / CaCO 3 24 COASOL TM 0.5 Additives (Fungicide, dispersants, 4.5 de-foamers, thickeners) MFFT curve for UCAR DL 450 MFFT ( C) 20 18 16 14 12 10 8 6 4 2 0 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 Coalescent concentration (% w/w on binder solid) Pentanediol ester Benzoic acid ester COASOL TM ESTASOL TM MFFT curve for Primal AC 261 MFFT ( C) 20 18 16 14 12 10 8 6 4 2 0 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 Pentanediol ester Coalescent concentration (% w/w on binder solid) Benzoic acid ester COASOL TM ESTASOL TM
Applicatio ns in the industrial cleaners & polymer industry COASOL TM is used as a low toxicity solvent in a range of industrial cleaner & polymer applications due to the following key properties: Dissolves most resins Blends with Hydrocarbons Blends with Terpenes and d-limonene Does not contain chlorinated compounds High solvency power for polar and non polar soils Non VOC COASO TM L is miscible with most commonly used solvents including: Alcohols Glycol Ethers Esters Terpenes Hydrocarbons Chlorinated Solvents Glycol Ether Acetates Ketones. COASOL TM can also be applied in emulsified products due to the good hydrolytic stability.
