Welcome to the University of Eastern Piedmont!
The University Past and Present The very first University in Piedmont was settled in Vercelli in 1228. It was the seventh University settled in Italy. It was closed in the middle of the 14th century. The University Amedeo Avogadro, formerly part of the University of Turin, was established as an autonomous institution in 1998.
Who was Avogadro? Amedeo Avogadro di Quaregna e Cerreto descended from a noble and famous Guelph family of Vercelli. Between 1809 and 1819 he was professor of Physics and Mathematics at the Royal College of Vercelli. In 1820, when the very first chair of Mathematical Physics in Italy was established at the University of Turin, Avogadro was appointed there.
