Getting The Most From Your V-SOLE Wedges

Congratulations. We appreciate your decision to trust your short game to EIDOLON V-SOLE wedges, and we re confident this is a big step to lowering your scores. Because this new technology is unlike anything you ve ever seen from any major brand of wedges, you ll see and feel a difference from the very first shot. The patented V-SOLE literally glides through the turf or sand, and delivers more spin to your scoring shots than you are used to. You ll quickly find that you can handle tough lies and hit more accurate recovery shots from the first time you play them. So, let s get down to the details of how to get the most from your V-SOLE wedges from the minute you open the box. 1

EIDOLON V-SOLE Technology Other wedge soles don t look like this... so they can t work like this, either. Wedges have really been mostly unchanged for 40 years. With all the hundreds of models in the golf shop displays, the only real difference is the amount of bounce the sole of the wedge has built into it. So, golfers have always had to make a high bounce/low bounce choice, and decide in the store exactly what wedge you were going to need for any given shot on the course. That s kind of absurd when you think about it. And, that s why the V-SOLE is going to work so well for you. But before we get into the details of how the V-SOLE works, let s make sure you really understand what bounce is and how and why it works. 2

A primer on bounce. What makes a wedge a wedge is the configuration of the sole the design into it of a feature called bounce. This idea is generally credited to Gene Sarazen, who welded up the sole of a niblick and found that it made bunker recoveries extremely easy, compared to the method that had to be employed with the tools of the 1930s. What he did was create a downward angle from the leading edge backward to the rear of the sole, so that the bottom of the club acted like an airplane wing, providing lift upon contact with the sand, and making the club want to just splash the surface and come out of the sand easily. Very simply, the term bounce defines the exact downward angle from the leading edge of the face to the rear edge of the sole, and is measured in degrees, which defines the amount of slope in comparison to the horizontal plane(the turf). 3

What the industry generally calls high bounce wedges typically have an angle of 12-15 degrees, which makes them functional from sand, rough and softer turf conditions, because they provide greater lift. However, on a shot from a tighter lie, a high bounce wedge tends to skip into the belly of the ball. As fairways became more closely mowed and top players developed their skills to extraordinary levels, wedge makers began to offer a selection of low bounce wedges which typically have 7-8 degrees of bounce or less, reducing the amount of this lifting assistance. While this design makes these wedges play better from close-cut fairways, firm turf and other tight lies, only an extremely skilled player can fair well with them from bunkers, rough and softer turf. A low bounce wedge will dig deep if you forward press the shaft a little, as this removes all remaining bounce effect. As the industry began to proliferate a vast array of wedge lofts and bounce angles, they came up with a general guide to help golfers through the myriad of options. 4 It became the common recommendation that you should choose high bounce wedges if you play softer turf and a low bounce wedge if your course is firmer. But doesn t this assume that we all only play one course and it never rains? And don t they realize that every course has places where the turf is firmer than others?

Then they make it even more confusing when you re told that you should choose higher bounce wedges if you have a steep angle of attack and a lower bounce if you have a shallow angle of attack. Obviously they don t realize that you vary your attack angle to the ball depending on the shot you re trying to execute. And then, as if confuse us even further, the industry offers tour bounce wedges. These highly specialized tools are specifically designed for the extraordinary skills of tour players, who practice with their wedges 15-20 hours per week, who play extremely tight and manicured fairways and bunkers that are kept consistently firm so the pros can hit these amazing shots. If you don t have the short game skills of Tiger or Phil, you really should stay away from these clubs. Well, we thought all this was way too confusing for the average golfer, even those with good amateur skill levels, so we came up with a better technology... The Patented V-SOLE You are about to experience a totally innovative concept that makes wedge play easier than it s ever been. You ll quickly find that this innovative technology allows the same wedge that got you out of the bunker on #4 to be perfect from the tight lie on #8, the rough on #11... fairway, hardpan... just about any lie your ball can find. No other wedges are designed like this we own the U.S. Patent, so no other wedges can compare to the V-SOLE line-up for versatile playability. 5

How the V-SOLE works. There s no question that a low bounce sole is good when the ball is sitting down in a tight lie, or when playing very firm turf. But a high bounce is the better option when you are in a bunker, fluffy rough or softer turf. So EIDOLON developed the only suitable answer build both high and low bounce into the same wedge. The V-SOLE wedge sole design is as comfortable with a shot from hardpan as one in the bunker. It s a sole that glides through any kind of turf without digging in, but one that never skips into the ball when it is sitting tight. It will not take you long to realize that this is a development in golf club design that ranks right up there with metal woods and cavity back irons. 6

What our patented V-SOLE technology actually does is combine two distinct bounce angles in the same wedge, so that you have just the right bounce all the time! Take a close look at the sole of your new EIDOLON wedge and you ll see a little ridge in that runs from toe to heel, about a quarter inch behind the leading edge. The main part of the sole from this ridge to the rear has what would be considered a low bounce, so that you can get down into the shot from the tightest of lies. But then look closely at the leading ¼ or so of the sole and you ll see a very aggressive bounce angle from this little ridge to the leading edge. What this does for your short game is practically magical. It ensures that the leading edge can never dig in to the turf too deeply when you are playing softer ground conditions. On short pitches and chips it allows the sole to spread the grass, rather than tear or dig it, so that you can more accurately manage your clubhead speed through impact on these touch shots. From a bunker, it combines with the trailing part of the sole so that you can open the face to dial in just the right amount of bounce you need for that particular shot. And it allows you to be more creative than you ve ever been with your short game, which translates to strokes saved and lower scores. 7

The Orientation You don t have to learn any new swing technique or thoughts to get the most from your new V-SOLE wedge, but we do want to try to prepare you for the different feel you re going to experience as you play it from fairway to rough, bunkers to hardpan, and hopefully give you some tips that will help you take even more strokes from your scores as you get familiar with this innovative scoring technology. Your first time out, we suggest you start by hitting some very short pitches and chips. The slower clubhead speed will allow you to feel and appreciate how the V-SOLE handles various kinds of turf. Hit some short shots from thicker grass, tight lies, normal fairway cut and really concentrate on how the sole of the wedge just seems to glide under the ball without digging. On these short shots, try to keep your hands very quiet and let the arms just swing back and through in sync with a rotation of your 8

upper body. Don t try to restrict your body motion, but let yourself feel like you are making a one piece swing, with body, arms and hands all moving together. Another great tip for all your short shots is to focus on the slight forward angle of the shaft at address and try to duplicate that angle as you come through the impact area. One of the most common and damaging errors in the short game is to flip the clubhead at the ball with your hands, which usually ends up in skulling it across the green or laying the sod over on top of it. GETTING THE MOST FROM YOUR V-SOLE WEDGE And finally, one of our favorite tips for crisp scoring shots is to focus your vision acutely on the forward edge of the ball the side toward the target rather than the back of the ball or just the ball in general. This will help you make really sharp contact a higher percentage of the time. 9

Bunker Play You ll quickly find that the same technology that works so well on your chipping and pitching gives you a bunker club that can handle any kind of sand you might encounter. We amateurs don t play the carefully manicured and consistent bunkers the tour players enjoy. Every bunker we enter can be radically different from the one before soft, firm, dry, wet.... It makes them real hazards for us, where the tour players often aim for them on purpose. But now you have a wedge that can handle any kind of sand. The two bounce angles are always working together to allow you to dial in just the playability you need. Firm sand? Just open the face very slightly, pick out a spot behind the ball and swing easy. Soft sand? Open the face more and do the same. Plugged lie? Just square the face and make a more downward swing toward the spot you picked out behind the ball. 10

You ll quickly find that the V-SOLE practically loves the sand and gives you many more options. And if you purchased more than one V-SOLE wedge, you ll find that all four are excellent bunker clubs. Facing a very short little delicate shot where you want more spin go for the 60* Lob Wedge. A long bunker shot where you d like to not have to swing as hard? Both the Pitching and Gap Wedges are right at home with these. Just open the face 15-20 degrees and hit it like any other bunker shot. The ball will come out lower with more oomph and run out a little more than with the Sand or Lob wedge. 11

Full Wedge Shots For these, the patented V-SOLE will be at your fingertips to handle any kind of turf you might encounter. Tight fairway lie? Don t worry. Heavy rough? You ve never seen a wedge handle it this well. Just spend a little time hitting various shots from various turf conditions and you ll see what we mean. The result of this special treatment is that you get the maximum spin allowed by the Rules of Golf. And that will translate to chips and pitches that stop closer to the hole... shorter putts... and more birdies and pars. 14
