2011-2012 FEATURES FACTORY WITH QUALITY CERTIFICATION ISO 9001:2008 Thanks to CVL ability to design and the development in mechanical engineering, CVL was able to develop a particular technology, completely different from standard building techniques of building plywood shells for drums. If the conventional technologies obtain cylinders that have material discontinuity, with CVL s technology the cylinder has a good uniformity, with a lower concentration of tensions training of the cylinder, which allows CVL to avoid ovalization of the shell. CVL s technology uses only the best sheets of wood forming all the cylinder, with specific directions, according to conformation of the wood veneer. Shells made in this way are very close to the ideal uniformity of shell (as solid wood) and this could explain their particular sounds of CVL. Wood belongs to the same stock and supply and it is marked to recognize its characteristics in each moment. CVL technology allows to build any diameter of the shell, even different thicknesses. Thanks to 30 years of experience in wood and its product range, CVL shells have successfully passed all tests as aging tests, high temperatures tests (inside a wave at 105 C for 500 hours) to ensure the customer an high standard of quality.. CVL also made specific recording and research in the field of audiometric engineer on its drum kits. Thanks to a sound engineer, CVL recorded the power and harmonic sounds of all drum kits made by different woods. All drums, made by different types of wood, have the characteristic of a great attack with a well-defined and wellbalanced sound, using different tunings of heads, more or less tighten, retaining a considerable power. So, you can change the sound range while maintaining a clear sound without losing the tuning or sound timber. Audiometric tests have measured a significant wealth of harmonics, resulting from both a percussive intensity of media and strong beat. 2011-2012 TYPE OF WOOD European ash The ash wood has a straight grain with a texture from a medium to a coarse. It offers an excellent qualities of strength. Its specific weight is heavier than the birch. A drum kit with this wood has the same characteristics of the birch, but more powerful and it is great on live performances. European birch The birch wood is a medium weight, strong, tough and elastic. A drum kit made by birch is very well suited for recording studios, schools and in all situations where you need a controlled sound. A type of wood with a good price. CVL birch sounds different from other birch in drum market, due to a innovative building process. Maple The maple wood comes with straight and compact grain. It isn t a heavy wood, its specific weight is less than birch and it presents a good strength and elasticity. A drum kit made by maple can be use into different musical performances, from jazz to metal rock, thanks to the great range of frequencies that it produces. Maple is the choice of those who claim a good attack and volume. African mahogany The mahogany is a hard, medium-heavy wood with a fine texture and wavy grain, it has a high elasticity. A mahogany drum kit gives a very good attack, a well-defined note with warm sound, rich in low frequency average. Thanks to its characteristic of elasticity and the wood fiber, the mahogany is full of harmonics, more than other types of wood used by CVL. If we can summarize in few words mahogany characteristics: it makes double sound and power. Chestnut The chestnut is a medium heavy wood, its texture is similar to oak wood, but it not present wood window pane. The chestnut, as well as the oak, is used for wine staves and for the extraction of tannin. The chestnut specific weight is placed between the Maple and the Bubinga. The chestnut choice comes from a CVL s research to find a warmer sound than the maple one, with the same power and well-defined sound but with bass timbers more stronger. It has a fine-grained, less porous, uniform texture and straight thread. Its specific weight is the highest compared to five other wooden essences used by CVL. A Bubinga drum kit gives the top of timbers, as woods described above, but it gives more to the sound thanks to lower frequencies with a warmer sound, with an attack always well-defined and maximum flexibility in playing.
