8 SCHOOL BUILDINGS SCHOOL BUILDINGS AND CLASSROOMS BUILT WITH CHILDREN IN MIND With the growing number of pupils the demand for more school space is high. Our timber frame buildings provide a cost effective and attractive alternative to a porta cabin. The environment in a porta cabin is often cold compared to the ambience in a wood building which creates warmth and great acoustics for children. The Nordic Room would be adapted for schools for all year round use and comply with UK Buildings Regulations.

9 LARGER BUILDINGS BEING A HOME, MARINA, LEISURE HOME, SPORTS PAVILION, CLUBHOUSE, OR ANY TYPE OF BUILDING WE CAN ACCOMMODATE YOUR REQUIREMENT A timber frame is constructed by layering wood panels and a number of membranes and insulation onto a timber frame, to create a wall satisfying the UK building standards. 10 EXTENSIONS A COST EFFECTIVE ALTERNATIVE TO A BRICK EXTENSION If it is more internal house space you are after rather than garden space we can use the same building technology to add a lovely extension to your house. If a wood finish is not the best option we can brick render the outside to match the existing house. Perhaps our standard internal wood panel isn t your bag? You tell us what you like - the alternatives are vast! Our Nordic Room Extension would be signed off by Building Control and comply with UK Buildings Regulations.

11 NORDIC WOOD & THE ENVIRONMENT Over 70% of people in the developed world live in timber frame homes. In North America timber frame accounts for 90% of all low-rise housing. Timber frame is the most popular form of building construction in Scandinavia ECO FRIENDLY Timber Frame is a prefabricated construction method, it is faster than conventional bricks and mortar and also more eco friendly. Timber frame homes offer good acoustics, energy efficiency, and are warmer. Wood is reportedly the most energyefficient of all construction materials. Five hundred kilowatt hours are needed to produce a single cubic metre of steel, 200 kwh are needed for concrete, but only 30 kwh are used for timber. We produce the timber frames in structurally certified timber. Internal panels and floors come from a leading Swedish wood supplier. Our A-rated top quality energy windows and doors are designed and produced in Denmark for the residential market and subject to the DVC (Danish Window Certification). The solid wood windows are approved under the new statutory 2008 insulation requirements, and come with a 5 /10 year warranty. ENERGY EFFICIENT Wood houses use less fuel as the wood is an insulator, absorbing and slowly releasing the heat produced by energy efficient heating systems. This means that the main heating system only needs to be used for shorter periods. SUSTAINABLE FOREST AND THE WOODS NATURAL CYCLE Wood is the only naturally renewable building material, and the cycle of growth has an added benefit. When a young forest is growing, it produces 1.07 tons of oxygen and absorbs 1.47 tons of carbon dioxide for every ton of wood. When a forest matures this process reduces. Harvesting a mature forest locks in the carbon and planting of new trees increase the process of producing oxygen and absorbing carbon dioxide again. E.g - A 220 sq. metre timber frame house has about 28.5 tons of stored carbon dioxide which is about the same as a 7 year emission of a small family car.
