Application Services Branch - HNU73 (1) Develops, implements and supports general-purpose software tools needed to facilitate DCSS services; (2) coordinates, configures and manages tools and COTS applications that are hosted on DCSS servers and provide value-added services to the NIH community; (3) plans, implements, supports, and manages NIH and HHS primary web sites and enterprise search engines; (4) provides customer support to ensure services meet customer expectations; (5) schedules, manages, and implements video conferencing, web conferencing, and video streaming solutions; (6) manages data center co-location services that provide a secure, reliable, climate controlled environment for housing customer-owned servers at either on-campus or off-campus locations providing continuity of operations for NIH and HHS customers; and (7) provides technical writing services and coordinates and manages the development and publication of a variety of manuals, user guides, standard procedures and processes and articles.

Biomedical Imaging and Visualization Section - HNU264 (1) Develops unique high resolution, monochrome and color image manipulation and display systems, utilizing modern imaging technologies, commercial hardware, and both commercial and custom software components; (2) creates novel 3D display environments incorporating state-ofthe-art human/computer interfaces, including the non-traditional pointing and control technologies; (3) implements sophisticated medical image processing methodologies for the analysis and interpretation of MRI, CT, Ultrasound, Microscopic, EENT Video, and other medical imaging modalities; (4) engages in collaborative functional and structural imaging studies in conjunction with NIH research staff; and (5) supports clinical image processing, analysis and display collaborations.

Biomedical Imaging Research Services Section - HNU242 (1) Develops advanced image processing and visualization applications that are comprehensive, extensible, and platform-independent; (2) implements known solutions, algorithms, or methods to quickly and efficiently meet the biomedical imaging needs of collaborators; (3) develops and applies novel applications and algorithms to biomedical images that range from the entire body to the micro level including clinical, animal, and laboratory images; and (4) collaborates with NIH intramural researchers to share computing methods and technologies for the development of novel imaging methodologies.

Cable Management Branch - HNU42 (1) Manages the cable plant facilities and the physical environment of the communications infrastructure in over 100 NIH owned and leased facilities; (2) collaborates with application developers to design general-purpose software tools that provide end user interfaces to the cable database system; and (3) provides direct end user support for cable database questions and concerns.

Call Center Services Section - HNU434 (1) Provides 24x7 signal page and information locator service to the public and the NIH community to include updating locator records for the E911 Emergency System database, and the management of services for security access, blue light emergency and red phone systems; (2) publishes the NIH directory; (3) provides 24x7 operator services for the NIH maintenance facilities and elevator service; (4) provides operator services for NIH patient recruitment; and (5) provides land mobile radio and pager service for the NIH.

Center for Information Technology- HNU (1) Provides leadership for the determination of NIH computational and telecommunications needs at all levels and oversees the development of appropriate infrastructure support to meet identified needs; (2) develops, operates, and maintains a state-of-the-art regional computer facility and provides overall guidance based on legislation and policy that is responsive to the NIH mission; (3) establishes and operates the necessary organization and infrastructure to assure appropriate security, connectivity, and inter-operability across the NIH Institutes and Centers (ICs), off-campus locations, and remote access; (4) collaborates on, and provides for, research activities in the computational biosciences and statistics; (5) develops, administers, and manages NIH systems, and provides consulting services to the ICs, in support of administrative and business applications; and (6) serves as a Federal Data Processing Center for administrative, biomedical, and statistical computing, provides data processing and high performance computing facilities and integrated telecommunications data networks, and provides services to the DHHS and other Federal agencies.

Computational Bioscience and Engineering Laboratory - HNU26 (1) Collaborates with research investigators in modeling and interpreting data, signals, and images, and assisting with computationally intensive tasks in various application areas, including medical imaging via the CT, MRI and other modalities; (2) collaborates with research investigators to design and develop laboratory or clinical instrumentation and research methodologies, comprised of custom designed hardware and application specific software; (3) provides guidance, support and resources to scientists throughout the NIH in the genomic and genetic analysis fields of Bioinformatics; and (4) develops research systems into progressively more accessible and user-friendly systems, which ultimately become commonly-used computer utilities.

Connectivity and Common Services Section - HNU642 (1) Provides Tier 2 information technology support services to the entire NIH community and resolves advanced IT problems in areas including email, networking, remote access, telecommunications, anti-virus, and wireless technology; (2) provides central account establishment and management services for access to CIT and NIH systems; and (3) distributes technical documentation.

Custom Applications Branch - HNU83 (1) Plans, evaluates, acquires, implements, documents, and maintains custom software for the specific unique needs of the NIH research, grants and administrative communities and, when required, for the DHHS; (2) provides interoperability between existing systems; (3) provides and designs software to address information management needs; (4) assesses commercial and government products to determine if they will provide the necessary solution; (5) modifies products for NIH's purposes or develops custom applications; (6) develops business case needs, project management plans, system documentation, system change requests and memoranda or service level agreements to support mission critical systems; and (7) provides IT expertise for cost proposals and evaluations, ensuring cost effectiveness for the NIH.

Data Center Operations Branch - HNU76 (1) Provides 24x7 on-site support, monitoring, and problem resolution for diverse computing platforms, auxiliary systems, output services, and other functions used by CIT customers in the DCSS computer room. (2) Collaborates with other DCSS branches to provide day-to-day management of the data center and problem resolution for services offered by DCSS. (3)Selects, implements, and utilizes a variety of automated operations tools to provide and improve responsive, reliable service to data center customers. Provides backup and disaster recovery services to data center customers. (4) Manages the data center computing facilities physical environment, including installation of, support for, and physical access to the computing and network platforms, monitoring facility environmental conditioning, mechanical, electrical, fire suppression systems, and the Uninterruptible Power Supply. Develops and maintains an auditable physical security environment, including access authorizations.

Data Management Section - HNU872 (1) Manages all of the reporting areas in nvision and Data Warehouse that are presently in.production (or deployed); (2) pulls or extracts information from numerous source systems, transforming the information to facilitate its use across business areas; (3) provides metrics on data quality and assesses risks involved in integrating data for new applications; (4) builds and maintains the corporate metadata repository and assesses whether metadata accurately describes the actual values in the source database to provide an enterprise view of all data; and (5) loads this information in an Enterprise Data Repository that allows NIH staff to efficiently and effectively obtain data and information. '

Data Reporting Section - HNU873 (1) Ensures enterprise data and reports are available, accurate, complete and secure across NIH's internal and external customers; (2) designs and delivers reports for new customers or new reporting business areas that aligns NIH's information requirements with business imperatives and performance measurement needs; (3) connects business intelligence data warehouse requirements to other enterprise initiatives; (4) provides a comprehensive set of analytical and dashboard capabilities and tools; (5) provides customized applications that take advantage of enterprise data and reports; (6) provides secured "open environment" for data access to mission critical systems and institutional applications; and, (7) provides a comprehensive Corporate Dictionary and Business Glossary through a readily accessible central portal.

Desktop Support Section - HNU635 (1) Plays an active and participatory role in support of desktop computing to the end-user, including the seamless integration of desktop technologies in the areas of software, hardware, Internet, communications, and access; (2) evaluates and tests new desktop technologies, including operating systems, applications, hardware, and deployment tools and shares knowledge and ideas with the NIH Institutes and Centers; (3) provides direct desktop support to CIT staff and other customers; and (4) works with CIT business units to efficiently leverage desktop computing technology.

Division of Computational Bioscience - HNU2 (1) Coordinates and manages all Center activities related to the conduct and support of NIH research in the computational biosciences and statistics; (2) applies computing technology to research involving molecular structure determination and modeling, protein and DNA sequence analysis, and biomedical imaging; (3) conducts and supports research in mathematical theory and biophysical instrumentation to explain biological phenomena in terms of chemistry and physics; (4) conducts research and development in computer science and computational engineering; (5) promotes the application of high performance computing to biomedical research, evaluates the overall performance of these programs, and represents the Center to the Federal Program in High Performance Computing and Communication (HPCC); (6) operates the CIT High Performance Computing Platforms and supports the NIH distributed scientific workstation efforts; and (7) communicates and collaborates with researchers, both within and outside NIH, to obtain and provide information concerning the Center's ongoing and future research, and support for research.

Division of Computer System Services - HNU7 (1) Plans, implements, operates, and supports centrally owned or administered computing resources for NIH and other agencies; (2) ensures interoperability among those resources and between them and other computing facilities owned by customers; (3) promotes awareness and efficient and effective use of these computing resources by customer personnel through training, presentations, consultations, and documentation; (4) investigates new and emerging computing requirements of customer programs; (5) conducts research and development to identify, evaluate, and adapt new computer architectures and technologies to meet identified customer requirements and to enhance current service offerings; and (6) provides and manages machine room space both on- and off-campus for user owned and operated computer systems.

Division of Customer Support - HNU6 (1) Provides centralized, integrated computer support services to the NIH computing community; (2) advocates customer needs to CIT management and represents services and policies to the Center's customers; (3) plays an active and participatory role in support of desktop computing to the end-user, including the seamless migration of desktop technologies in the areas of software, hardware, Internet, communications, and access; (4) coordinates and oversees the CIT Training Program for the benefit of the NIH computing community; (5) manages NIH-wide IT Service Desk and implements problem tracking systems; and (6) provides central account establishment and management services for access to CIT systems.

Division of Enterprise and Custom Applications - HNU8 (1) Supports the NIH enterprise business process through the development and management of both transaction and decision-support environments for administrative and business applications of the NIH, such as procurement, budget, accounting and human resource activities; (2) provides systems analysis, programming and application services to the NIH ICs and other Federal agencies; (3) provides database administration and management services; (4) provides consulting services to the NIH ICs regarding the feasibility of applications development; (5) furnishes World Wide Web development and support services to the NIH community; (6) ensures that systems meet or exceed the needs of the community, are efficiently developed, and work effectively with current and planned IT infrastructure; (7) ensures project management accountability across divisional activities; and (8) supports the CIT's Intranet.

Division of Network Systems and Telecommunications - HNU4 (1) Directs the engineering, design, implementation and support of network infrastructure and services for the NIH wide area network (NIHnet) to facilitate the use of scientific, administrative, and other business applications; (2) manages and directs NIH telecommunications systems and; (3) develops technical requirements for the NIH ICs and implements telecommunications programs to meet the needs of the NIH community; (4) serves as the focal point for telecommunications service orders; (5) develops and disseminates recommended standards, policies and procedures for the nationwide implementation and management of NIH networking and telecommunications systems; (6) researches, develops, and tests next-generation networking/telecommunications technologies; (7) develops and supports applications using new network technologies, such as telemedicine and video conferencing; (8) provides consulting, guidance and support to the ICs to meet their network requirements; (9) serves as liaison to the NIH ICs and other DHHS components on networking/telecommunications activities to improve information infrastructure; (10) develops, implements, and supports remote access services to NIHnet; (11) provides technical support for wireless services; and (12) provides 24-hour telephone/network support service.

Emergency Telecommunications Services Section - HNU433 (1) Provides telecommunications moves, adds and changes; (2) manages the E911 Emergency Notification System database; (3) manages the physical security and perimeter fence phone access, blue light emergency, and red phone systems; (4) manages the NIH paper and electronic directory; (5) manages emergency preparedness red alert critical access and continuity of operations dial tone access; and (6) manages priority restoration.

Engineering Operations Section - HNU442 (1) Provides network engineering support, research and development of high speed computing technologies in order to enhance IT services, to include LAN/WAN technology, in support of the bio-medical research and business functions of CIT and NIH-wide; (2) evaluates and tests emerging technology to support all voice, data and video services across DNST; (3) furnishes Domain Name Service (DNS), LISTSERV, and network management administration; and (4) supports VPN and Parachute remote access services.

Enterprise Information Management Branch - HNU87 (1) Employs latest Information Management principles, technologies, and tools to deliver an enterprise reporting capability for the NIH and the various NIH Institutes and Centers (ICs); (2) provides operational support and development of a corporate data repository that is engineered to provide timely, accurate, and clear data including the capability of combining data from a variety of sources, providing predictive analytical reports, and satisfying NIH corporate data needs; (3) provides user training and customer support for all the reporting areas; (4) provides corporate communications to the NIH community; (5) develops and maintains a corporate metadata repository that assists with updating downstream systems, applications and the user community updated on changes; (6) operates and maintains the legacy HRDB and supports the Capital HR reporting functionality; and (7) responds to on-demand requests for information retrievals providing supporting documents for Congressional inquiries, NIH audits, and FOIA requests.

Enterprise Messaging and Infrastructure Branch - HNU77 (1) Plans, implements, manages, and supports secure, highly available, enterprise messaging services for NIH employees and contract personnel; provides the messaging hardware and software infrastructure as well as dependent products and services. (2) Plans, implements, and manages the hardware and software information technology infrastructure needed to maintain Windows systems throughout NIH. (3) Develops and maintains internal systems procedures documentation, which controls the organization, policies, and standards required for effective operation and management of those systems supported by the branch; supports all systems in an auditable environment; provides continuity of operations and disaster recovery services. (4) Collaborates with NIH organizations to evaluate, select, and recommend new messaging and infrastructure technologies to support NIH requirements; evaluates and deploys new information technology infrastructure for Windows computing platforms.

Enterprise Systems Section - HNU643 Provides Tier 2 information technology support services to the entire NIH community and resolves advanced IT problems regarding the NIH Business System, NIH Login, IT AS, mainframe and scientific systems, and other Enterprise systems related issues.

Executive Office - HNU14 (1) Provides guidance and support to the Center Director and other senior leaders on the administrative and business management aspects of the Center's programs, policies, and procedures; (2) plans and manages the administrative services for the Center; (3) coordinates the Center's response to NIH-wide management programs; (4) coordinates development and oversight of the CIT budget; (5) plans, advises and coordinates all Center acquisitions, serving as liaison with the NIH COAC; (6) oversees workforce planning and development activities; and (7) performs strategic planning, operational planning, performance measurement, and coordination of IT acquisition resources.

Administrative Management Group - HNU143 (1) Provides guidance and support on all administrative and business aspects of the Center's programs, advising on administrative policies and practices; (2) provides overall administrative support services to all programs of the Center, including human resources, space and facilities management, funds control, technology transfer, travel management, personal property management, timekeeping, emergency response management, and the implementation of new or changing administrative policies and practices; (3) coordinates and implements Center-wide responses to NIH management programs.

Financial Management Group - HNU144 (1) Conducts the financial affairs of the Center, including the formulation, presentation, allocation, execution, tracking and reporting of the Center's budget; (2) provides budgetary and financial planning, tracking, analysis, and reporting; (3) provides billing cost recovery services; and (4) establishes consistent financial policies and procedures for the Center.

Acquisitions Planning and Management Group HNU145 (1) Provides advice, guidance, and management of the Center s simplified and complex acquisition activities spanning solicitation, evaluation, negotiation and award, contract postaward, and closeout administration; (2) acts as the Business Contracting Officer s Representative and liaison to program staff; (3) assists program staff as necessary in their oversight and management of awards; (4) manages enterprise license agreements; (5) provides procurement services, including micro-purchasing and POTS administration; (6) manages the Center s purchase card program; and (7) is responsible for implementing Federal, Departmental, NIH and local procurement laws, regulations, case studies, policies, and procedures in the accomplishment of the Center s procurement support activities.

External Applications Support Branch - HNU84 (1) Provides computer software development and production support services, on a fee-forservice basis, to the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Program Support Center (PSC), and on an availability basis, to all other agencies; (2) provides development, production support, systems security and disaster recovery on mainframe computers for all supported services; (3) develops applications for administrative applications such as tax statements and payroll changes, federal reporting requirements, and responding to audit findings; and (4) develops products and services that will be sought out by user community.

Help Desk Branch - HNU64 (1) Manages the consolidated NIH Help Desk; (2) provides technical assistance to users of CIT and NIH enterprise systems and services; (3) provides technical assistance to users of NIH desktop computers; (4) provides central account establishment and management services for access to CIT and NIH systems; and (5) distributes technical documentation.

High Performance Computing and Informatics Office - HNU23 (1) Develops high-performance computational methods and algorithms to analyze biomedical research data and model complex biological systems; (2) applies visualization concepts to facilitate the analysis and presentation of multidimensional scientific data; (3) develops knowledge-based data management systems that provide the environment for collaborative biomedical research studies including medical image archive systems; (4) provides computing resources to the DCB and collaborating Institutes including high-performance parallel computers and data storage systems; and (5) consults and collaborates with NIH intramural researchers and colleagues at other research centers in applying computer and information technologies to biomedical research problems.

Hosting Services Branch - HNU78 (1) Plans, manages, supports, and coordinates activities on centrally managed UNIX and Windows database, middle tier, web, and application servers; provides systems architecture, integration, and consulting services to CIT customers to ensure systems meet customer expectations and future needs; provides security architecture design, development and consulting and application firewall implementation for CIT customers. (2) Develops and maintains internal systems procedures documentation, which controls the organization, policies, and standards required for effective operation and management of Unix and Windows systems; supports all systems in an auditable environment; provides systems and security support for continuity of operations and disaster recovery services. (3) Designs, implements, and maintains a software support infrastructure for production database applications on Unix and Windows platforms, including RDBMS and middle tier software. (4) Collaborates with CIT customers and other CIT organizations to evaluate, select, and recommend new database, middleware, and general hosting technologies to support NIH requirements; evaluate and deploy new information technology solutions and services required for UNIX and Windows platforms.

Imaging Sciences Laboratory - HNU24 (1) Develops and applies advanced imaging methods and algorithms to biomedical images that range from the entire body to the molecular level; (2) creates and implements innovative software technology for clinical, animal, and laboratory imaging; (3) collaborates in the design and implementation of computational techniques for microscopic imaging and biomolecular structure determination; (4) advances the application of high performance computing to computationally demanding imaging problems; (5) manages the CIT Image Processing Facility (IPF) which provides software to the NIH Institutes; and (6) consults and collaborates with NIH intramural researchers to share computing methods, technologies, and ideas for new imaging methodologies.

Inside Plant Section - HNU426 (1) Provides, maintains and enhances horizontal and vertical cabling services; (2) plans, designs, manages and oversees the implementation of major projects to enhance data, video and voice services; and (3) documents, maintains and updates cable infrastructure drawings and database.

Large Systems Services Branch - HNU74 (1) Plans, manages, supports, and coordinates the computing, storage, telecommunications, and printing services made available to the customers of the mainframe processing environment(s). (2) Develops and maintains internal systems procedures documentation, which controls the organization, policies, and standards required for effective operation and management of mainframe systems; supports all systems in an auditable environment; provides systems support for continuity of operations and disaster recovery services. (3) Designs, implements, and maintains a software support infrastructure for production databases on the mainframe. (4) Collaborates with CIT customers and other CIT organizations to research, evaluate, select, develop, and implement new z/os based information technology solutions.

Mathematical and Statistical Computing Laboratory - HNU28 (1) Promotes the use and accessibility of mathematical and statistical tools to advance both basic and clinical research; and (2) performs research, in collaboration with scientists from other institutes, and provides expert advice in the quantitative sciences to NIH researchers in these disciplines: (a) numerical analysis of data from chemical experiments and development of theoretical models and algorithms for the interpretation of such data; (b) statistical and mathematically oriented research that arises from biomedical research projects; (c) development of analytical tools for image representation and reconstruction and the application of these to data generated in the Clinical Center; and (d) the application of techniques of theoretical physics, and in particular, of statistical mechanics to problems of NIH interest.

Network and Engineering Branch - HNU44 (1) Provides and maintains a secure, reliable, and high capacity network backbone to support the mission of NIH and scientific research; and (2) explores new technologies to ensure the development of a state-of-the-art network infrastructure in support of the data needs NIH-wide.

Network Implementation Section - HNU446 (1) Integrates, upgrades, and expands Nm's enterprise network infrastructure to meet growing demands of the NIH community; and (2) implements network moves, adds, and changes for wired and wireless networks; provides network infrastructure for new buildings.

Network Operations Section - HNU444 (1) Monitors, operates, and maintains a secure, ubiquitous, network infrastructure that enables NIH customers access to network based information and services twenty four hours per day seven days per week; and (2) provides 24 x 7 network operations support; performs network upgrades; repairs network anomalies.

Network Security Section - HNU445 (1) Protects the integrity and confidentiality of critical and sensitive data transmissions across the NIH network; and (2) delivers firewall, IDS, viruswall, content filtering, and web caching services.

Office of the Director - HNU1 (1) Plans, directs, coordinates, and evaluates the Center's programs, policies, and procedures; and (2) provides analysis and guidance in the development of systems for the effective use of IT techniques and equipment in support of NIH programs.

Outside Plant Section - HNU427 (1) Installs, maintains, and repairs NIH outside cable plant to support inter-building network, voice and video services; (2) designs, constructs, plans and manages pathways, and facilities to support major projects; and (3) documents, updates and maintains NIH outside plant cables records.

Requirements and Change Management Section - HNU874 (1) Develops, validates and documents new reporting requirements from various NIH Stakeholders; (2) plans and facilitates stakeholder outreach activities; (3) establishes change management (CM) policy and procedures for nvision/data Warehouse reporting areas; (4) ensures integration of new reporting areas with the CM process and manages, tracks, directs, and validates implementation of system changes; (5) coordinates organizational impact analyses of planned modifications to existing reporting areas; and, (6) facilitates demonstrations and end user pilot and focus group sessions to validate requirements.

Scientific Computing Branch - HNU75 (1) Plans, manages, supports, and coordinates activities on central UNIX-based general purpose and high performance computers for use by NIH scientists. (2) Identifies, installs and supports scientific application programs, scientific databases, programming languages, and tools on systems managed by the branch; prepares documentation, technical presentations and training classes for NIH intramural staff relating to scientific applications; enhances existing and develops new scientific applications with an emphasis on ease of access. (3) Investigates, evaluates, and applies UNIX-based distributed computing technologies; plans, manages, and supports central hardware and software facilities that support NIH UNIX desktop systems. (4) Researches new developments in high performance, scientific, database, web computing, high speed interconnect, and storage technologies and incorporates them into production work.

Signal Processing and Instrumentation Section - HNU266 (1) Provides electrical, electronic, electro-optical, computer, and software engineering expertise to the NIH Intramural Research program for projects that require the development of biomedical instrumentation and signal processing systems; (2) provides advanced real-time signal transduction, signal processing, and control systems that result in the creation of new biomedical instrumentation technologies; (3) provides cdna Microarray, Tissue Microarray, Laser Capture Microdissection, Chromosome Microdissection, Ultra-rapid Scanning Spectrometer, and Electron Paramagnetic Resonance Imaging technologies; (4) conducts research and development activities of the section which are collaborate efforts with NIH Institute scientists involving the development of unique, specialized biomedical instruments; (5) works on projects that involve signal processing algorithm development required for system simulation and signal analysis; and (6) provides design expertise in advanced analog and digital circuitry, biophysical signal transduction techniques, radio frequency and telemetry systems, digital signal processing hardware and software, programmable logic devices, opto-electronics, and computer based instrumentation for signal processing and control.

Support Services Branch - HNU63 (1) Advocates customer needs to CIT management and represents services and policies to the Center's customers; (2) plays an active and participatory role in support of desktop computing to the end-user; including the seamless integration of desktop technologies in the areas of software, hardware, Internet, communications, and access; (3) evaluates and tests new desktop technologies, including operating systems, applications, hardware, and deployment tools; (4) investigates and recommends desktop support methodologies; and (5) coordinates and oversees the CIT Training Program for the benefit of the NIH computing community.

Telecommunications Infrastructure Branch - HNU43 (1) Provides cost efficient and reliable telecommunications services NIH-wide; (2) provides telecommunications product/services that meet the technological/cost requirements of the medical, scientific and business communities; (3) operates a twenty-four hour/seven days per week call center that provides locator, signal page, wireless voice, directory and answering services for the general public, NIH and DHHS; and (4) manages the semi-annual publication of the NIH telephone directory, NIH meeting schedules and organizational listings.

Telecommunications Operations Section - HNU432 (1) Provides moves, adds and changes to the 5ESS telephone system for the NIH community; (2) responds to customer requirements voice mail, wireless voice, major moves, circuit management and data collection services; (3) provisions dial tone, and procures telephone sets, Network Terminals (NT1's) and peripheral equipment; and (4) manages telephone features and assigns digital and analog telephone numbers.

Training Section - HNU634 (1) Coordinates and oversees the CIT Training Program for the benefit of the NIH computing community; and (2) works with other HHS and NIH training programs to ensure that the IT training needs of the NIH community are met.

Switched Services Section HN422 Support all telecommunications telephone and peripheral equipment and services for digital and analog voice and data service. Process requests to support all telephone moves, add and changes. Conduct technical analysis of telecommunication service requirements with NIH customers and facilitate requests.
