KURIO ROM System Update Procedure v137 IMPORTANT NOTE: Before starting the system update, please check your current Android build number, which can be checked by following these steps: 1. Exit the Kurio Interface and switch to Android by pressing the Back to Android button in the Parental Area. 2. Once in Android Mode, press the Settings icon to open the Setting Menu. 3. Scroll down until you see About Tablet on the left side. Click on this tab to open the info. 4. Your build number is the last 3 digits under the heading Build Number. If your build number is below 110, please start at STEP 1a. You will have two updates to install throughout the update. If the 3 digits at the end of this number are 110 or above, you can skip directly to STEP 1b. IMPORTANT: you must have more than 50% of remaining battery and we strongly recommend charging the unit throughout the procedure either through the USB or wall charger. Step 1a: DOWNLOADING ROM To start, download the update directly on your computer / laptop by clicking the link below (approximately 380 Mb): https://www.yousendit.com/download/uw13t0nwunixuufpr01uqw DO NOT EXTRACT OR UNZIP THE DOWNLOADED FILE Step 1b: DOWNLOADING ROM To start, download the update directly on your computer / laptop by clicking the link below (approximately 490 Mb): https://www.yousendit.com/download/wfjyc0wxatffc0xmynrvag DO NOT EXTRACT OR UNZIP THE DOWNLOADED FILE Step 2: TRANSFERRING ROM TO THE KURIO Once the file is downloaded on your computer, switch your Kurio into the Android Mode (exit the Kurio interface). Then connect Kurio to your computer with the USB cable and the following screen should then be displayed (in your language). Once plugged in the tablet will switch automatically to USB mode. On your computer / laptop, windows showing details of the external hard drive or SD card should appear: Copy the Kurio update file onto your Kurio or, if present, onto the removable disk: DO NOT EXTRACT OR UNZIP THE DOWNLOADED FILE. Page 3 of 9
On your Kurio: Click on the icon: Settings, then find the option Backup and Reset as shown on the following screen : Click on Recovery mode Page 4 of 9
Confirm by clicking OK The tablet will shut down and restart. After a few seconds, the following screen will appear: Using the «vol -» button, please navigate down the menu and select «Apply update from external storage» and then press on the «power» button to select. Using the «vol -» button, please select the ZIP file that you have copied earlier and select the file by pressing the power button. Page 5 of 9
You will see a few yellow words and a status bar at the bottom of the screen as the ROM is being installed. Please wait until the following screen appears again : Once the screen appears, press on «power» to restart the tablet. The restart may take several minutes. Please don t do anything before the unlock screen appears on the tablet. Unlock the tablet and enter into the Android interface. Page 6 of 9
Press on «Settings» and click on the last option of the menu on the left side of the screen (about tablet) : US 1.1.137 a. The build number should finish with 137 (ignore the other characters before). If this is the case, the update is successful and finished. b. Unplug the USB cable. If you started at STEP 1a, then do this procedure once more from STEP 1b Page 7 of 9
Step 3: Finalization and removal of update files You can now erase the update file. Press on the home button and then on the icon File Manager: Inside the File Manager, click on the Internal disk or SD tab depending on which drive was used for the update : You will find 1 or 2 files with a name starting with Kurio7. Press on each file for a few seconds until the menu below appears: Click on Delete File and the file will be erased. After the upgrade is completed and the tablet is ON, shut down the tablet by pressing the Power button and holding it until the tablet stops then either restarts (if you are not connected to a power source) or shows a battery charge symbol on the screen (if you are connected to a power source). In this latter case, release and press and hold again power to restart the tablet. Please check the Date and Time after this operation to ensure they are properly set. Should it not be the case, it is important to adjust them again (see the user manual). The update is finished and your Kurio is ready to use! Page 9 of 9
