Both the Clinical Mental Health and School Walsh s Clinical Mental Health Counseling specialization offers Counseling Programs are nationally accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and students a focused clinical education with experiential training and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). a strong emphasis on case-oriented learning. A variety of internship sites help provide graduates with a competitive edge in the professional job market. Mental Health or clinical Counselors practice in community family service centers, crisis intervention, alcohol and drug abuse treatment, criminal justice, hospitals, mental health agencies and more. School Counselors practice primarily in school settings and cover areas such as career counseling, crisis counseling, prevention and intervention programs, assistance with learning disabilities and more. Student Affairs in Higher Education is the perfect program for students wishing to pursue a career in areas such as residence life and housing, student programming and administration, multicultural affairs, international student programs, service learning, career and academic advising and much more. Walsh s unique curriculum allows students to complete the requirements for both Clinical Mental Health and School Counseling specialties with relative ease. School counselors today are called upon to do much more than career guidance; they provide individual, group and crisis counseling, develop prevention and intervention programs for at risk students, assist learning disabled students, and facilitate connection to community resources for both students and parents. School systems employ school counselors to work with students from kindergarten through the twelfth grade to foster their personal, social and vocational/academic development. Ohio law now permits school systems to hire graduates of school counseling programs without requiring a teaching license and/or teaching experience. In response to the demands of our constantly changing, multicultural society, there is a steadily growing need for licensed school counselors. Fast Facts 5 WALSH UNIVERSITY Experienced faculty and small classes assure individual attention and encourage active participation. Clinical Mental Health and School Counseling programs are nationally accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). Our rolling admissions allow you to apply when it s right for you. Several courses in the Counseling and Human Development program are available in accelerated formats to give students an opportunity to increase the pace of their degree path. Students have the option to obtain their degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling or School Counseling, or complete both specialties. Walsh graduates have high pass rates on state licensure exams. A focus on clinical and applied practice provides our students with critical hands-on learning opportunities. Students will have the opportunity to obtain global experiences by studying abroad. Admission Requirements Persons with a bachelor s degree from an accredited college or university, with promising scholastic standing and with personal and professional potential, will be considered for admission to the CHD program. Applicants should contact the Admissions Office at least six weeks before classes begin. Other requirements include: Requirements include: Completed application form, accompanied by a non-refundable application/registration fee of $25. Official transcript(s) of undergraduate and other graduate study sent directly from the applicant s college or university to Walsh Admissions Office. Transcripts are not necessary for Walsh University graduates. Three recommendations CHD Program forms completed by persons qualified to appraise scholastic aptitude, personal and professional promise such as a past instructor or professional working in the counseling human service health field. Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale on the baccalaureate transcript. Applicants who meet this criterion do not need to submit results from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or Miller Analogies Test (MAT). Applicants with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.99 or less may be considered for conditional admission once they have submitted their results from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or the Miller Analogies Test (MAT) in addition to all required Admissions documents. Individuals who hold a master s degree from an accredited college or university are not required to provide GRE or MAT results. A notarized affidavit of good moral character. On campus interview with the CHD Program Director or program faculty members Written English proficiency demonstrated in a writing sample completed on-site. Out-of-state or international applicants may contact the Program Director for alternate arrangements for the writing sample. Scholarships and Discounts Walsh Alumni Tuition Discounts Graduates of Walsh University are eligible for a 25 percent tuition discount for graduate courses in the Counseling and Human Development program. To obtain this discount, alumni students complete a request form at the time of registration. Premier Tuition Discount Scholarship The Counseling and Human Development program awards scholarship tuition discounts for students who are graduates of other universities based on a weighted combination of factors including financial need related employment and academic excellence.
