CHESAPEAKE SCIENCE POINT PUBLIC CHARTER SCHOOL Mandatory School Uniform Policy 2010-2011 1. GENERAL UNIFORM INFORMATION A. POLICY: The purpose of this policy is to provide descriptions and proper wear of all authorized uniforms and components. 1. APPLICABILITY: The provisions of this policy apply to all students who are enrolled at Chesapeake Science Point (CSP) Public Charter School. It is issued for information and guidance, and requires compliance at all times. This policy is the sole source for dictation on what the school uniform and its components are and how to correctly wear them. B. ENFORCEMENT: This policy defines the composition of authorized uniforms. Uniforms and components shall be worn as described in this policy. CSP students must present a proud and professional appearance that will reflect positively on the individual and the school. All students shall comply with this policy and be available to teach others the correct wear of the uniforms. Exemplary appearance should be the norm for all students.
2. DAILY UNIFORM WEAR A. SHIRTS: Must have CSP school logo on top left side and be securely tucked in at all times. Polo solid navy blue or burgundy in color White Oxford Shirt with tie (boys and girls) for specified occasions Girls tie: solid burgundy in color, front crisscross style with center snap Boys tie: solid burgundy in color B. PANTS/ CAPRIS PANTS: Must be worn with black belt (CARGO STYLE NOT ALLOWED) Solid navy blue or khaki in color Pants may not be rolled up to represent Capri Pants Capri Pants worn only during summer dates* C. SKORTS: (NO SKIRTS or DRESSES) Solid navy blue or khaki in color, no shorter than knee length Knee high socks are allowed, only plain solid navy blue, plain solid burgundy, or plain solid white. D. SHORTS: Must be worn with black belt. (CARGO STYLE NOT ALLOWED) Solid navy blue or khaki in color NO shorter than knee length and worn only during summer dates* E. SHOES: Solid black only. Solid black tennis shoes or dress shoes, fully laced through all eyelets and tied if applicable Boots may be worn to school during inclement weather, but must be placed in students locker and uniform policy approved shoes must be worn during school hours. F. SOCKS: Plain solid black, navy blue, burgundy or white only *SUMMER DATES: In the fall, from the first day school until October 31 st and in the spring, from April 1 st through the last day of the school ONLY 2
3. APPEARANCE / GROOMING Students should come to school clean and neatly groomed. Clothing should be clean, neat and stain free. Hair should be clean, neatly combed and not hanging in the student s face. Hair may not be of un-natural color, e.g. may not be colored in any way with pink, yellow, red, green, grey, silver, etc. There will be an exception during Spirit Week and with the possible administrative permission on St. Patrick s Day and Jersey Day. Students may not write, color, draw, place stickers, or objects of any kind, etc. on any part of clothing or body. This includes uniforms, gym clothing, etc. This will be considered out of uniform and disciplinary procedures will be enforced. The same applies to casual dress as well and will result in loss of dress down privileges. During the last week of school, with parent/guardian permission, students are allowed to wear a white tee shirt or use their gym shirts to write, to color, or to draw on. 4. PHYSICAL EDUCATION UNIFORM On assigned physical education days only. The entire gym uniform must be worn as stated. A. GYM SHIRT: Solid white in color with CSP school logo on front B. PANTS: Solid navy blue or black in color C. SHORTS: Solid navy blue or black in color (sweat pant or mesh material), NO shorter than knee length D. GYM SHOES Tennis shoes (any color) Fully laced through all eyelets and tied if applicable E. SOCKS Plain solid white in color 3
5. OPTIONAL UNIFORM COMPONENTS: A. JACKETS: Must have CSP school logo on top left side Solid navy blue or burgundy in color Hooded jackets are NOT permitted B. FLEECE JACKETS : Must have CSP school log on top left side Solid navy blue or burgundy in color Hooded jackets are NOT permitted Long sleeved shirts (Plain Solid Colors ONLY) are permitted to be worn under uniforms. 6. ACCESSORIES A. JEWELRY Ear rings, no larger than the size of a quarter or 1 inch in length Necklaces, no more than 16 inches in length Necklaces, bracelets, rings, etc. wearing more than 3 are not permitted None of the said items may pose a safety hazard, cause a distraction, or represent weapons, contraband, racism, bullying or harassment of any kind. B. PURSES/BOOKBAGS Must in remain in lockers at all times. Only during an emergency and with the teachers permission, you will be allowed to get your purse and return it to the locker when finished. 4
CHESAPEAKE SCIENCE POINT PUBLIC CHARTER SCHOOL Mandatory School Uniform Policy Disciplinary Procedures 2010-2011 1. Violations of the uniform policy (dress code) will be documented and signed by the student and result as follows: A. First violation: Verbal warning B. Second violation: Phone call to parents C. Third violation: Student is assigned to administrative detention D. Fourth violation: Student is assigned to an alternative learning setting until appropriate clothing is secured E. Fifth and subsequent violations: Administration will administer a disciplinary consequence in accordance with the Code of Conduct for Disruptive Clothing or Appearance. This disciplinary consequence may result in out of school suspension. The severity of the infraction and the student s willingness to cooperate with school officials and adhere to the standards of the dress code will be factored into disciplinary consequence. 2. Violations of this dress code shall be treated as disruptive behavior in violation of the Student Code of Conduct. However, dress-code violations shall not carry over on the student s disciplinary record to subsequent years. This dress code shall apply to all students at all times when they attend school or any school related or sponsored event. 5
