Scope and general objectives AVAILABLE DATA FOR THE VEHICLE FLEET - Statistical site (DGT). E.g. Vehicle register data www.dgt.es - www.madrid.es/estadistica - Data from municipal circulation tax
Scope and general objectives Circulating fleet study Vehicles actually moving through the streets of Madrid are assessed to produce a mileage distribution (vehicle-kilometer) according to: - Vehicle type (passenger cars, motorcycles, buses, etc. - Fuel (gasoline, diesel, NCG, etc.) - Vehicle age
Design and methodology
Design and methodology -Existing municipal traffic cameras 55 locations -Additional visual plate readings (13 locations) to ensure consistency and complete specific data groups (e.g. motorbikes)
Data gathering and processing Sampling period Monday 20th to Monday 27th May 2013 Sampling types -Automatic readings (55): - Red-light cameras (17) - M-30 Ring road (2) - Calle-30 tunnel (34) - AQ Campaign F.L. (2) - Visual readings (17) DATA GATHERING
Data gathering and processing Data gathering 4.920.868 plate readings National Traffic Authority (DGT) 1.304.112 different registers Municipal Bus Authority (EMT) READINGS DGT_DATA BUSES Circulating fleet Madrid City Hall Traffic model kms
Results Circulating fleet of vehicles by sector and zone
Results Summary of results
Results Summary of results
Results
Exploitation of results Passenger cars histogram - Average age = 9,3 years - Mode = 6,0 years Age (years) - Small differences between zones (VC = 5,5% )
Exploitation of results -El 81,9% de las lecturas corresponden a códigos postales de la Comunidad de Madrid, la mayor parte (53,4% del municipio de Madrid)
Exploitation of results - Municipal street parking system vehicle technology approach
Conclusions 1) This study has provided more reliable information regarding the quality of emissions inventory and aided in the decision making processes on mobility policy 2) Traffic is mainly composed of passenger cars (80,7%), mostly diesel powered (68,3%). Alternative fuels, hybrids and electrics remain negligible (<0,1%) 3) Only the 53% of the total vehicle-km driven in Madrid corresponds to owners registered in the municipality 4) This study can be considered an effective way to optimize public resources via coordination among different municipal services (EMT, Street 30, Traffic Management..) and government agencies
