Alcatel-Lucent 9360 Small Cell Solution for the Enterprise Delivering big gains all around

The Alcatel-Lucent 9360 Small Cell solution for the enterprise (SCE) cost-effectively extends W-CDMA network coverage to businesses while simultaneously offloading voice and data traffic from the mobile service provider s macro network. The enterprise simply connects an Alcatel-Lucent 9362 Enterprise Cell (EC) to a broadband Internet service. Using self-organizing network (SON) technology, the 9362 EC comes into service automatically, without requiring further intervention. With the 9362 EC s higher throughput and faster, more reliable data connections, the uptake of 3G services is driven up, providing increased revenues from the services that mobile service providers already offer. The Alcatel-Lucent 9360 SCE greatly enhances the potential for new, innovative business service creation by providing APIs that integrate easily with enterprise applications. 2 Alcatel-Lucent 9360 Small Cell Solution for the Enterprise

Small cells for big gains Many enterprises today use 3G mobile handsets, smartphones and 3G-enabled laptops to improve the mobility and efficiency of their workforces. The convenience afforded by these devices has quickly made anytime, anywhere multimedia communications an integral part of everyday life. And many business users increasingly rely on their mobile devices even when they are in the office often accessing e-mail and other crucial information needed to conduct business. Unfortunately, many business subscribers cannot make simple voice calls or access mobile data services while at work, due to coverage limitations. Recent surveys show that over 60 percent of mobile subscribers complain about poor service in the workplace, and this problem is going to get worse as 3G data usage increases among business users. How to provide cost-effective in-building business coverage has always been a challenge for mobile service providers. Penetrating buildings from the outside is difficult because signal strength significantly decreases when travelling through the walls and windows. This leads to poor voice and data service quality. Alcatel-Lucent 9360 Small Cell Solution for the Enterprise 3

Several in-building coverage solutions exist, including Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) and picocells, but they have not been widely deployed because of the large upfront investment they require. This includes site surveys, frequency planning and installation by highly-trained engineers. Because of this, DAS and picocells are targeted primarily at large enterprises, leaving small office/home office (SOHO) and small to medium enterprises (SMEs) without a readily available coverage solution. Enterprise small cells provide a cost-efficient, cost-effective option for in-building coverage. Because they are selfinstalled devices, they completely eliminate the engineering and installation expenses associated with DAS and picocells. With their built-in efficiencies, enterprise small cells are suitable for the smallest of businesses. to backhaul mobile voice and data traffic to the service provider s core network. Flexible enough to meet any business need, the 9360 SCE scales from a single 9362 EC, handling up to 16 simultaneous calls, to a meshed network of self-organizing Enterprise Cells that can blanket any size business, whether it is small, medium or large. Because small cells are part of the wireless network infrastructure, transmission is always secure, and handovers between 9362 ECs in the same enterprise group and between 9362 ECs and the macro network are seamless. As a carrier-grade, end-to-end solution, the Alcatel-Lucent 9360 Small Cell solution for the enterprise (SCE) integrates easily into mobile service providers existing 3G networks. With it, high-capacity, low-power Alcatel-Lucent 9362 Enterprise Cell (EC) access points are placed inside the business premises, using existing broadband connections 4 Alcatel-Lucent 9360 Small Cell Solution for the Enterprise

Cost-effectively extending network coverage and capacity With the Alcatel-Lucent 9360 SCE, service providers can blanket any enterprise with W-CDMA, HSDPA and HSUPA coverage quickly and cost-effectively, providing five-bar signal strength throughout the office. This occurs because Alcatel-Lucent 9362 ECs bring the base station closer to the end-user device, improving signal to noise ratio (SINR), and allowing employees to experience crystal clear voice and faster, more reliable data services. Alcatel-Lucent 9362 ECs increase network capacity too. As 9362 ECs are added to enterprises, they offload traffic from the macro network, effectively increasing available network capacity. The need to deploy new cell sites and Radio Network Controllers (RNCs) to accommodate growing 3G capacity demands is lessened, reducing CAPEX. Also, with the deployment of fewer cell sites, savings are realized from reduced backhaul costs, lower cell-site real-estate rental fees and smaller power bills. According to a recent Bell Labs study, incorporating small cells into the network can save service providers 12% to 53% in CAPEX and 5% to 10% in OPEX, depending on traffic loading and projections. Improving Quality of Experience The Alcatel-Lucent 9360 SCE dramatically improves the end user s Quality of Experience (QoE). Through improved SINR, the higher quality air interface provides faster, more reliable data connections and higher data throughput. The flat IP architecture of the Alcatel-Lucent 9362 EC ensures low latency, resulting in a full HSPA experience. High-bandwidth services, such as streaming video, can be viewed comfortably with no quality degradation. Excellent indoor coverage means employees experience better voice quality with no lost calls. It also means employees remain reachable on one phone and one phone number at all times, simplifying business communications. Mobile device batteries also last longer because they only need to transmit at very low power. The Alcatel-Lucent 9360 SCE also improves QoE for users of the macro network. By offloading heavy users from the macro network, the Alcatel-Lucent 9362 EC frees up limited resources for subscribers on the move. With fewer users per cell, there is more bandwidth available for all. Alcatel-Lucent 9360 Small Cell Solution for the Enterprise 5

Increasing revenue Excellent in-building coverage results in increased business productivity. More mobile calls are completed and usage is increased for services such as file sharing, multimedia messaging, video conferencing and simultaneous voice and data. With the higher bandwidth and exceptional data connectivity provided by the Alcatel-Lucent 9362 EC, the uptake of value-added 3G services is increased, including applications specific to the enterprise, such as workforce management and Customer Relationship Management (CRM). For small and medium enterprises, the Alcatel-Lucent 9360 SCE enables service providers to offer fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) services that may include on-premises lower tariffs to capture fixed-line revenues. Employees gain the simplification and convenience of managing one handset, phone book and voice mail. Service continuity is also a reality, with seamless transfers to and from the macro network as employees travel to and from their workplaces. The Alcatel-Lucent 9360 SCE can increase revenues from the services that network providers are already offering and from new innovative services developed specifically for the enterprise. More channels to market Unlike DAS or picocells, Alcatel-Lucent 9362 ECs do not require any special radio frequency (RF) planning, engineering or installation by trained technicians. As off-the-shelf self-configurable products that can be installed and maintained by the enterprise s regular IT staff, the 9362 ECs are ideal for distribution through the mobile service provider s existing value-added resellers who distribute business communications products. Because these channels have already cultivated relationships with most enterprise customers, they can offer the service provider a readily accessible market of potential business customers. 6 Alcatel-Lucent 9360 Small Cell Solution for the Enterprise

4 2 Key Features Deployment flexibility The Alcatel-Lucent 9360 SCE, consisting of one-to-many Alcatel-Lucent 9362 ECs deployed in autonomous, self-organizing groups, delivers cost-effective coverage suited to both the smallest of offices and larger multisite enterprises. In the same manner as modular building blocks, the 9362 ECs can be arranged flexibly to cover any size or shape of business space, including irregularly shaped, multifloor and shared-occupancy buildings. The Alcatel-Lucent 9362 ECs are suitable for filling in coverage holes within manufacturing facilities, providing coverage for high-use hotspots, such as lobbies, cafeterias and conference rooms, or for wholly blanketing an enterprise with superior 3G coverage. As the enterprise changes and grows, the Alcatel-Lucent 9360 SCE has the flexibility to adapt to the enterprise s needs. Operating in closed, open or semi-open mode, the solution provides the enterprise owner with the flexibility to determine who can access the Alcatel-Lucent 9362 EC network. Access can be given to all visitors, to only the employees of the enterprise, or to both employees and visitors, with priority being given to employees. Alcatel-Lucent 9360 Small Cell Solution for the Enterprise 7

Plug and play The enterprise simply connects the Alcatel-Lucent 9362 EC to a broadband Internet service. Using Alcatel-Lucent self-organizing/self-optimizing algorithms (a Bell Labs innovation), the 9362 EC automatically comes into service without any further intervention required. When a group of Alcatel-Lucent 9362 ECs is required to satisfy a large coverage area, the Alcatel-Lucent 9362 EC plug-and-play auto-configuration feature ensures that overlapping 9362 ECs do not use the same scrambling codes, removing the need for manual setup and eliminating potential service degradation due to interference. Plug-and-play reduces Alcatel-Lucent 9362 EC deployment costs, decreasing the need for large customer support teams, and lessening the need for massive reprovisioning following typical macro network replanning. The Alcatel-Lucent 9362 EC also allows the mobile service provider to control the 9362 EC s location automatically, which is critical for emergency calling and other location-based services. Its location is initially determined during the auto-configuration process and later changed whenever the 9362 EC detects a change to its environment through periodical monitoring. Self-organizing/self-optimizing Alcatel-Lucent Self-Organizing Network (SON) technology, powered by our W-CDMA experience and Bell Labs innovations, significantly reduces operational expenses while improving network performance. It enables auto-configuration used by plug-and-play and network optimization for coverage, capacity and handovers. SON enables the Alcatel-Lucent 9362 EC to continuously adjust its transmit power to the surrounding environment to deliver the best possible coverage. It also enables the 9362 EC to mitigate interference from other cells, either from within enterprise groups or within the macro network, improving spectral efficiency and network capacity. SON also eliminates unwanted handovers within the same enterprise group, to other groups, or to the macro network by enabling the Alcatel-Lucent 9362 EC to periodically monitor and update information regarding its neighboring cells. 8 Alcatel-Lucent 9360 Small Cell Solution for the Enterprise

Enabling applications development The Alcatel-Lucent 9360 SCE enables service providers to leverage unique network capabilities, such as location, presence, Quality of Service (QoS) and trusted security for application development. This can be done by the service provider or third parties. Through the use of the following APIs, the Alcatel-Lucent 9360 SCE significantly enhances the potential to create innovative services, such as localized push-to-talk, enterprise notes, localized broadcasting and find-me: Small Cell Locate enables localized services by providing mobile location updates. Small Cell Inform delivers presence information associated with one or more users. Small Cell Local Connect redirects user traffic from the core network to the corporate network, enabling higher throughputs for applications, such as file sharing. Small Cell Intelligent Notification enables audio, text or video notification messages to be sent based on presence. Small Cell Mobile Extension allows an IP private branch exchange (PBX) connection to be made between the Alcatel-Lucent 9362 EC and the PBX, enabling services such as extension dialing and virtual company number. Small Cell Net allows a group of Alcatel-Lucent 9362 ECs to self-organize into a meshed network of extended coverage that continuously monitors and adjusts to other small cells neighbors and changes in the surrounding macro network. Alcatel-Lucent also provides a developer platform and program that simplifies application creation by allowing developers to leverage the unique assets of multiple service providers in one place. This eliminates inconsistent policies, practices, capabilities and requirements across multiple networks that make application development costly and lengthy. As part of this service, developers conveniently enter into a single contractual agreement with Alcatel-Lucent, receive technical support for connecting to applications servers, and gain secure access to easy-to-use APIs. For mobile service providers, this program eliminates the expense of registering, provisioning and supporting a plethora of developers. Alcatel-Lucent 9360 Small Cell Solution for the Enterprise 9
