WORK IN PROGRESS Corpora of the representation of speech in Caribbean Literature (English and Spanish). I have been working on this project which informs my PhD dissertation. Caribbean Short stories in English and Spanish have been analysed for instances of variation (phonetic, orthotypographical, lexical, grammatical, etc). I have developed a coding system for the types of variation found and have coded all instances of variation in the texts. The coded material can be loaded into a language software programme (WordSmith or, preferably, SIL Language Explorer) for statistical and other related types of analysis. These corpora can be used individually or can be used for comparative studies and translation. More texts and text types need to be added to generate a more complete view of the subject. 20 new stories were added during this academic year. Online Postgraduate Diploma in Translation Studies The possibility of an Online Postgraduate Diploma in Translation Studies is also being discussed with Dr. Ian Craig at Cave Hill. Exchange opportunities Talks with several universities (Universidad del Rosario, Universidad Autónoma de Bogotá and Universidad la Gran Colombia in Colombia) have started in order to establish possible collaboration and exchange opportunities for both students and staff.
