Introducing BT Unified Trading communication BT Unified Trading is launching trader voice into an important new phase of development. BT Unified Trading enables managed peer-to-peer SIPbased communication from trading floor to trading floor across BT s global, secure, intelligent network. This brings together trader voice services and trader voice platforms into one end-to-end integrated global offering. The solution supports multiple communication media and devices, from BT Netrix to mobiles and is ideal for supporting regionally distributed trading floors and improving BCP, agility, mobility, time to market, and access to emerging markets. BT Unified Trading is standards-based, delivering a non-proprietary, open architecture through softwarebased network components, compatible with your existing communications infrastructure. The key components that enable multimedia communication: BT Unified Trading voice service, providing trader voice and multimedia communication with your counterparties and clients across the BT Radianz cloud BT Unified Trading session manager controlling those communication sessions and conferences within your trading floor BT Unified Trading session manager can be distributed across a region as a regional cluster, providing a highly flexible solution for regional trading floors and business continuity. And regional clusters can be linked in to a global platform, providing for unprecented mobility and flexibility. Your session manager can even be hosted in BT s cloud, providing a highly effective hosted turret solution for small branch, and satellite floors as well as for business continuity sites. 4

BT Unified Trading voice service The BT Unified Trading voice service provides virtual IP private wires for trader voice and multimedia communication to your counterparties and clients across the BT Radianz cloud. It gives you access to the world s largest connected community of over 15,000 connected sites in over 60 countries. The BT Unified Trading voice service gives you the reliable and always on access to the markets of traditional point-topoint private wire voice circuits, but with far greater flexibility for supporting the distributed trading floors and remote data centres of a modern trading environment. The BT Unified Trading voice service is a native SIP/IP service in the core network with IP/SIP interfaces in to your trading floor. It also provides E1/T1 gateways to existing voice trading switches and TDM trader voice networks, ensuring you stay connected to your existing community and can migrate your current TDM trading floor infrastructures at a pace that makes sense for your business. Perhaps most importantly, BT Unified Trading means you now have the choice of a truly global supplier of mission critical trader voice services, giving you cost-effectiveness and diversity. The ability to instantly redirect virtual voice circuits to an alternative location gives you much improved business continuity and keeps you in the market. Not only are you able to use the integrated web portal to set-up disaster recovery plans to move subsets of voice circuits to alternative locations yourself, you can test those plans in the evenings and weekends with the click of a button. The web portal also gives you the ability to self-provision virtual IP circuits to your clients and counterparties to get you to market faster. And you benefit from online visibility of your complete inventory and online performance and usage reports. 5

BT Unified Trading portal The BT Unified Trading portal is a powerful web-enabled tool that puts the power of the BT Unified Trading voice service in your hands: Self-provisioning of voice circuits: Through the BT Unified Trading portal it is possible to view and manage on-line the inventory of IP private wires. Individuals are able to rapidly self-provision new voice circuits to counterparties. (Selfprovisioning of new circuits to the customer s counterparty is dependent upon the counterparty being on-net to the BT Unified Trading voice community). Organisations can create a master record of all configured circuits with import/export functionality Disaster Recovery plans: Disaster Recovery planning allows customers to create plans to re-direct some or all of the voice circuits from their primary site to their DR site without affecting the termination of the circuit at their counterparty site. New and DR circuits can be created and activated inside market hours without risk as the network device configuration does not change. Performance Monitoring: BT Unified Trading offers real-time access for monitoring performance and voice quality statistics of voice circuits. Reporting is fully integrated into the standard on-line reporting tools on the IP solution end-to-end and up to TDM gateway on hybrid solutions. 6

BT Unified Trading session manager The BT Unified Trading session manager replaces a proprietary hardware TDM voice trading switch. Traditionally all voice traversed the TDM switch and all turret and lines connected to it. The session manager has separate software-based call control, gateway and conferencing components, which are distributed through the network and controlled using the SIP protocol. 7

BT Unified Trading session manager BT Unified Trading session manager allows you to manage your multimedia communications and conferences within your trading floor. Moving from proprietary hardware switches to open softwarebased network components that communicate through SIP, you no longer have to route all voice traffic through a central switch, avoiding having to deploy physical equipment and support staff in every location, and hugely increasing flexibility, especially for regional trading floors. Running on open, industry-standard servers increases scalability but reduces footprint, saving data centre space and power. The highly scalable and resilient design means you can support your entire global trading floor operations through virtualised, distributed clusters. Not only does this give you significant improvements in business continuity, it supports trader mobility as never before. BT Unified Trading voice service benefits BT Unified Trading voice service is an innovative new service delivering virtual private wires to the financial services community for voice trading and providing an alternative solution to the legacy point to point TDM circuits widely used in the trader voice market today. Cost-Competitive Highly competitive pricing schemes offering a truly viable alternative to traditional point-to-point circuits from a global supplier. No Compromise trader voice The service is able to support thousands of high-quality simultaneous calls on a local, long distance and international basis. It has its own Quality of Service (QoS) model to ensure bandwidth is not contended and not subject to jitter or delay, which assures the voice quality and end-to-end integrity. Instant Self-Service DR BT Unified Trading allows you to create plans to re-direct some or all of the voice circuits from your primary site to your DR site without affecting the termination of the circuit at your counterparty site. You can create multiple DR plans with voice circuits that overlap between plans. DR plans can be all the voice circuits or a subset of voice circuits at a site. 9

BT Unified Trading voice service benefits Immediate Self-Provisioning Through the BT Unified Trading portal, you are able to rapidly self-provision new voice circuits to counterparties. The portal enables a much more effective management of communications so that traders can gain critical time to market advantage, avoiding the usual delays in setting up new customer private wires and allowing new revenues to be rapidly generated (self-provisioning of new circuits to your counterparty is dependent upon the counterparty being onnet to the BT Unified Trading voice community). The portal also allows you to view and manage their on-line inventory of IP private wires. Open Service BT Unified Trading voice service, built using open standards, is an open service. Not only is it integrated with the BT Unified Trading session manager and BT Netrix turrets via the SIP/ IP interface, it also supports connections into other systems via SIP/IP and existing voice trading switching equipment using E1/T1 interfaces, supporting all types of CAS circuits. The voice service can be delivered over the same BT Radianz infrastructure as data services, thereby offering an opportunity for customers to consolidate their services, reduce floor space and reduce real estate costs. Web Portal BT Unified Trading portal is a simple, intuitive web interface giving organisations the ability to maintain a fully up-to-date record of all trader voice private wires as well as available capacity to all connected sites. They can also instantaneously set-up new private lines with counterparties and records can be imported and exported as required. Performance Reporting BT Unified Trading offers real-time access for monitoring performance and voice quality statistics of voice circuits. Reporting is integrated into standard on-line reporting tools, and the service is underwritten with Service Level Agreements (SLAs) to fully assure performance. Fully Managed Service BT Unified Trading voice service is a fully managed service. Specialist BT Network Operations Centres provide roundthe-clock support service for help with queries and fault management. They are located in Europe, US and Asia and operate a follow-the-sun model. Interoperability The new platform allows full interoperability between SIP and existing TDM circuits, meaning that firms can integrate BT Unified Trading voice service with the previous generation of voice trading switch deployments and TDM networks, enabling controlled migration and leveraging existing investments. Firms are free to choose a migration path to suit their business needs and implementation plans. 10

Highly Resilient, highly scalable Powerful application clustering enables firms to expand capacity or increase redundancy by simply adding servers. Shared provisioning data and inter-working between clusters provides additional redundancy as well as access to lines and conferences throughout the regional infrastructure. Central control, local media Breaking down the barriers of physical and proprietary hardware switches, session manager enables gateways, conference and recording to be located with the users to localise voice as much as possible but still retain central control.
