ATHLETE ELIGIBILITY All athletes must comply with the provisions of the Olympic Charter currently in force and only those athletes who have complied with the Olympic Charter may participate in the Olympic Games. This includes Rule 41 of the Olympic Charter (Nationality of Competitors). D. QUALIFICATION PATHWAY QUALIFICATION PLACES The qualification events are listed in hierarchical order of qualification. MEN / WOMEN Number of Team Quota Qualification Events Places MEN 1 Host country 1 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup Champion USA 1 AfroBasket 2015 Champion 2 2015 FIBA America Championship Finalists 1 2015 FIBA Asia Championship Champion 2 EuroBasket 2015 Finalists 1 2015 FIBA Oceania Championship Champion 3 2016 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments (OQT) Participation in the 2016 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments 1. Eighteen (18) teams, representing all continents, are eligible to participate in the 2016 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament as follows: Continent Men Africa 3 Americas 3 Asia 3 Europe 5 Oceania 1 OQT Organisers 3 Total 18 2. The best placed teams of those not directly qualified for the Olympic Basketball Tournament from each FIBA Continental Championship will be invited to participate. 3. All teams participating at 2015 FIBA Continental Championships are eligible to host one of three (3) 2016 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments. However, OQT organisers will be selected in principle amongst already qualified teams or amongst the best non-qualified teams. 4. Should any of the already qualified teams be appointed as host, the best nonqualified team(s) from the respective continent will be invited to participate. 5. If any invited team(s) does not accept the invitation the next best team(s) of those not directly qualified from the same continent will be invited to participate unless otherwise decided by the FIBA Central Board. The winners of each of the three (3) tournaments will obtain a quota place for their NOC. 12 TOTAL Page 2/5

The following 12 teams representing all five (5) FIBA Zones are eligible to participate: Continent Women Africa 2 Americas 3 Asia 2 Europe 4 Oceania 1 Total 12 The five (5) best placed teams will obtain a quota place for their NOC. 12 TOTAL HOST COUNTRY PLACES The FIBA Central Board may decide to grant the automatic qualification place to the Men s and Women s teams of the Host Country. The FIBA Central Board will determine the precise criteria by the end of 2014 the latest. This decision will be made by 30 June 2015. E. CONFIRMATION PROCESS FOR QUOTA PLACES FIBA will publish the final results after each qualification event on the official website (www.fiba.com) and inform the qualified NOCs/NFs accordingly. The qualified NOCs/NFs from the FIBA World Cup 2014, from the FIBA Zone Championships 2015 and the Host Country (subject to the FIBA Central Board decision) must confirm their participation to the Olympic Games to FIBA by 30 November 2015. The NOCs/NFs eligible for the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments must confirm their participation to the Olympic Games to FIBA should they qualify at the same time as registering their team(s) for the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments, namely by 31 January 2016. F. REALLOCATION OF UNUSED QUOTA PLACES REALLOCATION OF UNUSED QUALIFICATION PLACES The qualified NOCs/NFs from the FIBA World Cup 2014, from the FIBA Zone Championships 2015 must confirm their participation to FIBA by 30 November 2015. Should there be no confirmation, FIBA will reallocate the places available by 31 December 2015. By reallocation of the above place(s) the FIBA Central Board will be guided by the need to have the strongest possible team(s) participating at the Olympic Games while still respecting that each Zone must be represented. The NOCs/NFs qualified for the Olympic Qualifying Tournaments, both women s and men s, must confirm their participation to the Olympic Games to FIBA should they qualify at the same time as registering their team(s) for the Olympic Qualifying Tournaments, namely by 31 January 2016. Should there be no confirmation, FIBA will reallocate the place(s) available for the Olympic Qualifying Tournaments by 15 February 2016 guided by the need to have the strongest possible team(s) participating at the Olympic Qualifying Tournaments while still respecting that each Zone must be represented. If, due to the exceptional circumstances the team(s) qualified for the Olympic Games from the OQT(s) will decline their quota, than the place(s) will be reallocated to the next highest ranked team team(s) from the respective OQT REALLOCATION OF UNUSED HOST COUNTRY PLACES In case the automatic qualification places are not granted to the Host Country by the FIBA Central Board, or in case the Host Country declines the automatic qualification places, FIBA will reallocate those place(s) to the next best placed team(s) from the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament(s). (i.e. the 4 th team from the Men s Tournament and 6 th team from the Women s Tournament). Page 4/5
