Application examples Intelligent ships and autonomous concepts enavigation and Resilient PNT General navigation Maritime operations 4
Intelligent ships and autonomous concepts (1/3) More functions on a ship are automated. This relies on multiple sensors with navigation sensors and GNSS as vital components. It also includes cyber security for civil applications and new GNSS antenna concepts for more robust tracking. Galileo/EGNOS added value : Improved security Transport optimization Reduction of freight cost Relevant E-GNSS services : OS authentication, Commercial Service, PRS, SAR 5
Intelligent ships and autonomous concepts (2/3) Action 1 : Support to R&D Short-term R&D on more robust solutions, antenna technology Action 2 : Establishment of user groups Short-term Applications must be developed in close cooperation with ship owners and crew Action 3 : Legal & Regulatory framework Long-term A legal framework for these kind of operations do not exist today 6
Intelligent ships and autonomous concepts (3/3) Action 4 : Support to international cooperation and global market access Long-term Intelligent ships and autonomous concepts are in particular of interest to intercontinental maritime traffic Expected impact / Benefit for Europe: Market growth 7
enavigation and Resilient PNT (1/2) The enavigation concept from IMO requires new solutions for both ships and shore infrastructure As part of this is resilient PNT to make the PNT solution more robust, and resistant to jamming and interference The provision and utilization of enavigation in Arctic waters should be ensured Galileo/EGNOS added value : Improved information exchange between ship-ship and ship-shore More robust positioning Use of Galileo/EGNOS in VDES Relevant E-GNSS services : OS, OS Authentication, Commercial Service, PRS, EGNOS 8
enavigation and Resilient PNT (2/2) Action 1 : Support to standardisation Short-term Support to standardization work in IALA and IMO (enavigation and VDES standards) Action 2 : Demonstrations and pilot project Short-term Demonstrations and pilot projects to support standardization enavigation testbed for Galileo Expected impact / Benefit for Europe: Market growth Technology improvement Industry competitiveness Quick win project and/or Spectacular case for showcasing: Demonstration of Arctic services could be a spectacular early showcase 9
General navigation (1/2) Support to IMO/RTCM standardisation activities towards maritime multiconstellation GNSS receiver Ensure use of EGNOS for general maritime navigation Search and Rescue Galileo/EGNOS added value : Ensure use of EGNOS and Galileo in general navigation and SAR operations Relevant E-GNSS services : OS, EGNOS, SAR 10
General navigation (2/2) Action 1 : Support to standardisation Short-term Support to standardization work in RTCM, IALA and IMO Action 2 : Support to R&D Short-term Adoption of EGNOS to maritime integrity concepts and operational needs Expected impact / Benefit for Europe: Adoption of EGNOS and Galileo in general maritime navigation 11
Maritime operations (1/2) This may include several applications such as: Aquaculture/Fish farming Offshore mining Fishery Cruise traffic in arctic waters Galileo/EGNOS added value : More efficient operations More advanced operations Relevant E-GNSS services : OS, OS Authentication, Commercial Service, PRS, EGNOS 12
Maritime operations (2/2) Action 1 : Support to R&D Short-term Dependent on application Action 2 : Establishment of user groups Short-term Applications must be developed in close cooperation with operators Action 3 : Establishment of partnership with market owners Mediumterm Dependent on application Action 4 :.. Dependent on application Expected impact / Benefit for Europe: European industry competitiveness 13
