Let s get started Before you set-up or make a change to how you re currently handling card payments, there s a few things to consider what payment options will you make available to your customers? how many sales will you make each day? how many terminals or point of sale areas does your business need? will your cash registers be integrated with EFTPOS? will you be accepting payments over the phone? will you be selling online? what security specifications and internal processes will help your business to reduce fraud? how will you handle transaction disputes and chargebacks? taking all this into account, what type of terminal or point of sale works best with your business? does membership to a group or industry association reduce the cost of handling card payments? We ll help you navigate through the wide range of payment solutions EFTPOS, credit card or both? You can set yourself up to receive EFTPOS cards only, or you can receive credit card purchases as well from the world s most widely used cards Visa and MasterCard. 4

EFTPOS processing An EFTPOS terminal allows you to accept debit cards, and reduces the risk of fraud with assured payments and 24/7 availability of service. It also improves cash flow for the business, with funds credited into your account the same day, and reduces transaction time and provides convenience to your customers. The benefits of accepting EFTPOS An EFTPOS terminal is a fast and convenient way for your business to accept payments from your customers. As a Westpac EFTPOS customer you will enjoy the following benefits connection to the Paymark EFTPOS network, NZ s most reliable network Help Desk support available 24 hours a day 7 days a week ability to accept all New Zealand issued debit cards. transactions processed quickly and efficiently which is essential for your business timely electronic settlement to your account, less trips to the bank access to Paymark s TransTrack to view your EFTPOS transaction information online. 6

Credit card processing Allows you to accept Scheme credit and debit cards. As a merchant you have the option of either processing these transactions through your terminal or processing them online. The benefits of accepting credit cards convenience and reliability increased sales your customers will have a greater choice as to how to pay greater acceptance lets you accept payments from both New Zealand and international cardholders reduced transaction time if using electronic payment terminals e.g. EFTPOS flexibility credit cards can be accepted either face-toface, by mail order/telephone order or across the internet. Channels for Credit Card Processing Card Present Allows you as a merchant to accept VISA and MasterCard credit / debit cards through your EFTPOS terminal. Below are some of the options that you have available when processing cards in this environment. Contactless Making a contactless payment is just as secure as making a payment by dipping or swiping a card, and you will find that some of your customers prefer it as the card never leaves their possession during the transaction. To make a purchase, the transaction must first be initiated on the terminal then the card needs to be held within 4cm of the contactless card reader on the terminal. There s no need to fear multiple payments, even if your customer unintentionally taps their card twice. As long as your customers have complied with their Credit Card Conditions of Use applicable to their card, if the unlikely happens and an unauthorised transaction does occur they are protected by MasterCard s Zero Liability policy or Visa s Zero Liability policy. 7

WCC Westpac Currency Choice, a payment solution empowered by Fintrax for foreign cardholder currency conversion. This dynamic point of sale service gives international customers the choice of paying for goods or services in either New Zealand Dollars or the currency of their VISA or MasterCard. As the currency of the card is determined dynamically Westpac Currency Choice is easy to use. Simply swipe/insert the card through an approved and enabled EFTPOS device. If the currency of the card is detected as being one of the currencies available, a pre-receipt is printed for you to present to your customer showing the total transaction price both in New Zealand Dollars and in the currency of the card. All the customer then needs to do is choose the currency they d like to pay in. It s that simple. Best of all, you could get a rebate on transactions where your customers opt to pay in the currency of the card. Settlement for Currency Choice transactions will be made in New Zealand Dollars. Integrated POS solutions If you ve got several sites or multiple terminals at one site, you can integrate your credit card processing with your point of sale software. This simplifies card acceptance, reducing staff errors, providing greater staff productivity and better customer service. There s only one system to reconcile and you can even manage it all from a single site your stores, office, for instance, or even your off-site head office. Card Not Present We have the following solutions available for your use in processing payments when the card and cardholder are not present: Payments for online sales To sell products via a website or over the phone, you ll need to set up an internet payment solution. This solution can be integrated to your website or be available for you to use when processing cards. Westpac offers a wide range of online products that enable you to pre-authorise transactions prior to delivering the goods or service to your customer. If you re handling recurring transactions, or transactions from various sources (i.e. phone, fax and mail orders as well as website), these products provide you with a means to consolidate these transactions for easier processing. On top of that, we also offer a comprehensive transactional reporting package, enabling you to monitor and manage your online, phone and mail order sales for fast reconciliation and settlement of funds. 8

When processing via your website we recommend you consider using internet authentication software such as Visa s Verified by Visa and MasterCard s SecureCode to confirm the cardholder is genuine for e-commerce transactions. As an extra security measure, our online payment solutions are enabled with CVC2/CVV2 Card Validation the 3-digit value printed on the signature panel of a MasterCard or Visa card. This can be used for mail order/phone order and e-commerce transactions. Mail and telephone orders These can provide greater convenience for your customer, and be very cost-effective for your business, but there s a higher risk of fraud. These transactions can either be processed via your terminal, manual schedules or via an online MOTO portal. We recommend that you process these sales electronically, and for that you ll need to confirm how this is done by your terminal/point of sale, or investigate an online payment solution for use by you or your head office staff. We can talk to you about how our online payment solution would handle these sales. Get Paid Whether you d like to take a credit card payment over the phone or email a payment request with a link to a secure online payments page, the Get Paid app is a safe and simple tool for your business, and includes a number of smart features: The Get Paid app enables your business to accept credit card payments on the go using a smartphone when your customers are not there in front of you.
